Commercial Y2O3 nanopowder was used to fabricate transparent Y2O3 ceramics by spark plasma sintering under the pressure of 100 MPa for 20 min with the heating rate of 100 °C/min. The microstructures, mechanical and optical properties of the Y2O3 ceramics sintered at different temperatures were investigated in detail. Densification occurred up to a sintering temperature of 1500 °C, and above 1500 °C, rapid grain growth and pore growth occurred. The highest relative density of 99.58% and the minimum average grain size of 0.58±0.11 µm were obtained at 1500 °C. The flexural strength, hardness and fracture toughness of the optimal spark plasma sintered Y2O3 ceramic were 122 MPa, 7.60 GPa and 2.06 MPa.m1/2, respectively. The Y2O3 ceramic sintered at 1500 °C had the in-line transmission of about 11–54% and 80% in the wavelength range of 400–800 nm and 3–5 µm, respectively.  相似文献

Bulk glasses containing HfO2 nano-crystallites of 20–50 nm were prepared by hot-pressing of HfO2–Al2O3–Y2O3 glass microspheres at 915 °C for 10 min. By annealing at temperatures below 1200 °C, the bulk glasses were converted into transparent glass-ceramics with HfO2 nano-crystallites of 100–200 nm, which showed the maximum transmittance of ~70% in the infrared region. An increase of annealing temperature (>1300 °C) resulted in opaque YAG/HfO2/Al2O3 eutectic ceramics. The eutectic ceramics contained fine Al2O3 crystallites and showed a high hardness of 19.8 GPa. The fracture toughness of the eutectic ceramics increased with increasing annealing temperature, and reached the maximum of 4.0 MPa m1/2.  相似文献

Transparent Nd:YAG ceramics were fabricated by solid-state reactive sintering of Y2O3, α-Al2O3 and Nd2O3 powders with TEOS and MgO as sintering aids. The powders were ball-milled, dried, sieved and calcined at different temperatures. Samples sintered at 1745 °C for 10 h were utilized to observe the microstructure and the optical transmission. It is found that heat treatments of the powder mixtures above 600 °C for 1 h are necessary to remove the carbon contamination but below 800 °C for 4 h can avoid strong aggregation of the powder. So there is a room for heat-treatment, between 600 °C and 800 °C that can obtain Nd:YAG ceramics with almost pore-free microstructures and high transparency. Highly transparent Nd:YAG ceramic with 84.3% in-line transmission at 1064 nm was fabricated by sintering the 800 °C-1 h-heat-treated powder mixture at 1745 °C for 50 h. Even at wavelength of 400 nm, the transmittance of the sample reached 82.9% and the optical scattering coefficient was as low as 0.71% cm−1.  相似文献

We developed a new method, i.e. microwave-induced combustion synthesis to produce highly sinterable Y2O3-doped CeO2 nanopowders. The process took only 15 min to yield Y2O3-doped CeO2 powders. We also investigated the conductivity of Y2O3-doped CeO2 ceramics. It was found Y2O3 concentration to have a large effect on the morphology, activation energy, ionic conductivity, and mechanical properties of Y2O3-doped CeO2 ceramics. The results revealed that the bulk densities of Y2O3-doped CeO2 ceramics sintered at 1420 °C for 5 h were all higher than 92% of the theoretical densities, and the maximum ionic conductivity, σ800 °C = 0.023 S/cm at 800 °C, the minimum activation energy, Ea = 0.954 eV determined in the temperature of 300–800 °C and the maximum fracture toughness, KIC = 1.825 ± 0.188 MPa m1/2 were found for 9 mol.% Y2O3-doped CeO2 specimen. The grain size of CeO2 decreases with increasing Y2O3 concentration. The fracture toughness was found to increase at increased Y2O3 concentration, because of the decrease of CeO2 grain size.  相似文献

In this work, Yb3+ was selected to replace the Y3+ in yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) in order to reduce its thermal conductivity under high temperature. A series of (Y1-xYbx)3Al5O12 (x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) ceramics were prepared by solid-state reaction at 1600 °C for 10 h. The microstructure, thermophysical properties and phase stability under high temperature were investigated. The results showed that all the Yb doped (Y1-xYbx)3Al5O12 ceramics were comprised of a single garnet-type Y3Al5O12 phase. The thermal conductivities of (Y1-xYbx)3Al5O12 ceramics firstly decreased and subsequently increased with Yb ions concentration rising from room temperature to 1200 °C. (Y0.7Yb0.3)3Al5O12 had the lowest thermal conductivity among investigated specimens, which was about 1.62 W m−1 K−1 at 1000 °C, around 30% lower than that of pure YAG (2.3 W m−1 K−1, 1000 °C). Yb had almost no effect on the coefficients of thermal expansion (CTEs) of (Y1-xYbx)3Al5O12 ceramics and the CTE was approximate 10.7×10−6 K−1 at 1200 °C. In addition, (Y0.7Yb0.3)3Al5O12 ceramic remained good phase stability when heating from room temperature to 1450 °C.  相似文献

We report on how the mechanical properties of sintered ceramics (i.e., a random mixture of equiaxed grains) with the Al2O3–Y2O3–ZrO2 eutectic composition compare with those of rapidly or directionally solidified Al2O3–Y2O3–ZrO2 eutectic melts. Ceramic microcomposites with the Al2O3–Y2O3–ZrO2 eutectic composition were fabricated by sintering in air at 1400–1500 °C, or hot pressing at 1300–1400 °C. Fully dense, three phase composites of Al2O3, Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2 and YAG with grain sizes ranging from 0.4 to 0.8 μm were obtained. The grain size of the three phases was controlled by the size of the initial powders. Annealing at 1500 °C for 96 h resulted in grain sizes of 0.5–1.8 μm. The finest scale microcomposite had a maximum hardness of 19 GPa and a four-point bend strength of 282 MPa. The fracture toughness, as determined by Vickers indentation and indented four-point bending methods, ranged from 2.3 to 4.7 MPa m1/2. Although strengths and fracture toughnesses are lower than some directionally or rapidly solidified eutectic composites, the intergranular fracture patterns in the sintered ceramic suggest that ceramic microcomposites have the potential to be tailored to yield stronger, tougher composites that may be comparable with melt solidified eutectic composites.  相似文献

High optical quality Y2O3 transparent ceramics with fine grain size were successfully fabricated by air pre-sintering at various temperature ranging from 1500 to 1600 °C combined with a post-hot-isostatic pressing (HIP) treatment using co-precipitated powders as the starting material. The fully dense Y2O3 transparent ceramic with highest transparency was obtained by pre-sintered at 1550 °C for 4 h in air and post-HIPed at 1600 °C for 3 h (the pressure of HIP 200 MPa), and it had fine microstructure and the average grain size was 0.96 μm. In addition, the in-line transmittance of the ceramic reached 81.7% at 1064 nm (1 mm thickness). By this approach, the transparent Y2O3 ceramics with fine grain size (<1.6 μm) were elaborated without any sintering aid.  相似文献

Transparent Y2O3 ceramics were fabricated by the solid-state reaction and vacuum sintering method using La2O3, ZrO2 and Al2O3 as sintering aids. The microstructure of the Y2O3 ceramics sintered from 1550 °C to 1800 °C for 8 h were analyzed by SEM. The sintering process of the Y2O3 transparent ceramics was optimized. The results showed that when the samples were sintered at 1800 °C for 8 h under vacuum, the average grain sizes of the ceramics were about 3.5 µm. Furthermore, the transmittance of Y2O3 ceramic sintered at 1800 °C for 8 h was 82.1% at the wavelength around the 1100 nm (1 mm thickness), which was close to its theoretical value. Moreover, the refractive index of the Y2O3 transparent ceramic in the temperature range from 30 °C to 400 °C were measured by the spectroscopic ellipsometry method.  相似文献

Hot modulus of rupture of Al2O3-spinel castables containing 5–15 wt% alumina-rich magnesia alumina spinel and 1·7 wt% CaO generally increases with increase in spinel content and temperature from 1000 to 1500°C. The magnitudes of hot modulus of rupture of castables containing 15 wt% spinel and 1·7 wt% CaO are 14·3 MPa at 1400°C and 15·6 MPa at 1500°C, while those of castables containing 20 wt% spinel and 1·7 wt% CaO are 12·5 MPa at 1400°C and 14·7 MPa at 1500°C. The former castables contained 15 wt% spinel of −75 μm size, while the latter contained 10 wt% spinel of +75 μm size and another 10 wt% spinel of −75 μm size. The bond linkage between the CA6 and spinel grains in the matrix is believed to cause both the spinel content and temperature dependence of hot strength of Al2O3-spinel castables, as well as fine grain spinel even in amount less than coarser grain spinel to be more effective for enhancing hot strength. The trend of the magnitude of thermal expansion under load (0·2 MPa) above 1500°C of the castables is not necessarily indicative of the magnitude of hot modulus of rupture at 1400 or 1500°C. ©  相似文献

Using commercial α-Al2O3, Y2O3 and Nd2O3 as raw materials, 0.8 at% Nd:YAG ceramics were fabricated by solid-state reaction and vacuum sintering technology, with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as sintering aid. The Nd:YAG ceramics were obtained by sintering at 1750 °C for 20 h under vacuum. The sintering process with different heating rate of the Nd:YAG ceramics have been studied during the present work. The grain sizes, pores and secondary phase amounts increased versus increasing the heating rate. The optical properties of the Nd:YAG ceramics were closely related to the microstructures of the specimens. The lasing performance of the Nd:YAG ceramics changed drastically with change in pores and secondary phase amounts.  相似文献

Y2O3 ceramics with good dielectric properties were prepared via co-precipitation reaction and subsequent sintering in a muffle furnace. The effects of Nd doping and sintering temperature on microwave dielectric properties were studied. With the increase in sintering temperature, the density, quality factor (Q×f), and dielectric constant (εr) values of pure Y2O3 ceramics increased to the maximum and then gradually decreased. The Y2O3 ceramics sintered at 1500 °C for 4 h showed optimal dielectric properties: εr=10.76, Q×f=82, 188 GHz, and τf=−54.4 ppm/°C. With the addition of Nd dopant, the Q×f values, εr, and τf of the Nd: Y2O3 ceramics apparently increased, but excessive amount degraded the quality factor. The Y2O3 ceramics with 2 at% Nd2O3 sintered at 1460 °C displayed good microwave dielectric properties: εr=10.4, Q×f=94, 149 GHz and τf=−46.2 ppm/°C.  相似文献

Tantalum diboride – boron suboxide ceramic composites were densified by spark plasma sintering at 1900 °C. Strength and fracture toughness of these bulk composites at room temperature were 490 MPa and 4 MPa m1/2, respectively. Flexural strength of B6O–TaB2 ceramics increased up to 800 °C and remained unchanged up to 1600 °C. At 1800 °C a rapid decrease in strength down to 300 MPa was observed and was accompanied by change in fracture mechanisms suggestive of decomposition of boron suboxide grains. Fracture toughness of B6O–TaB2 composites showed a minimum at 800 °C, suggestive a relaxation of thermal stresses generated from the mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion.Flexural strength at elevated temperatures for bulk TaB2 reference sample was also investigated. Results suggest that formation of composite provides additional strengthening/toughening as in all cases flexural strength and fracture toughness of the B6O–TaB2 ceramic composite was higher than that reported for B6O monoliths.  相似文献

Transparent magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4) ceramics were fabricated by hot-pressing of the MgO and α-Al2O3 powder mixture using LiF as a sintering aid. Effects of the LiF additive on densification, microstructure and optical properties of MgAl2O4 ceramics were systematically investigated. It has been found that the addition of LiF can effectively remove the porosity and increase the optical transparency of MgAl2O4 ceramics. For the spinel ceramics HP-ed at 1550 °C for 3 h with 1 wt% LiF addition, the average grain size is about 36 µm and the in-line transmittance exceeds 60% at the wavelength of 800 nm.  相似文献

We explored the thermal relaxation creep characteristics of nanostructured SiC ceramics by bend stress relaxation (BSR) method. The effects of the differences in microstructure and secondary phases by liquid phase sintering at 1800 or 1900 °C were especially discussed, based on microstructural evolutions during the creep. The creep was characterized by the BSR ratio (m) of ~0.80 up to 1200 °C, and the proportion of amorphous phase as a secondary phase was related to the creep resistance at 1300 °C. The microstructural evolutions during the creep consisted firstly in the re-distribution of amorphous phase, probably as a consequence of its viscous flow, and secondly in an extensive nucleation and growth of cavities. Furthermore, the former enhanced inter-diffusion of Al–Y among intergranular areas above the ternary eutectic temperature, which caused the significantly reduced creep resistance, and the latter reflected the crystalline YAG decomposition as another secondary phase near 1500 °C.  相似文献

The structures that developed as dense ZrB2–SiC ceramics were heated to 1500 °C in air were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction. The oxidation behavior was also studied using thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). Below 1200 °C, a protective B2O3-rich scale was observed on the surface. At 1200 °C and above, the B2O3 evaporated and the SiO2-rich scale that formed was stable up to at least 1500 °C. Beneath the surface, layers that were rich in zirconium oxide, and from which the silicon carbide had been partially depleted, were observed. The observations were consistent with the oxidation sequence recorded by thermal gravimetric analysis.  相似文献

Al2O3–SiC micro–nanocomposites are much more resistant materials than monolithic alumina regarding some mechanical properties. In order to study the possibility of obtaining creep resistant alumina/SiC micro–nanocomposites using inexpensive forming methods, alumina 1 and 5 vol% SiC materials were produced by slip-casting and pressureless sintering. Well-densified alumina–SiC pressureless sintered materials were obtained at 1700 °C for 2 h and attained 97–99% of the theoretical density. The microstructure, hardness and toughness were examined and 4-point flexure creep tests were performed at 1200 °C and 100 MPa in air. Compared with pure alumina materials, the creep resistance, toughness and hardness were enhanced drastically in materials containing 5 vol% of SiC.  相似文献

Effects of slow-cooling at high temperatures and annealing at intermediate temperatures on dielectric loss tangent of AlN ceramics were explored. Y2O3 was added as a sintering additive to AlN powders, and the powders were pressureless-sintered at 1900 °C for 2 h in a nitrogen flow atmosphere. In succession to the sintering, AlN samples were slow-cooled at a rate of 1 °C/min from 1900 to 1750 °C and/or annealed at 970 °C for 4 h. Al5Y3O12 was detected in the AlN ceramics obtained by the slow-cooling and AlYO3 was found in the ceramics cooled at a rate of 30 °C/min. AlN ceramics with a relative density of 0.986 were obtained by the slow-cooling method. On the other hand, very low tan δ values between 2.6 and 4.6 × 10−4 were obtained when the AlN ceramics were annealed at 970 °C for 4 h.  相似文献

Terbium doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Tb:YAG) transparent ceramics with different doping concentrations were fabricated by the solid-state reaction method using commercial Y2O3, α-Al2O3 and Tb4O7 powders as raw materials. Samples sintered at 1750 °C for 20 h were utilized to observe the optical transmittance, microstructure and fluorescence characteristics. It is found that all the Tb: YAG ceramics with different doping concentrations exhibit homogeneous structures with grain size distributions around 22–29 µm. For the 5 at% Tb:YAG transparent ceramics, the grain boundaries are clean with no secondary phases. The photoluminescence spectra show that Tb:YAG ceramics emit predominantly at 544 nm originated from the energy levels transition of 5D47F5 of Tb3+ ions, and the intensity of the emission peak reaches a maximum value when the Tb3+ concentration is 5 at%. The in-line transmittance of the 5 at% Tb:YAG ceramics is 73.4% at the wavelength of 544 nm, which needs to be further enhanced by optimizing the fabrication process. We think that Tb:YAG transparent ceramics may have potential applications in the high-power white LEDs.  相似文献

It is known that SiC powders can be densified at relatively low temperatures (1850–2000 °C) with some oxide additions. In this work the densification behavior, microstructure and mechanical properties (bending strength, fracture toughness, hardness) of SiC ceramics pressureless sintered with different additions chosen from oxide groups: Al2O3 + Y2O3, Al2O3 + Y2O3 + MgO, were investigated. It was found that oxide additives facilitate densification of sinters and significantly improve mechanical properties of SiC ceramics. The best activating oxide additions have been identified.  相似文献

The effects of slow-cooling and annealing conditions on dielectric loss, thermal conductivity and microstructure of AlN ceramics were investigated. Y2O3 from 0.5 to 1.25 mol% at 0.25% increments was added as a sintering additive to AlN powder and pressureless sintering was carried out at 1900 °C for 2 h in a nitrogen flowing atmosphere. To improve the properties, AlN samples were slow-cooled at a rate of 1 °C min−1 from 1900 to 1750 °C, subsequently cooled to 970 °C at a rate of 10 °C min−1 and then annealed at the same temperature for 4 h. AlN and YAG (5Al2O3/3Y2O3) were the only identified phases from XRD. AlN doped with 0.5 and 0.75 mol% Y2O3 had a low loss of <2.0 × 10−3 and a high thermal conductivity of >160 W m−1 °C−1.  相似文献
