The properties of GaAs Schottky barrier diodes as video detectors and mixing elements were investigated in the frequency range from 0.8–2.5 THz. For the most sensitive diode, the video responsivity and system noise temperature were measured as a function of incident laser power. The highest video responsivity was 2,000 V/W at 214μm and 60 V/W at 118μm. For five diodes differing in doping, capacitance, series resistance and anode diameter, the system noise temperature was measured at 214μm and 118μm. The best single sideband (SSB) values are 12,300 K and 24,200 K at 214μm and 118μm, respectively. The system noise temperature versus frequency is given over the range from 0.5–3 THz for two specific diodes demonstrating that the sharpness of the I–V characteristics is only of secondary importance for mixer perfomance at such high frequencies.  相似文献

Eleven new far infrared (FIR) laser transitions were obtained by pumping a D2O oscillator with the 9P(12), 9P(18), 9P(44), and 10R(22) line radiation of a TEA-CO2-laser. The efficiency of at least two of the new lines is comparable to that of the strongest known lines in D2O.  相似文献

The calcium-calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) subserves activity-dependent plasticity in central neurons. To examine in vivo the implication of CaMKII activity in synaptic plasticity, we used an animal model characterized by developmentally induced targeted neuronal ablation within the cortex and the hippocampus, and showing, at presynaptic level, molecular alterations leading to facilitation of glutamate release in hippocampal synapses (methylazoxymethanol-treated rats, MAM-rats). We report here that at the postsynaptic side, the activity of CaMKII is markedly decreased in MAM-rats when compared to controls, although the concentration of the enzyme in Post Synaptic Density (PSD) is not altered. This effect is confined to PSD-associated CaMKII, as enzyme activity tested in the soluble fraction is unchanged in MAM-rats. In addition, the decreased activity is not due to inhibition by autophosphorylation in specific sites within the calmodulin-binding domain, as preincubation with purified phosphatases 1 and 2A failed to restore CaMKII activity in PSD of MAM-rats. The CaMKII-dependent phosphorylation of NR2A/B subunits of NMDA receptor is lower in MAM-rats when compared to controls (51.77 +/- 7.39% of controls level), as revealed in back-phosphorylation experiments. In addition, a treatment able to restore long-term potentiation (LTP) in hippocampal slices from MAM-rats, e.g. exposure to D-serine, is able to restore CaMKII activity to the control value.  相似文献

Clusters of correlated activity in functional magnetic resonance imaging data can identify regions of interest and indicate interacting brain areas. Because the extraction of clusters is computationally complex, we apply an approximative method which is based on artificial neural networks. It allows one to find clusters of various degrees of connectivity ranging between the two extreme cases of cliques and connectivity components. We propose a criterion which allows to evaluate the relevance of such structures based on the robustness with respect to parameter variations. Exploiting the intracluster correlations, we can show that regions of substantial correlation with an external stimulus can be unambiguously separated from other activity.  相似文献

Two inverse algorithms were applied for solving the EEG inverse problem assuming a single dipole as a source model. For increasing the efficiency of the forward computations the lead field approach based on the reciprocity theorem was applied. This method provides a procedure to calculate the computationally heavy forward problem by a single solution for each EEG lead. A realistically shaped volume conductor model with five major tissue compartments was employed to obtain the lead fields of the standard 10-20 EEG electrode system and the scalp potentials generated by simulated dipole sources. A least-squares method and a probability-based method were compared in their performance to reproduce the dipole source based on the reciprocal forward solution. The dipole localization errors were 0 to 9 mm and 2 to 22 mm without and with added noise in the simulated data, respectively. The two different inverse algorithms operated mainly very similarly. The lead field method appeared applicable for the solution of the inverse problem and especially useful when a number of sources, e.g., multiple EEG time instances, must be solved.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To study noninvasively the functional anatomy and pathophysiologic characteristics of the globus pallidus external (GPe) and internal (GPi) divisions. DESIGN: Structural and functional neuroimaging using high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging. SETTING: University medical center research facility. SUBJECTS. Seven patients with pallidal lesions, 4 with an akinetic-rigid syndrome and 3 with a dystonic syndrome, and 15 age-matched volunteers. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: T2-weighted anatomical magnetic resonance imaging and number of activated voxels in the GP during rapid supination and pronation of the hand. RESULTS: T2-weighted images showed hyperintense bilateral lesions in the GP of all patients. Patients with dystonic syndromes had isolated lesions in the GPi. Patients with signs of akinetic-rigid syndromes showed abnormalities in the GPe or in central portions of the GP (GPc). Patients with lesions in both parts of the GP had akinetic-rigid or dystonic syndromes. All patients showed activation in the areas of the lesions. The number of activated voxels in the GP was significantly smaller (P < .005, Wilcoxon signed rank test) in patients than in control subjects. Activation of the GP was predominantly contralateral to the moving hand. CONCLUSIONS: Lesions in the GPi result in a loss of inhibitory pallidal projections to the thalamus, which may explain the hyperkinetic signs. Lesions in the GPe lead to an increased inhibition of the thalamus, which may explain the hypokinetic signs. Neuronal activation in lesion sites suggests the presence of remaining functionally vital tissue.  相似文献

A D2O laser oscillator axially pumped by a TEA CO2laser operating on the9P(32)line has been investigated. The laser emits five FIR lines whose emission characteristics are presented. For the three strongest lines (66, 111, and 116 μm) and an oscillator of length 45 cm, a single axial mode can be made to dominate. Special attention is drawn to the newly discovered and identified 111 μm line.  相似文献
