This paper reports on the first demonstration of a half-bridge power inverter constructed from silicon carbide gate turn-off thyristors (GTOs) operated in the conventional GTO mode. This circuit was characterized with input bus voltages of up to 600 VDC and 2 A (peak current density of 540 A/cm2) with resistive loads using a pulse-width modulated switching frequency of 2 kHz. We discuss the implications of the thyristor's electrical characteristics and the circuit topology on the overall operation of the half-bridge circuit. The conventional treatment of inflammatory bowel disease should center around the liberal use of one of the many available forms of 5-ASA. Sulfasalazine should be used initially with the newer mesalamine-only containing drugs being reserved for sulfasalazine-intolerant patients or for those patients who require larger doses of medication. The choice of the delivery method should be made with the knowledge of the extent of disease and the potential coverage areas of the individual delivery methods. Systemic and topical glucocorticoids are an invaluable adjunct to 5-ASA therapy, but their use must be directed with the goal of remission induction. The tapering of glucocorticoids should be as prompt as the maintenance of remission allows, with a useful general guideline of decreasing the dose by 1 mg per day. Immunosuppressive therapy, including azathioprine and 6-mercaptopurine, holds promise for refractory cases of inflammatory bowel disease and for their potential steroid sparing properties; antibiotic therapy with metronidazole and ciprofloxacin in the absence of documented infectious disease offers additional routes to control disease. The majority of patients require a combination of drugs to attain remission. Only further study will reveal the ideal regimen for each of the different subsets of inflammatory bowel disease. 相似文献

It is shown that the unique coherence properties of mode-locked lasers can be exploited to provide new opportunities for high-speed data transmission. Using passive Mach-Zehnder optical delay stages, very high bit rate optical data streams constructed from asynchronously combined transmitters can be demultiplexed directly in the optical domain, without imposing restrictions on the source wavelength. There are four primary factors to consider in genetic selection strategies: 1) accuracy of selection, 2) selection intensity, 3) effective population size, and 4) mating system. Current theory indicates that optimum response to selection is achieved by maximizing the first three factors and using a mating systems that allows optimization of reproductive characteristics in dam lines and production characteristics in sire lines. However, with limited resources, compromises among the first three factors are needed. Simulations are useful for examining those compromises. Unrealistic simplifying assumptions are necessary for analytic theoretical results and thus do not address real world breeding problems. Using simulations, the relationship between selection accuracy, which is increased by use of family selection indices or Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUP), and response to selection was examined. Results show that those procedures place a great restriction on effective population size, which offsets most of their advantage, i.e., there is too little emphasis on effective population size. A revision of the methodology and a reappraisal of the results of selection theory for optimization of genetic response is required. Another relationship that is of fundamental importance in breeding programs is that between selection intensity and effective population size. Analytical results for the additive case have been developed but have never been extended to heterotic traits. A gene level simulation program was developed to examine that relationship. Results show that the optimal selection strategy depends on the trait being selected. For additive traits and in the short term (20 generations), one should maximize selection intensity. For heterotic traits, an intermediate proportion (25% of each sex) gives optimal response. In all breeding strategies, primary attention must be given to the rate of inbreeding, which is increased by increasing either accuracy of selection or selection intensity. Inbreeding reduces response to selection in two ways. First, for both additive and nonadditive traits, inbreeding is a measure of the amount of random genetic drift that has occurred. Genetic drift causes loss of favorable alleles. Once lost, those alleles can never be recovered and thus genetic drift lowers the selection limit. Second, for heterotic traits, inbreeding results in a depression of the mean caused by directional dominance. 相似文献

The high-temperature operation of a silicon carbide gate turn-off thyristor is evaluated for use in inductively loaded switching circuits. Compared to purely resistive load elements, inductive loads subject the switching device to higher internal power dissipation. The ability of silicon carbide components to operate at elevated temperatures and high power dissipations are important factors for their use in future power conversion/control systems. In this work, a maximum current density of 540 A/cm2 at 600 V was switched at a frequency of 2 kHz and at several case temperatures up to 150°C. Activated ABL oncogenes cause B-cell leukemias in mice and chronic myelogenous leukemia in humans. However, the mechanism of transformation is complex and not well understood. A method to rapidly and reversibly activate c-ABL was created by fusing the extra-cytoplasmic and transmembrane domain of the erythropoietin (EPO) receptor with c-ABL (EPO R/ABL). When this chimeric receptor was expressed in Ba/F3 cells, the addition of EPO resulted in a dose-dependent activation of c-ABL tyrosine kinase and was strongly antiapoptotic and weakly mitogenic. To evaluate the contributions of various ABL domains to biochemical signaling and biological effects, chimeric receptors were constructed in which the ABL SH3 domain was deleted (triangle upSH3), the SH2 domain was deleted (triangle upSH2), the C-terminal actin-binding domain was deleted (triangle upABD), or kinase activity was eliminated by a point mutation, K290M (KD). The mutant receptors were stably expressed in Ba/F3 cells and analyzed for signaling defects, proliferation, viability, and EPO-induced leukemia in nude mice. When compared with the ability of the full-length EPO R/ABL receptor to induce proliferation and support viability in vitro, the triangle upSH3 mutant was equivalent, the triangle upSH2 mutant was moderately impaired, and the triangle upABD and KD mutants were profoundly impaired. None of these cell lines caused leukemia in mice in the absence of pharmacological doses of EPO. However, in mice treated with EPO (10 U/d), death from leukemia occurred rapidly with wild-type and triangle upSH3. However, time to death was prolonged by at least twofold for triangle upSH2 and greater than threefold for triangle upABD. This inducible model of ABL transformation provides a method to link specific signaling defects with specific biological defects and has shown an important role for the C-terminal actin-binding domain in proliferation and transformation in the context of this receptor/oncogene. 相似文献

The effect of enhanced diffusion caused by the electrical deactivation of arsenic on the reverse short-channel effect (RSCE) in NMOS devices is investigated. A simple four-mask process was utilized to fabricate deep sub-micron NMOS devices. Source/drain (S/D) implant and anneal conditions were varied in order to determine their implications on the RSCE. Results indicate that when high concentrations of arsenic deactivate, enhanced diffusion occurs, leading to significantly more RSCE.
