O‐aminophenol was reacted with glutraldehyde to obtain Schiff base, which was then reacted with formaldehyde in slight acidic medium to generate phenolic groups. Now the substituted Schiff base was reacted with the transition metal acetates of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) to get polymeric metal complexes. Their structures have been elucidated on the basis of elemental analyses, 1H NMR spectra, 13C NMR spectra, magnetic measurements, thermogravimetric analyses, electronic spectra, and infrared spectra. The results are in accordance with an octahedral environment around the central metal ion. The polychelates of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) are paramagnetic while Zn(II) polychelate was found to be diamagnetic. The synthesized Schiff base acted as a uninegative bidentate ligand and bonding occurs through the hydroxyl oxygen and nitrogen atoms. The thermal behavior of these coordinating polymers was studied by TGA in nitrogen atmosphere up to the temperature range of 800°C. All the synthesized polychelates were also screened for their biocidal activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis (bacteria), Candida albicans, and Muller species (yeast) by using agar well diffusion method. All the metal polychelates show promising antimicrobial activities. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 124:3971–3979, 2012 相似文献

Polyethylene‐g‐polyacrylamide membranes were prepared by graft polymerization of acrylamide onto polyethylene films using a preirradiation method. The ion‐exchange membranes were obtained by the hydrolysis of grafted films so as to transform amide groups into carboxyl groups. The fraction of amide groups transformed into carboxyl groups was limited to ~0.5. The characterization and thermal behavior of membranes with different degrees of grafting were evaluated by FTIR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements. The heat of fusion and the crystallinity of polyethylene decreased considerably in the hydrolyzed membranes depending on the degree of grafting. It was found that the grafting of acrylamide led to the reduction in crystallinity due to disruption of the crystallites (crystal defects) and dilution of the inherent crystallinity (dilution effect). The contribution of the hydrolysis step to the crystallinity decrease was negligible. The thermal stability of the membranes as obtained from TGA showed considerable enhancement after hydrolysis. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 90: 149–154, 2003 相似文献

The paper proposes a new approach to find semantic meanings in visual object class structure, in line with the Gestalt laws
of proximity. Micro level semantic structures are formed by line segments (arcs also approximated into line segments based
on pixel deviation threshold) which are in close proximity. These structures are hierarchically combined till a semantic label
can be assigned. The algorithm extracts semantic groups, their inter-relations and represents these using a graph. Invariant
geometrical properties of the groups and relations are used as vertex and edge labels. A graph model captures the inter class
variability by analyzing the repetitiveness of structures and relations and uses it as a weighting factor for classification.
The algorithm has been tested on a standard benchmark database and compared with existing approaches. 相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) sutures are prepared by the simultaneous radiation grafting of 1‐vinylimidazole (VIm) onto PP monofilament sutures. The tenacity slightly decreases whereas the elongation increases with the increase in the degree of grafting. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the stability of the sutures is enhanced by the grafting process. The grafted sutures have reasonably good water uptake. They are subsequently immobilized with an antimicrobial drug, ciprofloxacin. The modified suture releases the drug over a period of 4–5 days. The antimicrobial activity of the modified suture is determined against Esherichia coli by the zone of inhibition technique. A clear zone of inhibition is observed around the drug‐containing suture. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 3534–3538, 2007 相似文献

The grafting of acrylic acid onto electron beam‐irradiated polypropylene was carried out using preirradiation method. The stability of peroxy radicals was investigated by electron spin resonance. It was found that the decay of peroxy radicals is much faster at 70°C than at 40°C and ambient temperature. The grafting has been observed to be strongly dependent on the monomer dilution in the reaction medium. The grafting was ascertained by attenuated total reflectance (ATR). The distribution of grafts across the samples was monitored by infrared microscopy. It was found that the graft management is considerably influenced by composition of the grafting medium. The grafting involving pure monomer leads to the surface enrichment with the polyacrylic acid chains. The samples grafted in pure monomer led to much lower contact angles as compared to the diluted monomer solution. The swelling of the grafted samples also showed a trend that was governed by the graft management. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100: 546–553, 2006 相似文献

We have successfully synthesized large-scale aggregative flowerlike Zn1-xCo(x)O (0.0 < or = x < or = 0.07) nanostructures, consisting of many branches of nanorods at different orientations with diameter within 100-150 nm (tip diameter approximately 50 nm) and length of approximately 1 microm. The rods were prepared using Zinc nitrate, cobalt nitrate and KOH in 180 Watt microwave radiation for short time interval. The synthesized nanorods were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), field emission transmission electron microscopy (FETEM) and DC magnetization measurements. XRD and TEM results indicate that the novel flowerlike nanostructures are hexagonal with wurtzite structure and Co ions were successfully incorporated into the lattice position of Zn ions in ZnO matrix. The selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern reveals that the nanorods are single crystal in nature and preferentially grow along [0 0 1] direction. Magnetic studies show that Zn1-xCo(x)O nanorods exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism. This novel nanostructure could be a promising candidate for a variety of future spintronic applications. 相似文献

Samarium doped cerium oxide films were grown on the glass substrate using e-beam deposition technique and then characterized using different techniques: X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Raman spectroscopy and UV-visible spectroscopy measurements. XRD analysis shows that all the films have cubic structure and the crystallite size decreases from 18 to 13 nm as the samarium (Sm) concentration increases. The FE-SEM images indicate that all the films have columnar growth. UV-visible measurements reflect that the films have high transparency (>80%) in the visible region. From the Raman spectra, we have observed two peaks at 466 and 565 cm−1. The peak at 466 cm−1 is assigned to the F2g mode of cerium oxide (CeO2) whereas the peak at 565 cm−1 is due to the presence of the oxygen vacancies. The increase in the intensity of the peak at 565 cm−1 indicates that the oxygen vacancy increases with Sm doping. 相似文献

A convenient and scalable technique for the synthesis of rutile titanium dioxide (TiO2) nano-rods was presented by using bulk TiO2 powder, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and distilled water as raw materials. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) studies indicate that the prepared sample is crystalline and free from any impurities, however, it has no distinct shape and possesses a huge degree of agglomeration, and the average crystal size is around 40 nm. After annealing the sample at 600 °C for 2 h, it is observed through FESEM that nano-rods are formed. And XRD analysis shows that the nano-rods are single crystalline with distinct and smooth surfaces in different sizes with average length of about 1 µm and diameter of about 80 nm. Further UV-visible spectroscopy and Raman studies were conducted for the prepared sample and the band gap of the final product is found to be 3.40 eV. 相似文献
