To improve the oxidation resistances of SiC coated C/C composites by a pack cementation (PC) method at high temperature and alleviate the siliconization erosion of molten silicon on C/C substrate during the preparation of SiC coating, a SiO2-SiC reticulated layer with SiC nanowires was pre-prepared on C/C composites through combined slurry painting and thermal treatment before the fabrication of SiC coating. The presence of porous SiO2-SiC layer with SiC nanowires was beneficial to fabricate a compact and homogeneous SiC coating resulting from synergistic effect of further reaction between SiO2 and pack powders and the reinforcement of SiC nanowires. Therefore, the results of thermal shock and isothermal oxidation tests showed that the mass loss of modified SiC coating was only 0.02 % after suffering 50-time thermal cycles between room temperature and 1773 K and decreased from 5.95 % to 1.08 % after static oxidation for 49.5 h in air at 1773 K. Moreover, due to the blocking effect of SiO2-SiC reticulated layer on siliconization erosion during PC, the flexural strength of SiC coated C/C composites with SiO2-SiC reticulated layer increased by 64.8 % compared with the untreated specimen.  相似文献

Carbon/carbon (C/C) composites have a wide application as the thermal structure materials because of their excellent properties at high temperatures. However, C/C composites are easily oxidized in oxygen-containing environment, which limits their potential applications to a great degree. Silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic coating fabricated via pack cementation (PC) was considered as an effective way to protect C/C composites against oxidation. But the mechanical properties of C/C composites were severely damaged due to chemical reaction between the molten silicon and C/C substrate during the preparation of SiC coating by PC. In order to eliminate the siliconization erosion, a pyrolytic carbon (PyC) coating was pre-prepared on C/C composites by the chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) prior to the fabrication of SiC coating. Due to the retardation effect of PyC coating on siliconization erosion, the flexural strength retention of the SiC coated C/C composites with PyC coating increased from 46.27 % to 107.95 % compared with the specimen without PyC coating. Furthermore, the presence of homogeneous and defect-free PyC coating was beneficial to fabricate a compact SiC coating without silicon phase by sufficiently reacting with molten silicon during PC. Therefore, the SiC coated C/C composites with PyC coating had better oxidation resistances under dynamic (between room temperature and 1773 K) and static conditions in air at different temperatures (1773?1973 K).  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistance of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites at high temperature, a SiC nanowire-toughened MoSi2-WSi2-SiC-Si multiphase coating was prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and pack cementation. The microstructure, mechanical properties and oxidation resistance of the coating were investigated. After the introduction of SiC nanowires, the elastic modulus, hardness, and fracture toughness of the MoSi2-WSi2-SiC-Si coating were increased by 25.48%, 4.09% and 45.03%, respectively. The weight loss of the coated sample with SiC nanowires was deceased from 4.83–2.08% after thermal shock between 1773 K and room temperature for 30 cycles and the weight loss is only 3.24% after isothermal oxidation at 1773 K in air for 82 h. The good oxidation resistance of the coating is mainly attributed to that SiC nanowires can effectively inhibit the propagation of cracks in the coating by the toughening mechanisms including bridging and pull-out.  相似文献

A hot-pressing reactive sintering (HPRS) technique was explored to prepare SiC coating for protecting carbon/carbon (C/C) composites against oxidation. The microstructures of the coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that, SiC coating obtained by HPRS has a dense and crack-free structure, and the coated C/C lost mass by only 1.84 wt.% after thermal cycles between 1773 K and room temperature for 15 times. The flexural strength of the HPRS-SiC coated C/C is up to 140 MPa, higher than those of the bare C/C and the C/C with a SiC coating by pressure-less reactive sintering. The fracture mode of the C/C composites changes from a pseudo-plastic behavior to a brittle one after being coated with a HPRS-SiC coating.  相似文献

In this study, SiC coating for C/C composites was prepared by pack cementation method at 1773 K, and MoSi2-SiOC-Si3N4 as an outer coating was successfully fabricated on the SiC coated samples by slurry method at 1273 K. The microstructure and phase composition of the coatings were analyzed. Results showed that a porous β-SiC inner coating and a crack-free MoSi2-SiOC-Si3N4 coating are formed. Effect of Si3N4 content on the oxidation resistance of the coated C/C composites at 1773 K in air was also investigated. The weight loss curves revealed that introducing the appropriate proportion of Si3N4 could improve the oxidation resistance of coating. The MoSi2-SiOC/SiC coated C/C sample had an accelerated weight loss after oxidation in air for 20 h. However, the coating containing 45% Si3N4 could protect C/C composition from oxidation for 100 h with a minute weight loss of 0.63%.  相似文献

In order to improve the oxidation protective ability of SiC-coated carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, a SiC–Si–ZrB2 multiphase ceramic coating was prepared on the surface of SiC-coated C/C composite by the process of pack cementation. The microstructures of the coating were characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The coating was found to be composed of SiC, Si and ZrB2. The oxidation resistance of the coated specimens was investigated at 1773 K. The results show that the SiC–Si–ZrB2 can protect C/C against oxidation at 1773 K for more than 386 h. The excellent oxidation protective performance is attributed to the integrity and stability of SiO2 glass improved by the formation of ZrSiO4 phase during oxidation. The coated specimens were given thermal shocks between 1773 K and room temperature for 20 times. After thermal shocks, the residual flexural strength of the coated C/C composites was decreased by 16.3%.  相似文献

A dense SiC coating toughened by SiC nanowires was prepared on carbon/carbon (C/C) composites using a two-step technique of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) to protect them against oxidation. The morphologies and crystalline structures of the coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. SiC nanowires played a role in decreasing the size of the cracks and improving the thermal shock resistance of the coating. The result of thermal shock between 1773 K and room temperature for 21 times indicates that, compared with the SiC coating without SiC nanowires, the average size of the cracks in the SiC coating toughened with SiC nanowires reduced from 5 ± 0.5 to 3 ± 0.5 μm. The weight loss of the SiC coated C/C composites decreased from 9.32 to 4.45% by the introduction of SiC nanowires.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation protective ability of SiC–MoSi2–ZrB2 coating for carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, pre-oxidation treatment and pack cementation were applied to construct a buffer interface layer between C/C substrate and SiC–MoSi2–ZrB2 coating. The tensile strength increased from 2.29 to 3.35 MPa after pre-oxidation treatment, and the mass loss was only 1.91% after oxidation at 1500 °C for 30 h. Compared with the coated C/C composites without pre-oxidation treatment, after 18 thermal cycles from 1500 °C and room temperature, the mass loss was decreased by 30.6%. The improvements of oxidation resistance and mechanical property are primarily attributed to the formation of inlaid interface between the C/C substrate and SiC–MoSi2–ZrB2 coating.  相似文献

In order to protect carbon/carbon (C/C) composites against oxidation, a Si–Mo–W coating was prepared on the surface of SiC-coated C/C composites by a simple reaction method. The microstructures of the as-received coating were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and energy dispersive spectroscopy analyses. The results show that the SiC/Si–Mo–W coating can protect C/C composites from oxidation in air at 1673 K for 220 h with a mass loss of 0.003%, and at 1773 K for 252 h with a mass gain of 1.56%. The excellent oxidation-resistant property of the SiC/Si–Mo–W coating at 1673–1773 K is attributed to the formation of SiO2 film on the coating surface. The mass loss of the coated C/C composites during the oxidation test at 1873 K in air primarily resulted from the reaction of C/C substrate and oxygen diffusing through the penetration cracks in the coating.  相似文献

To protect carbon/carbon composites (C/Cs) against oxidation, SiC coating toughened by SiC nanowires (SiCNWs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) hybrid nano-reinforcements was prepared on C/Cs by a two-step technique involving electrophoretic co-deposition and reactive melt infiltration. Co-deposited SiCNWs and CNTs with different shapes including straight-line, fusiform, curved and bamboo dispersed uniformly on the surface of C/Cs forming three-dimensional networks, which efficiently refined the SiC grains and meanwhile suppressed the cracking deflection of the coating during the fabrication process. The presence of SiCNWs and CNTs contributed to the formation of continuous glass layer during oxidation, while toughed the coating by introducing toughing methods such as bridging effect, crack deflection and nanowire pull out. Results showed that after oxidation for 45 h at 1773 K, the weight loss percentage of SiC coated specimen was 1.35%, while the weight gain percentage of the SiCNWs/CNTs reinforced SiC coating was 0.03052% due to the formation of continuous glass layer. After being exposed for 100 h, the weight loss percentage of the SiCNWs/CNTs reinforced SiC coating was 1.08%, which is relatively low.  相似文献

To protect carbon/carbon (C/C) composites against oxidation, a mullite coating was prepared on SiC precoated C/C composites by a hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition process. The phase composition, microstructure and oxidation resistance of the prepared mullite/SiC coatings were investigated. Results show that hydrothermal electrophoretic deposition is an effective route to achieve crack-free mullite coatings. The mullite/SiC coating displays excellent oxidation resistance and can protect C/C composites from oxidation at 1773 K for 322 h with a weight loss rate of only 4.89 × 10?4 g/cm2 h. The failure of the multi-layer coatings is considered to be caused by the volatilization of silicate glass layer, the formation of microholes and microcracks on the coating surface and the formation of penetrative holes between the SiC bonding layer and the C/C matrix at 1773 K. The corresponding high temperature oxidation activation energy of the coated C/C composites at 1573–1773 K is calculated to be 111.11 kJ/mol.  相似文献

Mullite coating, SiC whiskers toughened mullite coating (SiCw-mullite), and cristobalite aluminum phosphate (c-AlPO4) particle modified SiCw-mullite coating (c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite) were prepared on SiC coated C/SiC composites using a novel sol-gel method combined with air spraying. Results show that molten SiO2 formed by the oxidation of SiC whiskers and molten c-AlPO4 improved the bonding strength between mullite outer coating and SiC–C/SiC composites due to their high-temperature bonding properties. The bonding strength between mullite, SiCw-mullite, c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite outer coatings and SiC–C/SiC composites were 2.41, 4.31, and 7.38 MPa, respectively. After 48 thermal cycles between 1773 K and room temperature, the weight loss of mullite/SiC coating coated C/SiC composites was up to 11.61%, while the weight losses of SiCw-mullite/SiC and c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite/SiC coatings coated C/SiC composites were reduced to 7.40% and 5.12%, respectively. The addition of appropriate SiC whiskers can considerably improve the thermal shock resistance of mullite coating owing to their excellent mechanical properties at high temperature. In addition, c-AlPO4 particles can further improve the thermal shock resistance of SiCw-mullite coating due to their high-temperature bonding and sealing properties. No obvious micro-pores and cracks were observed on the surface of c-AlPO4-SiCw-mullite coating after 48 thermal cycles due to timely healing effect by formation of secondary mullite.  相似文献

Oxidation protective SiC nanowires‐reinforced SiC (SiCNWs‐SiC) coating was prepared on pack cementation (PC) SiC‐coated carbon/carbon (C/C) composites by a simple chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. This double‐layer SiCNWs‐SiC/PC SiC‐coating system on C/C composites not only has the advantages of SiC buffer layer but also has the toughening effects of SiCNWs. The microstructure and phase composition of the nanowires and the coatings were examined by SEM, TEM, and XRD. The single‐crystalline β‐SiC nanowires with twins and stacking faults were deposited uniformly and oriented randomly with diameter of 50‐200 nm and length ranging from several to tens micrometers. The dense SiCNWs‐SiC coating with some closed pores was obtained by SiC nanocrystals stacked tightly with each other on the surface of SiCNWs. After introducing SiCNWs in the coating system, the oxidation resistance is effectively improved. The oxidation test results showed that the weight loss of the SiCNWs‐SiC/PC SiC‐coated samples was 4.91% and 1.61% after oxidation at 1073 K for 8 hours and at 1473 K for 276 hours, respectively. No matter oxidation at which temperature, the SiCNWs‐SiC/PC SiC‐coating system has better anti‐oxidation property than the single‐layer PC SiC coating or the double‐layer CVD SiC/PC SiC coating without SiCNWs.  相似文献

In order to improve the oxidation resistance of C/C composites, a ZrB2–SiC/SiC oxidation protective dual-layer coating was prepared by a pack cementation combined with the slurry paste method. The phase and microstructure of the coating were characterised by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and energy-dispersive spectrometer analyses. The anti-oxidation and thermal shock resistance of the coating were also investigated. It was found that the ZrB2–SiC/SiC coating could effectively improve the oxidation resistance of the C/C composites. The weight loss of the coated samples was only 1.8% after oxidation at 1773?K for 18?h in air. The coating endured 20 thermal shock cycles between 1773?K and room temperature with only 4.6% weight loss.  相似文献

A multi-layer SiC nanowires reinforced SiC (SiCnws-SiC) coating was prepared in-situ on carbon/carbon (C/C) composites by three chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes. The microstructure and phase composition of the nanowires fabricated on the first-layer SiCnws-SiC coating and the coatings were examined by SEM, TEM, and XRD. The bamboo-like SiC nanowires with a 50?nm diameter and a length of several tens of micrometers are straight, randomly orientated and distributed like a net on the first-layer SiCnws-SiC coating. The growth direction is [111], and the growth mechanism is VS. The multi-layer SiCnws-SiC coating has three layers: the thickness of the first-layer is roughly 400?µm, and the outer two layers are about 200?µm. Each layer has a sandwich structure. The isothermal oxidation and erosion resistance of the multi-layer SiCnws-SiC coating were investigated in an electrical furnace and a high temperature wind tunnel. The results indicated that the weight loss of the multi-layer SiCnws-SiC coated C/C composites was only 1.8% after oxidation in static air at 1773?K for 361?h. Further, the coated sample failed due to fracture of the coating at the clamping position (i.e. 80?mm) after erosion at 1873?K for 130?h in the wind tunnel. The weight loss of the coated C/C composites occurred due to the formation of penetrating cracks in the coating during the oxidation thermal shock. The maximum bending moment and the larger clamping force caused the coating fracture and resulted in intense oxidation of the substrate and the failure of the specimen.  相似文献

Before the preparation of MoSi2–CrSi2–SiC–Si coating, blasting treatment of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, as a surface modification method, was conducted under oxyacetylene torch. MoSi2–CrSi2–SiC–Si coating was prepared on the treated C/C composites by pack cementation, where an interlock interface was formed between the coating and the C/C substrate. After blasting treatment, the thermal expansion coefficient mismatch between the coating and C/C substrate was alleviated efficiently, and the bonding strength of the coating was increased by 45.6% and reached 26.2 MPa. To simulate the real working condition, thermal cycling test was conducted under oxyacetylene torch from 1600 °C to room temperature to construct an environment of combustion gas erosion. Due to the improvement of bonding strength and the alleviation of thermal expansion coefficient mismatch between the coating and the C/C substrate, thermal cycling performance of MoSi2–CrSi2–SiC–Si coating was enhanced. After 25 thermal cycles, the mass loss of the coated C/C composites without blasting treatment was up to 2.4%, and the C/C substrate was partially exposed. In contrast, the mass loss of the coated C/C composites with blasting treatment was only 1.1%.  相似文献

To protect the carbon/carbon (C/C) composites from oxidation, an outer ultra‐high‐temperature ceramics (UHTCs) HfB2‐SiC coating was prepared on SiC‐coated C/C composites by in situ reaction method. The outer HfB2‐SiC coating consists of HfB2 and SiC, which are synchronously obtained. During the heat treatment process, the formed fluid silicon melt is responsible for the preparation of the outer HfB2‐SiC coating. The HfB2‐SiC/SiC coating could protect the C/C from oxidation for 265 h with only 0.41 × 10?2 g/cm2 weight loss at 1773 K in air. During the oxidation process, SiO2 glass and HfO2 are generated. SiO2 glass has a self‐sealing ability, which can cover the defects in the coating, thus blocking the penetration of oxygen and providing an effective protection for the C/C substrate. In addition, SiO2 glass can react with the formed HfO2, thus forming the HfSiO4 phase. Owing to the “pinning effect” of HfSiO4 phase, crack deflecting and crack termination are occurred, which will prevent the spread of cracks and effectively improve the oxidation resistance of the coating.  相似文献

New method to prepare Si-SiC coating on C/C composites by laser cladding (LC-Si-SiC) was established to improve the laser ablation resistance of the coating. Results showed that the LC-Si-SiC coating had lower roughness, better mechanical properties and superior laser-ablation resistance compared with the Si-SiC coating fabricated by the traditional coating preparation process: pack cementation (PC-Si-SiC). Due to the shorter heat treatment and less Si infiltration, the flexural strength of the LC-Si-SiC coated sample was 111.32 MPa, which was 144% higher than that of the PC-Si-SiC coated sample. Confirmed by finite element simulation, the LC-Si-SiC coating exhibited better laser-ablation resistance because of the “sweating cooling” mechanism. Under 23.89 MW?m?2 ablation for 7 s, the surface temperature of the LC-Si-SiC coated sample was 3046 K, which was 157 K lower than that of the PC-Si-SiC, causing the mass loss rate of the LC-Si-SiC coating (0.10%) was only 45.45% of the PC-Si-SiC coating.  相似文献

The cyclic ablation resistance of coated carbon/carbon (C/C) composites play crucial roles in their further engineering applications and development due to the cyclic ablation environment accompanied by rapid heating and cooling and high-speed heat flow scouring, which can reflect the performance stability of the coating. In this research, a (SiC/HfC)4/SiC (SHS) multi-layer coating was prepared on C/C composites. Compared with single layer (SiC and HfC coating) coated sample, the mass and linear ablation rate of SHS coated sample after three ablation cycles (60 s × 3) were only 0.64 mg/s and 0.53 μm/s, respectively. This is mainly because the introduction of many interfaces inhibits the propagation of cracks, the irregular cracks region only exists in the outer layer. Besides, the oxide layer with dense structure was formed near the C/C substrate, which could prevent oxygen from penetrating into the coating and continue to play a protective role.  相似文献

To improve the oxidation resistance of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites in a wide temperature range (1173–1773 K), a composite coating containing rich B2O3 glass was prepared on SiC-coated C/C composites by slurry dipping-densifying at low temperature. Borosilicate and SiO2 glasses acted as oxygen barriers at low and medium-high temperatures, respectively. Besides, Hf-oxides (HfO2, HfSiO4) ceramic particles improved the thermal stability of the glass and enhanced the crack resistance of glass layer. Therefore, the composite coating can effectively protect C/C composites against oxidation for 403 h at 1173 K, 723 h at 1473 K and 403 h at 1773 K with the mass gain of 3.77 g·m−2, 21.41 g·m−2 and 0.42 g·m−2, respectively. After 50 times thermal cycles between room temperature and 1773 K, the mass gain of the coated sample was 3.95 g·m−2 and the mass retention rate was up to 98.19 % during the thermos-gravimetric test from room temperature to 1773 K.  相似文献
