Physically based simulation of human hair is a well studied and well known problem. But the “pure” physically based representation of hair (and other animation elements) is not the only concern of the animators, who want to “control” the creation and animation phases of the content. This paper describes a sketch-based tool, with which a user can both create hair models with different styling parameters and produce animations of these created hair models using physically and key frame-based techniques. The model creation and animation production tasks are all performed with direct manipulation techniques in real-time.  相似文献

Many researchers approach the problem of programming distributed memory machines by assuming a global shared name space. Thus the user views the distributed memory of the machine as though it were shared. A major issue that arises at this point is how to manage the memory. When a processor accesses data stored on another processor's memory, data must be moved between the two processors. Once these data are retrieved from another processor's memory, several interesting issues are raised. Where should these data be stored locally? What transformations must be performed to the code to guarantee that the nonlocal accesses reference the correct memory location? What optimizations can be performed to reduce the time spent in accessing the nonlocal data? In this paper we examine various data migration mechanisms that allow an explicit and controlled mapping of data to memory. We describe, experimentally evaluate, and model a set of schemes for storing and retrieving off-processor array elements. The schemes are all based on using hash tables for efficient access of nonlocal data. The three different techniques evaluated are the basic hashed cache, partial enumeration, and full enumeration, the details of which are described in the paper. In all three schemes, nonlocal data are stored in hash tables—the difference is in the amount of memory used by the schemes and the retrieval mechanisms for nonlocal data.  相似文献

Fault-based side channel cryptanalysis is very effective against symmetric and asymmetric encryption algorithms. Although straightforward hardware and time redundancy based concurrent error detection (CED) architectures can be used to thwart such attacks, they entail significant overhead (either area or performance). In this paper we investigate two systematic approaches to low-cost, low-latency CED for symmetric encryption algorithm RC6. The proposed techniques have been validated on FPGA implementations of RC6, one of the advanced encryption standard finalists.  相似文献

In addition to the classical heuristic algorithms of operations research, there have also been several approaches based on artificial neural networks for solving the traveling salesman problem. Their efficiency, however, decreases as the problem size (number of cities) increases. A technique to reduce the complexity of a large-scale traveling salesman problem (TSP) instance is to decompose or partition it into smaller subproblems. We introduce an all-neural decomposition heuristic that is based on a recent self-organizing map called KNIES, which has been successfully implemented for solving both the Euclidean traveling salesman problem and the Euclidean Hamiltonian path problem. Our solution for the Euclidean TSP proceeds by solving the Euclidean HPP for the subproblems, and then patching these solutions together. No such all-neural solution has ever been reported.  相似文献

The effect of categorizing returned products in remanufacturing   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
An increasing number of companies have been implementing comprehensive recycling and remanufacturing programs. These endeavors typically involve the operation of joint manufacturing and remanufacturing systems. One of the major challenges in managing such hybrid systems is the stochastic nature of product returns. In particular, there is significant variability in the condition of the returns. This paper presents an approach for assessing the impact of quality-based categorization of returned products. Through extensive numerical studies on a continuous-time Markov chain model, we show that incorporation of returned product quality in the remanufacturing and disposal decisions can lead to significant cost savings. We find that these savings are amplified as the return quality decreases, and as the return rate increases. We also show that prioritizing higher quality returns in remanufacturing is, in general, a better strategy.  相似文献

The two parameters of services output of water utilities are the per capita water available for consumption and the hours for which water is supplied per day. However, water utilities in India differ on the level of these outputs substantially. This paper uses the data for water utilities in 31 cities to analyse their performance in delivery of services. Using data envelopment analysis, a measure of technical efficiency for various utilities is calculated. The results indicate that water utilities can increase the delivery of water on a per capita basis and increase the hours of supply per day by about 18%. Nearly 37% of the increase in services could result from changing the scale of operation. This paper also discusses if the institutional framework within which these utilities operate has implications on their efficiency.  相似文献

Waste heat is generally dissipated from process water to atmospheric air in cooling towers. In the present study, a novel design is used to extract more amount of heat without any additional energy input by incorporating secondary ambient air in an induced draft wet cooling tower. In addition, more fresh air is induced in the tower from the rain zone, which increases the effectiveness at any value of the water to air flow rate (L/G ratio). Moreover, tower characteristics, range, and evaporation loss were also increased due to the novel design. It is noteworthy that secondary fresh air increases effectiveness, heat rejection, and tower characteristics by 10.12%, 19.65%, and 26.11%, respectively, and decreases approach by 16.32% at 0.55 L/G ratio, 44°C inlet water temperature, 29.7°C dry bulb temperature, and 18.4°C inlet air wet bulb temperature.  相似文献

The increase in negative effects of fossil fuels on the environment has forced many countries, especially the developed ones, to use renewable energy sources. Currently the fastest developing energy source technology is wind energy. Because wind energy is renewable and environment friendly, systems that convert wind energy to electricity have developed rapidly. Wind energy is an alternative clear energy source compared to the fossil fuels that pollute the lower layer of atmosphere. Compatibility of acidic (H), Na, and Zn neutralized sulfonated polystyrene ionomer blends with Poly(2,6-dimethyl- 1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) and Poly(2,6-dichloro- 1,4-phenylene oxide) (PDCIPO) was investigated by Dilute Solution Viscometry (DSV) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The intrinsic viscosities of the blends, are measured in suitable solvents. The degree of compatibility of the blends is characterized by Δb parameter. According to the results, PPO is completely miscible, except for Na-neutralized 1.7 mol% sulfonated polystyrene (Na1.7SPS) which is completely immiscible with PPO and PDClPO. PDClPO is completely miscible with Zn-neutralized sulfonated polystyrene (Zn4.8SPS) and partially miscible with acid sulfonated polystyrene (4.8SPS).
