A new microcalorimeter with eight parallel channels using robust, low cost sensors for characterization of coatings and adhesives is described and first experiments on coatings and adhesives are presented. The calorimetric sensors are based on thin glass plates (20 mm × 20 mm, thickness 150 μm) with heater and thermocouple sputtered on the surfaces (calorimetric active area of about 9 mm2). The setup allows heating and cooling experiments as well as isothermal measurements in the temperature-modulated mode with up to eight sensors in parallel. The measured quantities are the real (C′p) and imaginary part (C″p) of the complex heat capacity (), the related absolute value of the heat capacity () and the heat flow . An industrial computer (NI PXI system) with specific software for calibration and data recording controls the electronic components. Sensors can be embedded in a temperature controlled oven (heating and cooling by Peltier elements) or alternatively in a climatic cabinet with controlled temperature and humidity.
The method has been applied successfully to monitoring of film formation of aqueous polymer dispersions (styrene-acrylate copolymer) and curing of coatings. 相似文献

This paper investigates electrostatic voltage distributions around a surface-breaking flaw due to an injected current of known
strength. The direct 3-D solution of the voltage behavior over the flawed surface is obtained numerically by the use of a
boundary integral formulation. A novel iteration method is applied to solve the resulting electrostatic integral equation
for the unknown surface voltage distribution. In addition to investigating the sensitivity of different flaw sizes to the
observed surface voltage distribution, important issues such as suitable probe spacing and current flow orientation are studied.
For sufficiently small surface-breaking flaws, a simple image source model is developed to evaluate the voltage response of
hairline cracks. The model is tested by comparing it with the developed numerical solution. Experiments aimed at establishing

Finite-time stability in dynamical systems theory involves systems whose trajectories converge to an equilibrium state in finite time. In this paper, we use the notion of finite-time stability to apply it to the problem of coordinated motion in multiagent systems. Specifically, we consider a group of agents described by fully actuated Euler–Lagrange dynamics along with a leader agent with an objective to reach and maintain a desired formation characterized by steady-state distances between the neighboring agents in finite time. We use graph theoretic notions to characterize communication topology in the network determined by the information flow directions and captured by the graph Laplacian matrix. Furthermore, using sliding mode control approach, we design decentralized control inputs for individual agents that use only data from the neighboring agents which directly communicate their state information to the current agent in order to drive the current agent to the desired steady state. Sliding mode control is known to drive the system states to the sliding surface in finite time. The key feature of our approach is in the design of non-smooth sliding surfaces such that, while on the sliding surface, the error states converge to the origin in finite time, thus ensuring finite-time coordination among the agents in the network. In addition, we discuss the case of switching communication topologies in multiagent systems. Finally, we show the efficacy of our theoretical results using an example of a multiagent system involving planar double integrator agents. 相似文献

Numerical methods for elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs) within both continuous and hybridized discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) frameworks share the same general structure: local (elemental) matrix generation followed by a global linear system assembly and solve. The lack of inter-element communication and easily parallelizable nature of the local matrix generation stage coupled with the parallelization techniques developed for the linear system solvers make a numerical scheme for elliptic PDEs a good candidate for implementation on streaming architectures such as modern graphical processing units (GPUs). We propose an algorithmic pipeline for mapping an elliptic finite element method to the GPU and perform a case study for a particular method within the HDG framework. This study provides comparison between CPU and GPU implementations of the method as well as highlights certain performance-crucial implementation details. The choice of the HDG method for the case study was dictated by the computationally-heavy local matrix generation stage as well as the reduced trace-based communication pattern, which together make the method amenable to the fine-grained parallelism of GPUs. We demonstrate that the HDG method is well-suited for GPU implementation, obtaining total speedups on the order of 30–35 times over a serial CPU implementation for moderately sized problems. 相似文献

This article compares the properties of different non-linear Kalman filters: the well-known Unscented Kalman filter (UKF), the central difference Kalman filter (CDKF) and the new Quadratic Kalman filter (QKF). A small financial DSGE model is repeatedly estimated by several quasi-likelihood methods with different filters for data generated by the model. Errors in parameters estimation are a measure of the filters’ quality. The result shows that the QKF has a reasonable advantage in terms of quality over the CDKF and the UKF, albeit with some loss in speed. 相似文献

Results of research on microjets escaping into an ambient space from nozzles with diameters of 341–10.4 μm are described. A special Pitot microtube is used for studying the structure of supersonic microjets. The main feature of this microtube is a small diameter of the intake hole (12 μm). The main parameters of supersonic underexpanded microjets are identified, including the size of shock cells and the supersonic core length of the microjet. The results show a significant increase in the supersonic core length of microjets compared to macrojets. The Reynolds numbers of the laminar–turbulent transition in microjets are found to be in the range of 1,100–2,100. In addition, a classification of supersonic underexpanded axisymmetric microjets escaping into the ambient space is proposed. 相似文献

Network-wide broadcast (simply broadcast) is a frequently used operation in wireless ad hoc networks (WANETs). One promising practical approach for energy-efficient broadcast is to use localized algorithms to minimize the number of nodes involved in the propagation of the broadcast messages. In this context, the minimum forwarding set problem (MFSP) (also known as multipoint relay (MPR) problem) has received a considerable attention in the research community. Even though the general form of the problem is shown to be NP-complete, the complexity of the problem has not been known under the practical application context of ad hoc networks. In this paper, we present a polynomial time algorithm to solve the MFSP for wireless network under unit disk coverage model. We prove the existence of some geometrical properties for the problem and then propose a polynomial time algorithm to build an optimal solution based on these properties. To the best of our knowledge, our algorithm is the first polynomial time solution to the MFSP under the unit disk coverage model. We believe that the work presented in this paper will have an impact on the design and development of new algorithms for several wireless network applications including energy-efficient multicast, broadcast, and topology control protocols for WANETs and sensor networks. 相似文献

One of the more well-studied problems in data mining is the search for association rules in market basket data. Association rules are intended to identify patterns of the type: A customer purchasing item A often also purchases item B. Motivated partly by the goal of generalizing beyond market basket data and partly by the goal of ironing out some problems in the definition of association rules, we develop the notion of dependence rules that identify statistical dependence in both the presence and absence of items in itemsets. We propose measuring significance of dependence via the chi-squared test for independence from classical statistics. This leads to a measure that is upward-closed in the itemset lattice, enabling us to reduce the mining problem to the search for a border between dependent and independent itemsets in the lattice. We develop pruning strategies based on the closure property and thereby devise an efficient algorithm for discovering dependence rules. We demonstrate our algorithm's effectiveness by testing it on census data, text data (wherein we seek term dependence), and synthetic data. 相似文献

We consider interconnections of locally input-to-state stable (LISS) systems. The class of LISS systems is quite large, in particular it contains input-to-state stable (ISS) and integral input-to-state stable (iISS) systems.Local small-gain conditions both for LISS trajectory and Lyapunov formulations guaranteeing LISS of the composite system are provided in this paper. Notably, estimates for the resulting stability region of the composite system are also given. This in particular provides an advantage over the linearization approach, as will be discussed. 相似文献
