Performance on computer-simulated, everyday memory tasks was found to deteriorate with age in 434 Belgian (aged 14–88 yrs) and 434 American Ss matched on gender and age. This age-related memory decline was reasonably consistent across samples. Difficulties in cross-cultural research and the advantages of ecologically valid measurement instruments are discussed. Instruments included a grocery list selective reminding test, the Wechsler Memory Scale, the Benton Visual Retention Test, and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). This paper reports on statistics concerning production and consumption of packaging (as a whole or per capita) in Europe, in the USA, in Japan and in the world. Data have been provided by National Trade Associations and by consultants specialized in packaging and in economics. It is estimated that in 1986 the global consumption of packaging reached 150 millions of tonnes valued at 1200 billions of French francs. Consumption could reach 247 million tonnes by the year 2000. Paper and board have the highest consumption rate, but plastics have the highest rate of growth. Nevertheless, consumption per capita in the industrialized countries will be more than 10 times the consumption in underdeveloped countries. The packaging industries take fourth place in the USA, sixth in Western Germany and twelfth in France. In Europe, as in the world, paper and board is the material most used (40%), with glass (a high density material) taking second place and plastics third, i.e. if we consider the quantity of materials and not their value. Some differences appear between the various countries, but the figures for USA and Japan lead to similar conclusions. The survey shows clearly that the USA as compared with Europe has twice the consumption of packaging materials per capita and this difference is even greater compared with the rest of the world.  相似文献

We propose a sensor based on the temperature dependant behavior of the two lines of green emission of the erbium ion. The ratio of the intensities of these two lines presents a very low dependance on pump wavelength and pump power fluctuations. The history and development of the ICI polychromatic dyeing process are outlineed The basic mechanics of the process and the applicator and its essential principles are described. The factors governing the control and reproduction of patterns are described, together with dye-fixation procedures. The second-sound velocity of a superfluid mixture increases when a static and homogeneous magnetic field is applied. In particular, for dilute mixtures (molar 3 He concentration <0.1) and low temperatures, (0.1<T<0.6 K) the relative velocity increase is independent of concentration and is given by u 2/u 25×1016 B e 2 T –2. It should be easily observed wheneverB e T –1is larger than 10 5 G K1 and can lead to a novel measurement of the magnetic susceptibility.  相似文献

MgO-Y2O3 nanostructured composite powder (volume ratio of 50:50) was synthesized by a sol-gel combustion process which generated crystal sizes in the 10-20 nm range. The MgO-Y2O3 nanopowder was plasma sprayed using a conventional, DC arc plasma spray system. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the as-sprayed MgO-Y2O3 coating is composed of cubic MgO and Y2O3 phases and has ~95% density. Microstructure characterization by SEM reveals that the as-sprayed coating has fine grain sizes of 100-300 nm as a result of rapid solidification. The hardness of the coating, 7.5 ± 0.6 GPa, is higher than that of coarse-grained, dense MgO, and Y2O3 ceramics. This approach demonstrates the potential of plasma spray processes for making thick, dense MgO-Y2O3 nanocomposite performs for applications as durable, infrared windows.  相似文献

A practical work on design of analog bipolar integrated circuits is presented. The designed circuits are fabricated by Thomson composants militaires et spatiaux(TCMS,) and subsequently measured by the students. The semi-custom technique of pre-diffused array allows no prerequisite knowledge on technology. The process used(HF2C) has a large field of applications due to high performance of the available components (ft = 3 GHz for theNPN transitors). TheCAD tools involved areSPICE for circuit simulation and Princess (Silvar Lisco) as the layout editor. Littoral habitats in large rivers are influenced to varying degrees by changes in discharge. Irrigation abstractions can increase the amount of habitat that would naturally be dewatered during low flow periods and therefore it is important to have some knowledge of the potential impact this may have on riverine macroinvertebrates. The macroinvertebrate assemblages of common littoral habitats in riffles, pools and runs in two reaches each of the Macquarie and Mersey Rivers, northern Tasmania, Australia were compared from samples collected during the low flow and irrigation season, between December 1991 and April 1992. The area under water of these habitats, riffle substrata, macrophyte beds and coarse woody debris, responded differently to changes in discharge. Within a reach, the same taxonomic groups often dominated the total number of macroinvertebrates for all habitats, but there were differences in the proportions contributed by these taxa to the different habitats. In general, taxa characteristic of slow-flowing or lentic habitats, such as ostracods and amphipods, were dominant in macrophyte beds in pools and runs, whereas taxa such as larval elmid beetles and hydropsychid caddisflies were dominant in riffles. A substantial component of the fauna from each habitat within a reach was unique to that habitat, but there was always a similar number of taxa common to all habitats. Classification and ordination grouped samples from both rivers firstly by habitat and secondly by month and reach. Total density and family richness of invertebrates differed by reach, habitat and month in both rivers, except for richness in the Mersey River where habitat was not significant. Differences in densities and numbers of invertebrate families among habitats were not consistent between reaches for each river. This study has highlighted the differences in macroinvertebrate assemblages of several littoral habitats in two lowland rivers in Tasmania. Differences in taxonomic composition, density and richness among habitats within reaches strongly imply the uniqueness of these habitats in terms of the invertebrate faunas that occupy them. We suggest that if maintenance of biotic diversity is an aim of instream flow management, water allocations that address low flows should place a high priority on the maintenance of a diversity of habitats.  相似文献

The application of loop and data transformations to array and loop intensive programs is crucial to obtain a good performance. Designers often apply these transformations manually or semi-automatically. For the class of static affine programs, automatic methods exist for proving the correctness of these transformations. Realistic multimedia systems, however, often contain constructs that fall outside of this class. We present an extension of a widening based approach to handle the most relevant of these constructs, viz. accesses to array slices, data dependent accesses and data dependent assignments, and report on some experiments with non-trivial applications.  相似文献

A reservation-based protocol based on a Pipelining Cyclic Scheduling Algorithm (PCSA) is proposed for packet-switched single-hop photonic networks. This protocol contains a mechanism to avoid contention at the receivers. Packets arrive in order and the transmission delay and its variations are optimized. The effects of propagation delay and processing time are almost compensated for by a pipelining technique. Analytical models and analysis are developed. The transmission delay is calculated as a function of the offered load, the number of nodes, propagation delay and processing time.
