Rates of poor psychological adjustment of children with sickle cell disease remained relatively constant over initial and follow-up assessment points. 50 children (aged 7–12 yrs) and their mothers completed the initial protocol. 30 children completed the follow-up plus 5 additional children and their mothers. These Ss were aged 7–24 yrs at follow-up. With initial levels of adjustment controlled, children's strategies for coping with pain accounted for a significant increment in child-reported symptoms and mother-reported internalizing behavior problems at follow-up beyond the contribution of illness and demographic parameters and follow-up interval. Deuterated scintillators (NE230) can provide, without time-of-flight, usable neutron energy spectra for neutrons E n⩾1 MeV. The authors have assembled and calibrated several of these detectors and used them in experiments searching for d+d fusion-neutron emission (E n, 2.5 MeV) in Pd+D 2O electrolysis and Ti+D2 adsorption at LN temperatures. The detectors yielded direct fusion-neutron spectra and set limits in the Pd+D and Ti+D experiments of <7×10-24 fusion n/s/dd pair and <3×10-24 fusion n/s/dd pair respectively. The mechanisms responsible for correct timing of DNA synthesis within the cell cycle and for limiting replication to one round per cell cycle are basically similar in the two model yeasts, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe, despite many differences in detail. In both cases, the timing of initiation and the prevention of additional rounds are controlled by the activity levels of B-type cyclins. Mechanical testing and ultrasonic measurements were used to establish the properties of metamorphic rocks in different directions
of the foliation plane. Tests were undertaken on 42 mm diameter specimens cored at right angles to the foliation of gneissic
rocks from southwest Sweden. Ultrasonic and tensile testing was carried out in three diametral directions and the data for
each direction were compared. Coefficients, failure load anisotropy and velocity anisotropy were obtained. An anisotropy coefficient
of 3% was detected by ultrasonic measurements, while the Brazilian tests indicated 15%. The study has shown that an anisotropy

Three microparticle additives, tungsten (W), zirconium oxide (ZrO2) , and barium sulfate (BaSO4) were selected to enhance the radio‐opacity in shape memory polymer (SMP) foam biomaterials. The addition of filler causes no significant alterations of glass transition temperatures, density of the materials increases, pore diameter decreases, and total volume recovery decreases from approximately 70 times in unfilled foams to 20 times (4% W and 10% ZrO2). The addition of W increases time to recovery; ZrO2 causes little variation in time to shape recovery; BaSO4 increases the time to recovery. On a 2.00 mean X‐ray density (mean X.D.) scale, a GDC coil standard has a mean X.D. of 0.62 ; 4% W enhances the mean X.D. to 1.89, 10% ZrO2 to 1.39 and 4% BaSO4 to 0.74. The 6 km tunnel under the Namntall hill is a part of the Botniabanan railway project in northern Sweden. The tunnels were excavated by means of drilling and blasting and with, for Scandinavian conditions, a normal grouting routine. The grouting is performed to reduce water ingress into the tunnel to the level defined in the contract. When the water ingress requirements proved difficult to meet, it was obvious that the geological and the hydrogeological conditions in the tunnel would dictate the work processes. A distinctive change in rock conditions influenced both grouting performance and seepage into the tunnel. The rock conditions and the grouting were quantified throughout the project and these are summarized in this paper. It can be concluded that the strongest correlation is between the water ingress, the hydrogeological conditions and the density of the zones and the conditions in and around these zones. The paper suggests a different approach to hydrogeological prognosis and the grouting process, such as distribution of grouting classes, increased mixer capacities and regular use of two grouting rounds. 相似文献

In 1973, Oregon adopted a statewide comprehensive land use management program. It represents an important new approach in land use control and merits careful consideration and examination by land use analysts, policy makers, and the public. By providing statewide standards for land use planning and implementation carried out through an ongoing local administrative process, an important state land use management role has been established and, many argue, without a substantial erosion of local flexibility. Rural land use management, particularly farmland protection, is an important component of the Oregon program. The combination of state mandated, locally implemented urban growth boundary designations and exclusive farm use zoning represents a unique case in farmland protection policy. The performance of the program is evaluated, and economic trade-offs in the selection of minimum lot size standards are discussed. This program offers the promise of substantially improving rural land use management in Oregon at a modest cost to the public sector. 相似文献
