An unpackaged microchip is used as the sensing element in a miniaturized gaseous proportional chamber. This letter reports on the fabrication and performance of a complete radiation imaging detector based on this principle. Our fabrication schemes are based on wafer-scale and chip-scale postprocessing. Compared to hybrid-assembled gaseous detectors, our microsystem shows superior alignment precision and energy resolution, and offers the capability to unambiguously reconstruct 3D radiation tracks on the spot.  相似文献

We wanted to examine whether a relation between foraging strategy, morphology, the mechanics of tongue protrusion, and prey chemical detection and discrimination exists in agamid lizards. Tongue-flick behavior was observed in two species of this family: Uromastix acanthinurus and Plocederma stellio. Potential prey chemical discrimination by means of tongue flicking was examined by using applicator tests. Tongue flicks were subsequently recorded by high-speed video in combination with the electrical activity of a number of jaw and hyolingual muscles. The kinematics of jaws and tongue and the muscle activity patterns were quantified. To investigate if the observed differences in tongue-flick behavior (mainly in the frequency of use) are translated into corresponding differences in tongue morphology, the tongues of both species were examined by light and scanning electron microscopy. The species differed mainly in the surface morphology of the foretongue and in the abundance and distribution of taste buds on the tongue and oral cavity. These differences can be related to behavioural observations; whereas U. acanthinurus readily uses tongue flicks to detect and discriminate between food items, P. stellio does not. However, differences in tongue-flick mechanics (kinematics, electromyograms) between both species were minor. Based on the data gathered in this study and from previously published data, an evolutionary transformation series leading to the complex tongue-flick cycles as observed in snakes is proposed. The required morphological and mechanical changes that accompany such an evolutionary sequence are discussed.  相似文献

This paper describes the application of the extended or universal logit model to decompositional or "stated" choice modeling in order to increase the scope and validity of such choice models. In this approach, choice experiments are designed that permit the estimation of utility functions that include the effects of context variables like choice set composition and decision background. The approach is illustrated with some simple calculated examples concerning consumer choice of shopping center, housing, and transportation mode.An earlier version of this paper was presented at the 30th European Congress, Istanbul, August 1990.  相似文献

The subperiosteal browlift and midface lift combination is a total mobilization of the composite full-thickness soft tissues from the bony skeleton with superior suspension. The object is to correct midfacial ptosis and the "tired" look of the lateral eyelids. It is done in conjunction with a browlift so that a composite correction of the upper and midface is achieved. When indicated, a modified lower cheeklift and the usual procedures for correcting neck deformities are utilized in combination. We believe the procedure is safe and the results reported are natural and long-lasting. This review of 130 cases also stresses technical aspects and the safety of the procedure.  相似文献

The seven trans-membrane chemokine receptor CCR-5 is a coreceptor for macrophage tropic HIV-1 strains. CCR-5 responds to a number of chemokines, including macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP)-1 alpha. We describe the use of MIP-1 alpha in a biotin tyramine-mediated proximity selection to guide the selection of CCR-5-specific phage antibodies from a large phage display human library. Proximity based selections resulted in a population of antibodies recognizing CCR-5 on primary CD4+ lymphocytes, none of which blocked MIP-1 alpha binding to cells. The selected population of phage antibodies were subsequently used as guide molecules for a second phase of selection that was carried out in the absence of MIP-1 alpha. This generated a panel of CCR-5-binding antibodies, of which around 20% inhibited MIP-1 alpha binding to CD4+. The single chain Fvs (scFv) generated by this step-back selection procedure also inhibited MIP-1 alpha-mediated calcium signaling.  相似文献

In this study, the metastable and stable solid liquid phase transformations of the hypereutectic alloys Al-20Si-5Fe-2Ni (wt%) and Al-17Si-5Fe-3.5Cu-1.1Mg-0.6Zr in as-atomised powder and in as-hot-forged material have been investigated. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) measurements at high temperatures have been performed. The resultant products have been thoroughly analysed using Light Optical Microscopy (LOM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) microanalysis. During solidification large Si, (Al4FeSi2), FeNiAl9, Al7Cu2Fe and Q(Cu2Mg8Si6Al5) are formed. A cooling rate of 5 °C/min and 1 °C/min is too high for the formation of the equilibrium phases (Al5FeSi) and Al7Cu2Fe. The understanding of the sequence of transformations is useful in order to define appropriate processing parameters for these alloys produced by powder metallurgy. The temperature at which the first liquid phase appears during heating at 5 °C/min is 559 °C for the Al-Si-Fe-Ni powder and 506 °C for the Al-Si-Fe-Cu-Mg-Zr powder.  相似文献

Retinoid signalling plays an important role in embryonic pattern formation. Excess of retinoic acid during gastrulation results in axial defects in vertebrate embryos, suggesting that retinoids are involved in early anteroposterior patterning. To study retinoid signalling in zebrafish embryos, we developed a novel method to detect endogenous retinoids in situ in embryos, using a fusion protein of the ligand inducible transactivation domain of a retinoic acid receptor and a heterologous DNA binding domain. Using this method, we show that retinoid signalling is localized in zebrafish embryos in the region of the embryonic shield, and towards the end of gastrulation in a posterior dorsal domain. To investigate the relationships between the spatial distribution of retinoid signalling and the regulation of retinoid target genes, we studied the downregulation by retinoic acid of two genes expressed in anterior regions of the embryo, goosecoid and otx1. These experiments show that expression of both genes is strongly downregulated in the anterior neurectoderm of zebrafish embryos treated with retinoic acid, whereas mesendodermal expression is only mildly affected. Interestingly, a significant downregulation of goosecoid expression by retinoic acid was observed only during midgastrulation but not in earlier stages. In agreement with these results, spatial expression of goosecoid and otx1 does not overlap with the region of retinoid signalling in the late gastrula. Our data support the hypothesis that a localized retinoid signal is involved in axial patterning during early development, at least in part through the repression of anterior genes in posterior regions of the embryo. Furthermore, our data suggest that the action of retinoids is spatially as well as temporally regulated in the developing embryo.  相似文献
