Extruded oilseeds were fed to 24 dairy cows to study the influence on the conjugated linoleic acid content of milk and cheese. Cows were fed one of three diets that contained forage and grain in a ratio of 47:53. A control diet containing 13.5% soybean meal was compared with diets containing 12% full fat extruded soybeans or 12% full fat extruded cottonseed. The control, extruded soybean, and extruded cottonseed diets contained 2.73, 4.89, and 4.56% fatty acids, respectively. Measurements were made during the last 5 wk of the 8-wk experiment. The DM intakes and 3.5% fat-corrected milk yields were higher for cows fed the extruded soybean and extruded cottonseed diets than for cows fed the control diet. A tendency for lower fat and protein contents in the milk of cows fed the extruded soybean and extruded cottonseed diets was detected. Most of the C18 fatty acids were increased in the milk and cheese when extruded soybeans and cottonseeds were fed. The conjugated linoleic acid content in milk and cheese increased a mean of 109% when full fat extruded soybeans were fed and increased 77% when cottonseeds were fed compared with the conjugated linoleic acid content when the control diet was fed. Processing the milk into cheese did not alter the conjugated linoleic acid content. The conjugated linoleic acid content of milk and cheese can be increased by the inclusion of full fat extruded soybeans and full fat extruded cottonseeds in the diets of dairy cows.  相似文献

The impact of molten tin droplets (0.6 mm diameter) on solid surfaces was observed for a range of impact velocities (10–30 m/s), substrate temperatures (25–200 °C) and substrate materials (stainless steel, aluminum and glass). The substrate was mounted on the rim of a rotating flywheel and the collision of single droplets with the moving substrate was photographed. Droplet impact Reynolds number ranged from 2.2 × 104 to 6.5 × 104 and Weber number from 8.0 × 102 to 7.2 × 103. On a hot surface there was no splashing and droplets spread to form disk-like splats with smooth edges. Solidification around the edges of droplets spreading on cold surfaces created a solid rim that obstructed flow and triggered splashing. An analytical model was developed to predict the transition temperature at which splashing disappeared by assuming that the thickness of the solid layer had to equal that of the splat in the time the droplet spread to its maximum extent in order to obstruct liquid flow. The model predicted the transition temperature for aluminum and stainless steel surfaces, assuming that thermal contact resistance between the droplet and substrate varied between 10−6 and 10−7 m2 K/W. The model also predicted that tin droplets would not splash on glass surfaces maintained at or above room temperature, and this was confirmed by experiments.  相似文献

A polymer‐supported (PS) phase transfer catalyst, polyethylene‐g‐quaternary ammonium salt (PE‐g‐QN+), is prepared through a three‐step graft copolymerization of maleic anhydride (MAn) onto polyethylene (PE) by photochemical method using 1% benzophenone (Bz) as photosensitizer. Post grafted acid hydrolysis of polyethylene‐g‐maleic anhydride (PE‐g‐MAn) results in the preparation of PE‐g‐succinic acid which on further treatment with tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) under basic conditions in tetrahydrofuran (THF) gives PE‐g‐QN+. Optimum conditions pertaining to maximum percentage of grafting have been evaluated as a function of concentration of maleic anhydride, amount of photosensitizer, and time of reaction. Maximum percentage of grafting (25%) was obtained using 3.57 mol of MAn and 0.5 mL of 1% Bz in 120 min. The PE and graft copolymers, PE‐g‐MAn, and PE‐g‐QN+ were characterized by FTIR Spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The ionic nature of quaternary ammonium salt, PE‐g‐QN+ has also been confirmed by conductance measurements. PE‐g‐QN+ reagent have been used successfully for polymerization, amidation, and esterification reactions. The products obtained were characterized by FTIR and H1NMR spectral methods. The reagent was reused for the further reactions and it was observed that the polymeric reagent polymerize, amidate, and esterificate the compounds successfully but with little lower product yield. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In an attempt to develop an alternative to petro‐based polymers, we graft‐copolymerized cellulose isolated from the needles of Pinus roxburghii with styrene in a limited aqueous medium in air by simultaneous irradiation using gamma rays as the initiator. The optimum conditions for obtaining maximum grafting were determined as a function of monomer concentration, total dose of irradiation, and amount of water. Maximum percentage of grafting (Pg; 79.9) was obtained at a total dose of 1.152 × 104 Gy with 1.325 × 10?4 mol of styrene. The effect of methanol, LiNO3, Cu(NO3)2, Mohr's salt, H2SO4, HNO3, and AcOH on Pg was studied. All the additives were found to decrease graft yield, contrary to some reported studies. Total percentage conversion and rates of polymerization, grafting, and homopolymerization were evaluated. Evidence of grafting was provided by the characterization of cellulose and its graft copolymers by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and observation of the swelling behavior in some solvents. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, the physical properties of nanocrystalline samples of La0.7Sr0.3Mn1−xFexO3 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.20) perovskite manganites synthesized by the reverse micelle (RM) technique were explored in detail. The phase purity, crystal structure, and crystallite size of the samples were determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. All the samples had rhombohedral crystal structure and crystallite size increased with increase in Fe content in La0.7Sr0.3MnO3. The scanning electron micrographs (SEMs) exhibited smooth surface morphology and nonuniform shape of the particles. The optical properties studied using UV-visible absorption spectroscopy revealed a decrease in the absorbance and optical band gap with an increase in Fe content in La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 compound. The temperature-dependent resistivity measurements revealed semiconducting nature of x = 0 and 0.1 samples up to the studied temperature range, while a metal-to-insulator transition was observed at higher Fe doping. Magnetic studies revealed weak ferromagnetism in all the samples and a reduction in the maximum magnetization with an increase in Fe content. A close correlation between electrical transport and magnetic properties was observed with the doping of Fe ion in La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 at Mn site. These results advocate strong interactions associated with the double exchange mechanism among Fe3+ and Mn3+ ions.  相似文献

Amyloid fibrils are pathological hallmarks of various human diseases, including Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or motor neurone disease), and prion diseases. Treatment of the amyloid diseases are hindered, among other factors, by timely detection and therefore, early detection of the amyloid fibrils would be beneficial for treatment against these disorders. Here, a small molecular fluorescent probe is reported that selectively recognize the fibrillar form of amyloid beta(1–42), α-synuclein, and HET-s(218–289) protein over their monomeric conformation. The rational design of the reporters relies on the well-known cross-β-sheet repetition motif, the key structural feature of amyloids.  相似文献

The reduction of carbonyl compounds by borohydride supported on a cellulose–anion exchange resin is known. The synthesis of a graft copolymer of cellulose and poly(4‐vinyl pyridine) [CellO‐g‐poly(4‐VP)] has been carried out with ceric ions as a redox initiator. A postgrafting treatment of CellO‐g‐poly(4‐VP) with sodium borohydride has produced CellO‐g‐poly(4‐VP) borane, a polymer‐supported reducing agent. Optimum conditions pertaining to the maximum percentage of grafting have been evaluated as a function of the concentrations of the initiator, monomer, and nitric acid, amount of water, time, and temperature. The maximum percentage of grafting (585%) has been obtained with 0.927 mol/L of 4‐vinyl pyridine and 0.018 mol/L of ceric ammonium nitrate in 120 min at 45°C. The polymeric support, CellO‐g‐poly(4‐VP) borane, has been used for reduction reactions of different carbonyl compounds such as benzaldehyde, cyclohexanone, crotonaldehyde, acetone, and furfural. The graft copolymer has been characterized with IR and thermogravimetric analysis. The grafted cellulose has been found to be thermally stable. The reduced products have been characterized with IR and NMR spectral methods. The reagent has been reused for the reduction of a fresh carbonyl compound, and it has been observed that the polymeric reagent reduces the compounds successfully but with a little lower product yield. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
