Single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs), thin multiwalled carbon nanotubes (t-MWNTs) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were treated with H2SO4–HNO3 acid solution, under different chemical conditions. The acid-treated CNTs were dispersed in DI water and in poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) solution. Furthermore, the finely dispersed CNTs/PEDOT solutions were employed to a simple method of bar coating to obtain the transparent conductive films on the glass and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film. A sheet resistance of 247 Ω/sq and a transmission of 84.7% were obtained at a concentration of the acid-treated CNTs of 0.01 wt.%.  相似文献

A series of MgO supported catalysts having Co and Mo metals 5-40 wt.% in a ratio of 1:1 was prepared by impregnation method. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown over the catalysts by decomposition of C2H2 at 800 °C for 30 min. It was found that 5 and 10 wt.% Co-Mo/MgO catalysts produced single-wall nanotubes (SWNTs), whereas 20, 30 and 40 wt.% Co-Mo/MgO catalysts produced multi-wall nanotubes (MWNTs). The catalyst Mo/MgO was inactive in growing CNTs. In Co-Mo/MgO catalysts, however Mo generated a favorable environment to grow SWNTs. The growth of SWNTs was strongly dependent on the formation of small clusters of cobalt, which may generate from the decomposition of CoMoO4 species during the nanotube growth. MWNTs were produced over comparatively larger cobalt clusters generated from Co3O4 phase during the nanotube growth stage. The yields of SWNTs were about 6% and 27% over 5 and 10 wt.% Co-Mo/MgO catalysts, respectively. MWNTs yield (576%) was observed over 40 wt.% Co-Mo/MgO catalyst. Carbon yield (%) highly varied with acetylene concentration.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted tremendous attention in recent years because of their superb optical, electronic and mechanical properties. In this article, we aim to discuss CNT-induced polymer crystallization with the focus on the newly discovered nanohybrid shish-kebab (NHSK) structure, wherein the CNT serves as the shish and polymer crystals are the kebabs. Polyethylene (PE) and Nylon 6,6 were successfully decorated on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), and vapor grown carbon nanofibers (CNFs). The formation mechanism was attributed to “size-dependent soft epitaxy”. Polymer CNT nanocomposites (PCNs) containing PE, Nylon 6,6 were prepared using a solution blending technique. Both pristine CNTs and NHSKs were used as the precursors for the PCN preparation. The impact of CNTs on the polymer crystallization behavior will be discussed. Furthermore, four different polymers were decorated on CNTs using the physical vapor deposition method, forming a two-dimensional NHSK structure. These NHSKs represent a new type of nanoscale architecture. A variety of possible applications will be discussed.  相似文献

Thionine can be employed as a kind of useful functional molecule for the non-covalent functionalization of carbon nanotubes, as it shows a strong interaction with either SWNTs or MWNTs. Attachment of thionine molecules onto the sidewalls of carbon nanotubes would improve the solubility and lower the thermal stability of original carbon nanotubes. More importantly, it may functionalize the surface of carbon nanotubes with rich NH2 groups and therefore open up more opportunities for the surface chemistry of carbon nanotubes. It has been proved that through the modification of small thionine molecules, other kinds of species such as cytochrome C and TiO2 nanoparticles could be easily and selectively introduced onto the surface of carbon nanotubes. With this approach, SWNTs or MWNTs can be tailored with desired functional structures and properties.  相似文献

Abatract A high yield purification method was developed for multi- and single-walled carbon nanotubes, combining both the gas-phase purification using H2S and O2 mixture to remove impurity carbon particles and the acid treatment to remove metal particles. For the purification of MWNTs, the purification yield was about 54%, much higher than the yield previously reported. For the SWNTs, the combined liquid-gas purification process resulted in a high purity of >95% and a high yield of 20–50%, depending on the quality of raw material. Hydrogen sulfide played a role of enhancing the removal of carbon particles as well as suppressing the oxidation of carbon nanotubes. Overall, the purification method developed in this work is simple and quite effective for removing unwanted carbon and metal particles out of MWNTs and SWNTs.  相似文献

Nanocomposites containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as nanofillers and poly[ethylene‐co‐(acrylic acid)] (PEAA) or a polymer miscible mixture of PEAA and poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) (PEOx) as a matrix were prepared by the solution‐evaporation method with minimal damage to nanotubes. CNTs were prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) with ethanol as the source of carbon. Raman spectroscopy confirmed the presence of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) showed the formation of multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). Thermal and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were studied by analyzing samples containing different amounts of CNTs. The degree of crystallinity (Xc) of the PEAA‐based nanocomposite containing a smaller amount of CNTs was larger (Xc = 17.0%) than both the one of pure PEAA (Xc = 14.6 %) and PEAA‐based nanocomposite containing higher amounts of CNTs (Xc = 15.0%). The Young's modulus, ultimate stress, deformation at break, and toughness obtained from unidirectional tensile tests of the CNTs (1 wt%)‐PEAA nanocomposite were higher than both the one of pure PEAA and CNTs (5 wt%)‐PEAA nanocomposite. When a polymer mixture of PEAA/PEOx (containing 80 wt% of PEAA) was used as a matrix, a better mechanical response was also detected for nanocomposite containing 1 wt% CNTs. The nanocomposites containing small amounts of CNTs prepared here have potential to be used as coatings of metal or glass surfaces expecting a better mechanical performance than the one of pure matrix. Physisorption of hydrogen in single-walled carbon nanotubes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The interaction of hydrogen with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) was analysed. A SWNT sample was exposed to D2 or H2 at a pressure of 2 MPa for 1 h at 298 or 873 K. The desorption spectra were measured by thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). A main reversible desorption site was observed throughout the range 77 to 320 K. The activation energy of this peak at about 90 K was calculated assuming first-order desorption. This corresponds to physisorption on the surface of the SWNTs (19.2±1.2 kJ/mol). A desorption peak was also found for multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), and also for graphite samples. The hydrogen desorption spectrum showed other small shoulders, but only for the SWNT sample. They are assumed to originate from hydrogen physisorbed at sites on the internal surface of the tubes and on various other forms of carbon in the sample. The nanosized metallic particles (Co:Ni) used for nanotube growth did not play any role in the physisorption of molecular hydrogen on the SWNT sample. Therefore, it is concluded that the desorption of hydrogen from nanotubes is related to the specific surface area of the sample.  相似文献

The electronic properties of functionalised single and multi wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs and MWNTs, respectively) were investigated in depth by conventional electrochemical techniques in solution. Significant differences were observed between these two classes of carbon nanotubes. In fact, despite functionalisation strongly modified the electronic properties of carbon nanotubes, the enrichment of the density of states of MWNTs with respect to SWNTs, due to larger tube diameters, is still appreciated. In addition, the redox behaviour of the MWNTs shows a series of discrete single electron-transfer events (a coulomb staircase), which are undetected in the case of SWNTs. This quantised capacitance charging phenomena is analogous to that observed for other nanosystems which is attributed to the discrete charging of conducting core, coated with a dielectric film in an electrolyte solution.  相似文献

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composite fibers were spun from solutions in dimethyl acetamide (DMAc), using single wall (SWNTs), double wall (DWNTs), multi wall (MWNTs) carbon nanotubes, and vapor grown carbon nanofibers (VGCNFs). In each case, CNT content was 5 wt% with respect to the polymer. Structure, morphology, and properties of the composite fibers have been characterized using X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, tensile tests, dynamic mechanical tests, as well as thermal shrinkage. While all nanotubes contributed to property improvements, maximum increase in modulus (75%) and reduction in thermal shrinkage (up to 50%) was observed in the SWNT containing composites, and the maximum improvement in tensile strength (70%), strain to failure (110%), and work of rupture (230%) was observed in the MWNTs containing composites. PAN orientation is higher in the composite fiber (orientation factor up to 0.62) than in the control PAN fiber (orientation factor 0.52), and the PAN crystallite size in the composite fiber is up to 35% larger than in the control PAN (3.7 nm), while the overall PAN crystallinity diminished slightly. Nanotube orientation in the composite fibers is significantly higher (0.98 for SWNTs, 0.88 for DWNTs, and 0.91 for MWNTs and VGCNFs) than the PAN orientation (0.52-0.62). Improvement in low strain properties (modulus and shrinkage) was attributed to PAN interaction with the nanotube, while the improvement in high strain properties (tensile strength, elongation to break, and work of rupture) at least in part is attributed to the nanotube length. Property improvements have been analyzed in terms of nanotube surface area and orientation.  相似文献

The catalytic reaction concept was introduced in the growth of semiconductor micro- and nano-crystals. It was found that gallium nitride (GaN) micro- and nano-crystal structures, carbon nanaotubes, and silicon carbide (SiC) nanostructures could be efficiently grown using transition metal catalysts. The use of Ni catalyst enhanced the growth rate and crystallinity of GaN micro-crystals. At 1,100 ‡C, the growth rate of GaN micro-crystals grown in the presence of Ni catalyst was over nine times higher than that in the absence of the catalyst. The crystal quality of the GaN microcrystals was almost comparable to that of bulk GaN. Good quality GaN nanowires was also grown over Ni catalyst loaded on Si wafer. The nanowires had 6H hexagonal structure and their diameter was in the range of 30–50 nm. Multiwall nanotubes (MWNTs) were grown over 20Fe : 20Ni : 60Al2O3 catalyst. However, single wall nanotubes (SWNTs) were grown over 15Co : 15Mo : 70MgO catalyst. This result showed that the structure of CNTs could be controlled by the selection of catalysts. The average diameters of MWNTs and SWNTs were 20 and 10 nm, respectively. SiC nanorod crystals were prepared by the reaction of catalytically grown CNTs with tetrametysilane. Structural and optical properties of the catalytically grown semiconductor micro- and nano-crystals were characterized using various analytic techniques. Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were functionalized with pyrogallol. The functionalized MWNTs were well‐dispersed in the epoxy/curing agent/ethanol solution, as demonstrated by UV‐vis spectra and optical micrographs. Epoxy resin/MWNTs composites were prepared via solution mixing method. The cure behavior was characterized using differential scanning calorimetry. Pyrogallol‐functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) reacted with the epoxy through the mediation reaction of pyrogallol with the curing agent, leading to the interfacial bonding between the functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and the resin matrix. Due to the excellent dispersion and interfacial bonding, the mechanical strength and electrical conductivity of the epoxy resin/CNTs composites have been improved. POLYM. ENG. A novel method is developed for grafting multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) onto the surface of polyacrylonitrile‐based high strength (T300GB) carbon fiber. Functionalized MWNTs were well dispersed in the PVA solution and the carbon fiber was dip‐coated in this solution. After heat treatment of the coated carbon fiber under a nitrogen atmosphere, MWNTs with carboxyl groups were grafted onto the functionalized carbon fiber via chemical interaction. The resulting materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Raman spectrum and mechanical testing. FESEM observations revealed uniform coverage of carbon nanotubes on carbon fiber. The carbon fiber grafted with MWNTs improved the tensile strength by 12% with respect to the pristine carbon fiber. These results are supportive of good interfacial bonding between the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon fiber. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 2013  相似文献

Double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNTs) were synthesized in a large scale by a hydrogen arc discharge method using graphite powders or multi-walled carbon nanotubes/carbon nanofibers (MWNTs/CNFs) as carbon feedstock. The yield of DWNTs reached about 4 g/h. We found that the DWNT product synthesized from MWNTs/CNFs has higher purity than that from graphite powders. The results from high-resolution transmission electron microscopy observations revealed that more than 80% of the carbon nanotubes were DWNTs and the rest were single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), and their outer and inner diameters ranged from 1.75 to 4.87 nm and 1.06 to 3.93 nm, respectively. It was observed that the ends of the isolated DWNTs were uncapped and it was also found that cobalt as the dominant composition of the catalyst played a vital role in the growth of DWNTs by this method. In addition, the pore structures of the DWNTs obtained were investigated by cryogenic nitrogen adsorption measurements.  相似文献

Poly(o-methylaniline) (POTO), poly(o-methoxyaniline) (POAS), poly(2,5-dimethylaniline) (PDMA), poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) (PDOA), and nanocomposite based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) embedded in these conducting polymers, were synthesized by oxidative polymerization. We used the Langmuir-Schaefer (LS) technique to fabricate films at the air-water interface and performed the doping process on the undoped films by dipping the substrates in 1 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) aqueous solution. We recorded UV-vis spectra for both the undoped and doped forms and calculated the related band gaps by using the Tauc equation. Experimental data showed the substituents affected the final oxidation ratio of the polymer chains and the presence of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in the medium of reaction changed the properties in relation of the kind and number of substituents along the aromatic ring. The study of UV-vis spectra of the undoped nanocomposites and the calculated band gaps highlighted that the conducting polymer chains simply wrapped up around CNTs with no strong interaction. Both the kind and number of substituents along the aromatic rings strongly affected the protonation process, since their capability of “tuning” the formation of the polaronic state. The presence of CNTs in the polymer matrix showed no appreciable influence in the chemical properties of the doped nanocomposites with respect to the pure conducting polymers.  相似文献

A combined system of microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) and hot filament CVD (HFCVD) has been developed for the growth of various carbon nanotubes, where the source gas (methane) can be decomposed independently through microwave plasma and hot tungsten filament. It is found that microwave plasma provides more efficiently carbon sources for the growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). By the help of microwave plasma, long CNTs array with length of 0.3 mm and high-density single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have been grown by thermal CVD and hot filament CVD, respectively. Raman spectra of the SWNTs reveal high crystalline as well as narrow diameter distribution.  相似文献

The adsorption of several types of conducting polymers on carbon nanotubes is investigated by electrical transport measurements. We report the optoelectronic properties occurring in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) conjugated polymer, poly(3-octylthiophene), composites. Al/polymer-nanotube composite/indium-tin oxide diodes show photovoltaic behavior proposing that the main reason for this increase is the photoinduced electron transfer at the polymer/nanotube interface. Interesting results were obtained in the case of poly(o-anisidine) (POAS)-multi-walled nanotubes (MWNTs) composites where the increment of monolayers results in a significant improvement of the specific conductivity. POAS-coated MWNTs thin films demonstrated their potentiality as a new class of materials for inorganic vapors detection for environmental applications.  相似文献

Recent developments of non-covalent functionalization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) require a systematic understanding of the interaction between molecule and CNTs (CNT-molecular interaction); however, it has been difficult to evaluate the "net" interaction between the CNTs and molecules. We now use silica gel particles coated with the pristine single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in a monolayer fashion as the stationary phase of a HPLC column. The newly developed column (SWNT-column) worked as a powerful tool for ranking the interactions between the SWNTs and molecules with a high precision. We describe the binding affinity analysis of polyaromatic hydrocarbons onto the surfaces of SWNTs. The obtained ranking is determined in the order of benzene < naphthalene < biphenyl < fluorene < phenanthrene < anthracene ~ pyrene < triphenylene < p-terphenyl < tetraphene < tetracene.  相似文献

Two types of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), the network multi-walled nanotubes (MWNTs) and the dispersed MWNTs, were used for fabricating MWNTs/phenolic composites. The MWNTs were synthesized using the floating catalyst method through the chemical vapor deposition process. The effects of the MWNT content on the mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. Modified Halpin-Tsai equation was proposed to evaluate the Young’s modulus and tensile strength of the MWNTs/phenolic composites by adopting an orientation factor and an exponential shape factor in the equation. It is found that the results obtained from the modified Halpin-Tsai equation on tensile strengths and Young’s moduli fit successfully the experimental ones. The tensile fracture surfaces of MWNTs/phenolic composites were examined using field emission scanning electron microscope to study the failure morphologies of the MWNTs/phenolic composites.  相似文献

With multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) as reinforcement, a 12 vol% MWNTs/alumina (Al2O3) ceramic composite was obtained by hot pressing. A fracture toughness of 5.55±0.26 MPa·m1/2, 1.8 times that of pure Al2O3 ceramics, was achieved. Experimental results showed that the enveloping of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is effective in changing the hydrophobicity of CNTs to hydrophilicity and improving the dispersion of CNTs in aqueous solution. Enveloped with SDS, CNTs can be homogeneously mixed with Al2O3 at a microscopic level by heterocoagulation. This mixing method can obviously improve the chemical compatibility between CNTs and Al2O3, which is important for enhancement of interfacial strength between them.  相似文献

Ever since the discovery of carbon nanotubes, several strategies have been developed for the synthesis of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) as well as single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). We examine novel methods such as the precursor route and nebulized spray pyrolysis for the synthesis of MWNTs as well as junction nanotubes. Nanotubes of inorganic layered materials obtained by various ingenious methods are discussed. Nanowires of inorganic materials are synthesized not only by high temperature methods such as the carbon-assisted route, but also by soft chemical routes. We describe some of the soft chemical routes for the synthesis of inorganic nanotubes and nanowires. Some of the properties and applications of the nanotubes and nanowires are briefly described.  相似文献
