We investigate the transverse modal properties of cylindrical subwavelength metal-clad nanowire and micropost lasers via rigorous theoretical waveguide analysis, including the effects of finite thickness metal cladding and gain in the core. The results of this analysis show that air-metal surface guided TM01 and some hybrid surface guided modes suffer less loss but are less confined to the core, while core-metal surface guided modes are better confined to the core but suffer greater loss. An increase in the thickness of the metal cladding reduces the loss of the core-metal surface guided modes. The modal gain and confinement of the metal-clad cavity are compared to an unclad cavity.  相似文献

This investigation focuses on slow, isothermal, two-phase flow of gas bubble suspensions in Separan solutions, prepared with the help of a sodium borohydride blowing agent at room temperature. The total residence time in these experiments is much smaller than characteristic times for growth or rise of bubbles. The variation of bubble volume fraction across a narrow gap between two planes, is recorded at two locations along the flow direction. This is done with a Cesium gamma-radiation source focused on a region of area.012 cm2 in the flow plane, and a Sodium iodide detector across the channel yielding a resolution of.01 over the range of void fractions investigated from.02 to.08. This measurement allows us to identify conditions under which the two-phase flow may be described by a two fluid model with a uniform bubbly core and a bubble free wall layer. With this two phase flow structure, a relative viscosity equation for the suspension is used to compute an apparent viscosity. Such calculations indicate that the observed reduction in apparent viscosity for the two phase flow may be attributed to a bubbly core which is more shear thinning than the medium. The additional shear thinning factor for the suspension is related to the elasticity of the medium.  相似文献

Two edible oil blends, namely groundnut oil:rice-bran oil and mustard oil:rice-bran oil, were prepared in different proportions and stored for a period of three years. Their physicochemical characteristics were determined. The results agreed with expected values except for free fatty acid percents and butyrorefrac-tometer readings, presumably due to rancidity. Fatty acid compositions of the blends were determined and ratios of characteristic fatty acids, like lignoceric to palmitic for groundnut oil:rice-bran oil blends, and erucic to palmitic for mustard oil:rice-bran oil blends, were calculated to identify individual oils in the blend.  相似文献

This article, from the Motorola (now Freescale) PowerPC design group, presents an interesting synergy among test, equivalence verification, and constraints. The authors use RTL, gate, and switch models of a design in two different flows one for test and one for functional verification to show that rectifying constraints and merging tests between the-two flows saves significant presilicon debug effort.  相似文献

Tamarind kernel polysaccharide (TKP), isolated by fractionation of tamarind kernel powder, was heated at 153°C for 5 h in presence of 0.074% hydrochloric acid. The resulting product was fractionated to yield a homogeneous dextrin which on hydrolysis produced D -xylose, D -galactose and D -glucose in the molar ratio of 2:1:10. Methylation of the dextrin followed by hydrolysis yielded 2,3,4-tri-O-methyl-D -xylose (2 moles); 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-methyl-D -glucose (1 mole); 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-methyl-D -galactose (1 mole); 2,3,4-tri-O-methyl-D -glucose (1 mole); 2,3,6-tri-O-methyl-D -glucose (4 moles); 2,3-di-O-methyl-D -glucose (4 moles); and 2-O-methyl-D -glucose (trace amounts). Upon oxidation of the dextrin with sodium metaperiodate, 1.4 moles of the oxidant was consumed with concomitant liberation of 0.38 mole of formic acid. Reduction of the oxopolysaccharide with sodium borohydride followed by acid hydrolysis of the polyol produced erythritol, glycerol and ethylene glycol in the molar ratio of 8:3:2. The above results suggest that the main reaction during dextrinization of TKP is that of hydrolysis. The side branches of the polymer are hydrolyzed to a greater extent than its backbone. Transglycosidation, which is the predominant reaction in starch dextrinization, takes place only to a small extent.  相似文献

Linear dispersion (LD) codes are a good candidate for high-data-rate multiple-input multiple-ouput (MIMO) signaling. Traditionally LD codes were designed by maximizing the average mutual information, which cannot guarantee good error performance. This paper presents a new design scheme for LD codes that directly minimizes the block error rate (BLER) in MIMO channels with arbitrary fading statistics and various detection algorithms. For MIMO systems employing LD codes, the error rate does not admit an explicit form. Therefore, we cannot use deterministic optimization methods to design the minimum-error-rate LD codes. In this paper, we propose a simulation-based optimization methodology for the design of LD codes through stochastic approximation and simulation-based gradient estimation. The gradient estimation is done using the score function method originally developed in the discrete-event-system community. The proposed method can be applied to design the minimum-error-rate LD codes for a variety of detector structures including the maximum-likelihood (ML) detector and several suboptimal detectors. It can also design optimal codes under arbitrary fading channel statistics; in particular, it can take into account the knowledge of spatial fading correlation at the transmitter and receiver ends. Simulation results show that codes generated by the proposed new design paradigm generally outperform the codes designed based on algebraic number theory.  相似文献

There has been recent experimental evidence that showed, in heavily doped p-type HgCdTe, the lifetime may be limited by the Auger 7 recombination mechanism. We have performed a detailed calculation of both the Auger 7 and Auger 1 lifetimes as a function of Cd composition (x), temperature (T), and doping (NA). Compared with those done 20 years ago, the depth and breadth of these calculations result in a significant increase in the accuracy of the predictions. We present here the Auguer 7 lifetime for two different compositions, x=0.305 and x=0.226 over a range of temperature extending from 60 K to 300 K and for acceptor doping from 1015 cm−3 to 1018 cm−3. The calculated results for MWIR (x=0.305) are in reasonably good agreement with recent experiments performed on MWIR HgCdTe at 77 K over a range of doping. In addition, we calculated γ (≡ τA7A1) with the same doping, composition (x ≈ 0.22), for a range of temperatures (40–80 K) and found γ=3–6.  相似文献

A 32-bit integer execution core containing a Han-Carlson arithmetic-logic unit (ALU), an 8-entry /spl times/ 2 ALU instruction scheduler loop and a 32-entry /spl times/ 32-bit register file is described. In a 130 nm six-metal, dual-V/sub T/ CMOS technology, the 2.3 mm/sup 2/ prototype contains 160 K transistors. Measurements demonstrate capability for 5-GHz single-cycle integer execution at 25/spl deg/C. The single-ended, leakage-tolerant dynamic scheme used in the ALU and scheduler enables up to 9-wide ORs with 23% critical path speed improvement and 40% active leakage power reduction when compared to a conventional Kogge-Stone implementation. On-chip body-bias circuits provide additional performance improvement or leakage tolerance. Stack node preconditioning improves ALU performance by 10%. At 5 GHz, ALU power is 95 mW at 0.95 V and the register file consumes 172 mW at 1.37 V. The ALU performance is scalable to 6.5 GHz at 1.1 V and to 10 GHz at 1.7 V, 25/spl deg/C.  相似文献

As an alternative to radio-frequency (RF) communications, optical wireless communications can support high data rates and low power operations while providing good jamming resistance. Our focus in this paper is on deep ultraviolet (UV) outdoor communications (UVOC) where solar blind and non-line-of-sight operations are attractive. Light beams from UV light-emitting diode (LED) arrays serve as information carriers. In an abstract sense, this is similar to directional transmissions in RF; however, the physical (PHY) layer characteristics significantly differ due to atmospheric scattering. First, we perform extensive experiments on a UV testbed towards understanding signal propagation and the impact of the PHY on medium access. We find that UV propagation supports (a) fully duplex communications and (b) multiple data rate transmissions. Next, we propose a novel contention-based media access control (UVOC-MAC) protocol that inherently accounts for the UV PHY layer and fully exploits multi-fold spatial reuse opportunities. Evaluations via both simulations and analysis show that UVOC-MAC effectively mitigates collisions and achieves high throughput. In particular, up to a 4-fold increase in throughput and 50 % reduction in collision are possible compared to a MAC protocol agnostic to the UV PHY properties.  相似文献

Studies of the capacity of cellular systems, stated in terms of the admissible number of remote users, have generally been limited to voice telephony. We address the problem of comparing the interference-limited performance of code-division multiple-access (CDMA) and time-division multiple-access (TDMA) systems in a packet-switched environment. The objective is to determine whether the capacity advantages claimed for circuit-switched CDMA still apply in a packet-switched environment, where the natural time diversity of bursty transmission may be a significant factor. Under a set of specific assumptions about the wireless environment (including path loss, shadow fading, multipath delay spread, cochannel interference, power control, and coding), we evaluate the number of users that can be admitted to the system while maintaining some desired quality-of-service (QoS) level. Four different classes of users with different characteristics and requirements are considered. The system capacity is found to depend significantly on the QoS objectives, which might be stated in terms of availability of some specified signal-to-interference level, packet-loss rate, or mean tolerable delay. The main finding is that strict requirements imposed on the radio access level tend to favor CDMA, whereas if some form of packet recovery is allowed at the higher layers (implying a relaxed set of requirements on the radio interface), then a somewhat higher capacity may be achieved by TDMA.  相似文献
