This work describes a route for platinum recovery from spent commercial Pt and PtSnIn/Al2O3 catalysts using strong basic mesoporous and macroporous anion exchange resins (Cl form). The catalysts were leached with aqua regia (75 °C, 20-25 min). Platinum adsorption was influenced by the presence of other metals which form chlorocomplexes (tin, indium) and also base metals (aluminum). However, it was possible to overcome this fact by a sequential desorption procedure. Aluminum was selectively removed from the resins by elution with 3 mol L−1 HCl. Platinum was desorbed passing 1 mol L−1 Na2S2O3 (pH 9). Tin was removed by elution with 0.1 mol L−1 ascorbic acid. Indium was removed using 0.1 mol L−1 EDTA as eluent. Desorption efficiency exceeded 99% for all metals. Metals were recovered in high yields (>98 wt%).  相似文献

In this paper, the degradation of phenolic compounds using hydrogen peroxide as oxidizer and the enzyme extract from Serratia marcescens AB 90027 as catalyst was reported. With such an enzyme/H2O2 combination treatment, a high chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency was achieved, e.g., degradation of hydroquinone exceeded 96%. From UV-visible and IR spectra, the degradation mechanisms were judged as a process of phenyl ring cleavage. HPLC analysis shows that in the degradation p-benzoquinone, maleic acid and oxalic acid were formed as intermediates and that they were ultimately converted to CO2 and H2O. With the enzyme/H2O2 treatment, vanillin, hydroquinone, catechol, o-aminophenol, p-aminophenol, phloroglucinol and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde were readily degraded, whereas the degradation of phenol, salicylic acid, resorcinol, p-cholorophenol and p-nitrophenol were limited. Their degradability was closely related to the properties and positions of their side chain groups. Electron-donating groups, such as -OH, -NH2 and -OCH3 enhanced the degradation, whereas electron-withdrawing groups, such as -NO2, -Cl and -COOH, had a negative effect on the degradation of these compounds in the presence of enzyme/H2O2. Compounds with -OH at ortho and para positions were more readily degraded than those with -OH at meta positions.  相似文献

Gas-phase compost biofilters are extensively used in concentrated animal feeding operations to remove odors and, in some cases, ammonia from air sources. The expected biochemical pathway for these predominantly aerobic systems is nitrification. However, non-uniform media with low oxygen levels can shift biofilter microbial pathways to denitrification, a source of greenhouse gases. Several factors contribute to the formation of anoxic/anaerobic zones: media aging, media and particle structure, air velocity distribution, compaction, biofilm thickness, and moisture content (MC) distribution. The present work studies the effects of media moisture conditions on ammonia (NH3) removal and greenhouse gas generation (nitrous oxide, N2O and methane, CH4) for gas-phase compost biofilters subject to a 100-day controlled drying process. Continuous recordings were made for the three gases and water vapor (2.21-h sampling cycle, each cycle consisted of three gas species, and water vapor, for a total of 10,050 data points). Media moisture conditions were classified into three corresponding media drying rate (DR) stages: Constant DR (wetter media), falling DR, and stable-dry system. The first-half of the constant DR period (0-750 h; MC = 65-52%, w.b.) facilitated high NH3 removal rates, but higher N2O generation and no CH4 generation. At the drier stages of the constant DR (750-950 h; MC = 52-48%, w.b.) NH3 removal remained high but N2O net generation decreased to near zero. In the falling DR stage (1200-1480 h; MC = 44-13%) N2O generation decreased, CH4 increased, and NH3 was no longer removed. No ammonia removal or greenhouse gas generation was observed in the stable-dry system (1500-2500 h; MC = 13%). These results indicate that media should remain toward the drier region of the constant DR (in close proximity to the falling DR stage; MC = 50%, approx.), to maintain high levels of NH3 removal, reduced levels of N2O generation, and nullify levels of CH4 generation.  相似文献

Dominican immigrants are increasingly turning away from traditional metropolitan gateways to settle in relatively small and medium-sized cities in the Northeast US. This study examines their views about neighbourhood social disorder and cohesiveness in Reading, Pennsylvania. The results indicate that residents are divided about the pervasiveness of disorder-related problems in their neighbourhoods. Moreover, views about social disorder have implications for social cohesiveness, but neither of these dimensions of urban life can be understood apart from immigrant incorporation. Among those who live in areas without disorder, naturalised citizens are especially likely to feel that they live in a tight-knit neighbourhood and to interact with neighbours. The study concludes with an examination of perceptions of neighbourhood safety.  相似文献

Unmodified zeolite surfaces show no affinity for anions, due to the fact that zeolites are negatively charged. Thus, adsorption of anions by zeolites has not been given much attention. In this work, after modification of clinoptilolite by different cations, the mineral was found to adsorb a considerable amount of the divalent anion chromate. Chromate adsorption was proportional to the K(sp) of the chromate precipitate and the amount of the exchangeable cation. The amount of chromate adsorbed was maximized when the Pb-exchanged form was used. Chromate desorption in deionized water indicated that between 2.50% and 18.60% of the adsorbed chromate was released depending upon the exchangeable cation. Some of the exchanged forms are candidate materials for adsorption and immobilization of chromate.  相似文献

Hydrothermal ecosystems of the Mid Atlantic Ridge (MAR) are dominated by shrimps and mussels that are naturally exposed to elevated levels of heavy metals providing unique in situ laboratories for ecotoxicological investigations. This study reports on the tissue compartmentalization of both micro-essential (Fe, Zn, Cu) and toxic metals (Hg) in two nutritionally distinct cariddean vent shrimps: Rimicaris exoculata and Mirocaris fortunata, in order to shed light on organism-biota interactions at hydrothermal vents. High metal concentrations in shrimps confirmed extreme exposure levels at both geochemically different hydrothermal vents (Rainbow and Lucky Strike). However, Hg concentrations were below those reported in species for human consumption that may either suggest low bioavailability of the metal, or its effective detoxification/depuration by the hydrothermal shrimp that needs to be confirmed by post-capture toxicological investigations. Distribution of metals in different tissues had very similar patterns in both shrimp species, the target organs being gill and pylorus. Tissue levels correlated well with end-member fluid composition with regard to element ratios, i.e. Fe/Zn and Fe/Cu ratios in end-member fluids reported for Rainbow and L. Strike were conserved in the gills of M. fortunata. Moreover, R. exoculata that lives closer to venting exits as compared to M. fortunata, had similar or often less metals accumulated in selected organs, possibly owing to its higher degree of adaptation to hydrothermal conditions. Despite of high concentrations in tissues micro essential metals only represented a small fraction (14-36%) of the whole body burden indicating preponderance of minerals on the surface and/or in the gut, and thus points to improper use of whole body concentration in metal bioavailability interpretations at hydrothermal vents.  相似文献

When conducting optical imaging experiments, in vivo, the signal to noise ratio and effective spatial and temporal resolution is fundamentally limited by physiological motion of the tissue. A three-dimensional (3D) motion tracking scheme, using a multiphoton excitation microscope with a resonant galvanometer, (512 × 512 pixels at 33 frames s(-1)) is described to overcome physiological motion, in vivo. The use of commercially available graphical processing units permitted the rapid 3D cross-correlation of sequential volumes to detect displacements and adjust tissue position to track motions in near real-time. Motion phantom tests maintained micron resolution with displacement velocities of up to 200 μm min(-1), well within the drift observed in many biological tissues under physiologically relevant conditions. In vivo experiments on mouse skeletal muscle using the capillary vasculature with luminal dye as a displacement reference revealed an effective and robust method of tracking tissue motion to enable (1) signal averaging over time without compromising resolution, and (2) tracking of cellular regions during a physiological perturbation.  相似文献

A miniature fast response high temperature pressure probe, with demonstrated use in liquid metals up to 255 °C (528 K), has been developed. Innovative packaging technologies have been applied to integrate a conventional piezoresistive silicon pressure sensor into the probe, without the need of an auxiliary water-cooling system. In situ static calibrations are used to verify the linearity of the pressure signal and the stability of the pressure sensitivity (0.5% standard deviation over 70 min at 255 °C). Dynamic calibration, completed in an air shock tube facility, yields the probe's natural frequency. This frequency, when corrected for probe operation in liquid tin, is found to be 100 kHz. The reliability and accuracy of the probe is assessed by mounting it in a tin droplet dispenser for use in an extreme ultraviolet light source. Droplet dispensers typically include an excitation mechanism, which can be based on the generation of acoustic pressure waves to impose a desired droplet frequency. The probe accuracy is verified by the comparison of pressure measurements with laser Doppler vibrometry measurements of the pressure generating structure. A reference pressure measurement, conducted at representative conditions, shows a complex frequency response, with peaks distributed over three orders of magnitude and maximum amplitude of 440 mbar. Time variance of the excitation mechanism due to thermal transients is studied by monitoring the pressure response during operation. Finally, the linearity of the excitation system, with respect to the excitation amplitude, is verified by response measurements. In conclusion, the developed probe is capable of characterizing the excitation mechanism of a liquid metal droplet dispenser. Additionally, real-time monitoring of the performance of the excitation system during long-term operation is possible.  相似文献

A scintillator-based energetic ion loss detector has been successfully commissioned on the Alcator C-Mod tokamak. This probe is located just below the outer midplane, where it captures ions of energies up to 2 MeV resulting from ion cyclotron resonance heating. After passing through a collimating aperture, ions impact different regions of the scintillator according to their gyroradius (energy) and pitch angle. The probe geometry and installation location are determined based on modeling of expected lost ions. The resulting probe is compact and resembles a standard plasma facing tile. Four separate fiber optic cables view different regions of the scintillator to provide phase space resolution. Evolving loss levels are measured during ion cyclotron resonance heating, including variation dependent upon individual antennae.  相似文献

We report the design and development of insulated gate bipolar junction transistor based high performance driver for operating thyratrons in grounded grid mode. With careful design, the driver meets the specification of trigger output pulse rise time less than 30 ns, jitter less than +/-1 ns, and time delay less than 160 ns. It produces a -600 V pulse of 500 ns duration (full width at half maximum) at repetition rate ranging from 1 Hz to 1.14 kHz. The developed module also facilitates heating and biasing units along with protection circuitry in one complete package.  相似文献
