While qualitative studies have identified chlorogenic acids in antioxidant extracts, particularly ethyl acetate‐derived extracts, of Taraxacum officinale, quantitative analysis of these phenolic compounds remains largely unreported for this species. In this study, bioactivity‐guided fractionation of an antioxidant crude ethyl acetate extract (DPPH = 295.481 ± 0.955 mg TE g?1 extract) from T. officinale root resulted in a number of reverse‐phase fractions that demonstrated high antioxidant activity (DPPH = 1058.733–1312.136 mg TE g?1 extract), stronger than that of the synthetic antioxidant Trolox®. UPLC‐MS/MS screening of these fractions for the presence of selected mono‐ and di‐caffeoylquinic acids revealed large quantities of 1,5‐dicaffeoylquinic acid present in several fractions (853.052–907.324 μg mg?1), respectively. Due to the antioxidant potency and high levels of 1,5‐dicaffeoylquinic acid observed in these fractions, it was concluded that specifically this chlorogenic acid derivative is a major contributor to the antioxidant efficacy of dandelion root.  相似文献

In Canada, the residential building sector consumes 17 % of the total energy and 15 % of the total greenhouse gas emissions. In particular, the energy demand for cooling in the residential sector is increasing due to the large occupancy floor area and high usage of air conditioning. Minimizing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions is one of the highest priority goals set for national energy management strategies in developed countries including Canada. In this study, a framework based on the life cycle assessment approach is developed to assess the environmental impacts of different building cooling systems, namely conventional snow storage system, watertight snow storage system, high-density snow storage system, and the conventional chiller cooling system. Moreover, all these systems have varying energy requirements and associated environmental impacts during different phases (extraction and construction, utilization, and end of life) of the life cycle of a building. A low-rise residential building in Kelowna (BC, Canada) has been selected for the pragmatic application of the proposed framework. The annual cooling energy demand for the building is estimated for different phases. Subsequently, the life cycle impact assessment has been carried out using SimaPro 8.1 software and TRACI 2.1 method. For sustainability evaluation of different cooling systems over their life cycle, multi-criteria decision analysis has been employed using the ‘Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE II).’ The results showed that the snow storage systems tend to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and associated environmental impacts more than the conventional system.  相似文献

It is widely accepted that understanding the kinetics of steelmaking is a complex task, and reliable and validated kinetics models are required for developing successful steelmaking process models. Therefore, as an initial attempt, this paper analyses the applicability of first order kinetics to explain the steelmaking reaction kinetics using the published data in the IMproving Phosphorus Refining research report. The process data for 20 heats in a 6?tonne pilot plant were analysed for the removal of carbon, silicon, manganese and phosphorus using first order kinetics with static and dynamic equilibrium conditions. It was observed that the removal behaviour of silicon closely followed a first order kinetics relationship, while that of carbon only approximately followed a first order kinetics relationship. The removal of manganese did not show a good degree of fit with first order kinetics using static equilibrium condition, but a clear improvement was observed when calculated using dynamic equilibrium condition. In contrast, the kinetics of phosphorus oxidation did not follow any first order relationship.  相似文献

Civil infrastructure systems are critical assets that are subjected to damage, service-life deterioration, and increasing maintenance and rehabilitation cost. Effective infrastructure management and principles of sustainable development can help to find an optimal compromise between economic growth and environmental protection for all stakeholders. Colloquially, sustainability refers to meeting triple-bottom-line (TBL) performance objectives including environmental protection, economic prosperity, and social acceptability and equity as a result of short- and long-term policy decisions. In this paper, a comprehensive framework based on the integration of emergy synthesis and life cycle assessment (LCA) has been investigated for a public infrastructure system. The main purpose of the applied method, emergy-based LCA (Em-LCA), is to facilitate an informed decision making process for different asset management scenarios, by identifying and quantifying the attributes of TBL impacts over the life cycle of a civil infrastructure system. As a case study, Em-LCA framework has been applied to evaluate the sustainability of two different scenarios for a road construction project in interior British Columbia, Canada. The results indicate that Em-LCA offers a good understanding to address sustainability issues in infrastructure systems and provides quantitative and transparent results to facilitate informed decision making for asset management.  相似文献

In recent years, numerous attempts have been made to reduce the global environmental and associated socio-economic impacts of construction activities to achieve sustainable development goals. A sustainable system or activity refers to an eco-friendly, cost effective and socio-politically viable solution. This paper utilizes triple-bottom-line (TBL) sustainability criteria for the selection of a sustainable flooring system in Tehran (Iran). Three types of block joisted flooring systems – concrete, clay, and expanded polystyrene (EPS) blocks – have been investigated using life cycle analysis (LCA). Proposed approach provides a comprehensive evaluation system based on TBL criteria that are further divided into thirteen sub-criteria. It includes: (1) Environmental concerns (resource depletion, waste and emissions, waste management, climate change, environmental risk, embodied energy and energy loss); (2) Economic concerns (material cost, construction cost, and occupation and maintenance cost); and (3) Socio-political issues (social acceptance, vulnerability of area, and building weight). Analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is used as a multi-criteria decision making technique that helps to aggregate the impacts of proposed (sub)criteria into a sustainability index (SI) through a five-level hierarchical structure. Integration of AHP and LCA provides a framework for robust decision making that is consistent with sustainable construction practices. A detailed analysis shows that the EPS block is the most sustainable solution for block joisted flooring system in Tehran.  相似文献

Air emissions generated in grey cement manufacturing originate primarily from the combustion of fossil fuels required to heat the kiln and the chemical reaction of raw materials in the pyroprocessing phase. Given that the kiln system is enclosed, air emissions generated, discharge from a single point source kiln stack. Unlike other industries, the point source kiln stack enables the cement sector to accurately monitor and record total air emissions. The largest contributors to air emissions from grey cement manufacturing are carbon dioxide (CO2), oxides of nitrogen (NO x ), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and dust/particulate matter (PM). In Canada, grey cement manufacturing facilities are required to annually report these emissions through the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI). Since CO2, NO x , SO2 and PM are the largest contributors to air emissions, and Canadian grey cement facilities are required to report these emissions, combining NPRI data with annual grey cement production data allows for the development of intensity-based environmental performance indicators. Based on data provided by NPRI, in combination with industry production, we can better understand the environmental performance of Canada’s grey cement manufacturing. On the global stage, intensity-based performance measures provide a useful tool for comparison and demonstrate a strong environmental performance for grey cement production in Canada. As an energy intensive and trade exposed (EITE) grey cement manufacturing is vulnerable to unbalanced environmental policy, which may ultimately result in leakage of production and air emissions to developing countries.  相似文献

Three representatives of a novel class of amide (isopeptide) glycoconjugates have been synthesised: N alpha-D-galacturonoyl-L-lysine and N epsilon-D-galacturonoyl-L-lysine and N epsilon-D-polygalacturonoyl-L-lysine. Galacturonoyl-lysine amide bonds were labile in 2 M trifluoroacetic acid at 120 degrees and in alkali, but relatively stable in cold acid. The amide bonds were resistant to digestion by Driselase, Pronase and trypsin. The polysaccharide backbone of N epsilon-D-polygalacturonoyl-L-lysine was hydrolysed by Driselase to yield two major ninhydrin-positive compounds which were shown by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy to be tri- and tetra-alpha-(1-->4)-D-galacturonoyl-L-lysines. To investigate the possible natural occurrence of N-galacturonoyl isopeptide bonds, we fed cell-suspension cultures of spinach and tomato with D-[6-14C]glucuronic acid, which radio-labels pectic polysaccharides. The radioactive cell walls were digested with, sequentially, Driselase, mild acid, and proteinases. On electrophoresis at pH 2.0, several of the radioactive digestion-products were cathodic. Some of the cathodic products yielded [14C]galacturonic acid upon complete acid hydrolysis. The existence of these products is compatible with the presence of novel N-galacturonoyl isopeptide bonds, which could serve as cross-links in plant cell walls.  相似文献

In the application of Z‐number, how to generate Z‐number is a significant and open issue. In this paper, we proposed a method of generating Z‐number based on the OWA weights using maximum entropy considering the attitude (preference) of the decision maker. Some numerical examples are used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results show that the attitude (preference) of the decision maker can give an optimal possibility distribution of the reliability for Z‐number using maximum entropy.  相似文献

Objective image/video quality metrics which accurately represent the subjective quality of processed images are of paramount importance for the design and assessment of an image compression and transmission system. In some scenarios, it is also important to evaluate the quality of the received image with minimal reference to the transmitted one. For instance, for closed-loop optimization of a transmission system, the image quality measure can be evaluated at the receiver and provided as feedback information to the system controller. The original image – prior to compression and transmission – is not usually available at the receiver side, and it is important to rely at the receiver side on an objective quality metric that does not need reference or needs minimal reference to the original image. The observation that the human eye is very sensitive to edge and contour information of an image underpins the proposal of our reduced reference (RR) quality metric, which compares edge information between the distorted and the original image. Results highlight that the metric correlates well with subjective observations, also in comparison with commonly used full-reference metrics and with a state-of-the-art reduced reference metric.  相似文献

Life cycle impact assessment methodology was applied to the cement manufacturing sectors in China and Canada for comparative purposes. Primary air emissions of NO x , SO2, PM, and CO were evaluated in terms of intensity per tonne of Portland cement and in respect of their contribution to winter smog. The Eco-Indicator 99 impact category for respiratory effects on humans caused by inorganic substances was used as surrogate for winter smog. Impact was assessed in disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and damage, normalization, and weighting factors followed the egalitarian perspective. Results indicate some ambiguity for emission intensities with China outperforming Canada in NO x and SO2 while underperforming in PM and CO. However, in terms of impact to human health, China was more than double that of Canada at 14.2 DALYs per tonne of Portland cement. Highlighted by energy-intensive and trade-exposed industry like cement, environmental performance, and emissions leakage (associated with offshoring production) can have serious ramifications on regional air quality. Modernization and innovation in combination with a strong regulatory framework needs to be implemented in both emerging markets and developed markets to minimize emissions leakage and pollution loading.  相似文献
