A concise synthesis of 1‐naphthols via cyclization of o‐iodoacetophenones and methyl ketones has been realized under very mild conditions. The cyclization process is initiated by a rare copper‐catalyzed arylation of simple methyl ketones with ortho‐iodoacetophenones.

Herein a practical and efficient protocol for preparing a range of aminoisoquinolines is reported. Various aminoisoquinolines were prepared in moderate to good yields from the corresponding 2‐methylbenzonitriles and benzonitriles upon treatment with potassium tert‐butoxide.

An N,N′‐dioxide/zinc bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide complex has been developed as an efficient catalyst for the highly enantioselective Diels–Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene with alkynones. Various 2‐acyl substituted norbornadiene derivatives were obtained in moderate to high yields (up to 99 %) with good enantiomeric excesses (up to 95 %).

Gold carbenes generated via 1,2‐migration of a propargylic ester group can be transferred over a tethered alkyne. The use of aromatic backbones leads after a 1,7‐carbene transfer to a benzyl‐stabilized carbene as intermediate. A 1,2‐shift of a methyl group delivers vinyl‐substituted β‐naphthol derivatives as the final products.

We have developed an electrophilic addition of allylic carbocations to 2‐cyclopropylidene‐2‐arylethanols constructing carbon‐carbon bonds with excellent regio‐ and stereoselectivities. The reaction affords 3‐oxabicyclo[3.2.0]heptanes in moderate to good yields via the electrophilic addition/ring‐opening/vinyl group shift/intramolecular cyclization sequence.

The three‐component reaction of α‐halomethyl oxime ethers, boronic acids and carbon monoxide at atmospheric pressure catalyzed by tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) gives efficiently unsymmetrical β‐alkoxyimino carbonyl compounds with total control of the regioselectivity, in high yield and atomic economy. Simple commercially available starting materials are used in this synthetic procedure. The three components assembly takes place preferentially versus the competing direct coupling or other possible side reactions. The mechanism of the transformation was investigated by NMR and intermediate palladium(II) complexes were detected.

A cationic gold(I)‐catalyzed decarboxylative etherification of propargyl carbonates to selectively produce propargyl ethers is reported. In the reaction the gold(I) catalyst shows a distinct σ‐Lewis acidity rather than the commonly observed π‐Lewis acidity, and thus catalyzes the decarboxylation of a variety of propargyl carbonates to give the corresponding propargyl ethers with high selectivity. This reaction represents a rare example of the tunable reactivity of cationic gold(I) complexes between σ‐Lewis acidity and π‐Lewis acidity.

Catalytic asymmetric reduction of N‐unsubstituted β‐enamino esters represents a major challenge for asymmetric catalysis. In this paper, the first organocatalytic system that could be used for the asymmetric hydrosilylation of N‐unsubstituted β‐enamino esters has been developed. Using Ntert‐butylsulfinyl‐L ‐proline‐derived amides and L ‐pipecolinic acid‐derived formamides as catalyst, a broad range of β‐aryl‐ and β‐alkyl‐substituted free β‐amino esters could be prepared with high yields and enantioselectivities. The practicality was illustrated by the gram‐scale asymmetric synthesis of ethyl (R)‐3‐amino‐3‐phenylpropanoate and isopropyl (S)‐3‐amino‐4‐(2,3,5‐trifluorophenyl)butanoate. The resulting product can be smoothly transformed to the FDA approved medicines dapoxetine and sitagliptin in a short synthetic route.

The iron(III) chloride‐multicatalyzed dioxygenation of enamides with TEMPO in the presence of alcohols has been developed. This multicomponent domino process affords efficient new strategies for the synthesis of α‐oxy‐N‐acylhemiaminals or α‐oxyimides in good to excellent yields under mild conditions.

Phosphonium salts are widely used in organic synthesis as the precursor of Wittig reagents but highly functionalized phosphonium salts are not readily available. We have developed a sequence of propargyl–allenyl isomerizations and electrocyclizations for the functionalization of phosphonium salts via simple starting materials, which may provide an efficient one‐pot synthesis of polysubstituted vinylbenzenes and naphthalenes.

A practical and novel process for the decarboxylative fluorination of β‐ketoacids in water in the presence of phase transfer catalyst has been developed, affording a series of α‐fluoroketones in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, a preliminary investigation for the catalytic asymmetric transformation was performed and a proposed mechanistic pathway for this catalytic process was proposed.
