Heat Transport to the Wall of Packed Tubes. Radial conduction of heat in packed tubes has a crucial influence on yield and selectivity of many heterogeneously catalyzed reactions. In spite of many years of intensive research in the field, there are still tremendous discrepancies between correlations of different origin. Even the standard model using two constant heat transport parameters, which was introduced in the fifties and has since become most widely accepted, has been controversially discussed and called into question. The unsatisfactory state of the art has been an incentive for several groups of researchers to take up this old topic once again. Three parallel experimental investigations on heat transport with air flowing in packed tubes of similar dimensions, electrically heated, steam-heated, or water-cooled, were completed in 1991. Comparative evaluation of the results of these three investigations, together with other data from the relevant literature, now provides the first clear answers to some of the questions so controversially discussed in the past.  相似文献

In this paper, the feasibility of user-deployed femtocells in the same frequency band as an existing macrocell network is investigated. Key requirements for co-channel operation of femtocells such as auto-configuration and public access are discussed. Methods for femtocell power auto-configuration that ensure a constant cell radius in the downlink, and a low pre-definable interference impact on co-channel macrocells in the uplink are proposed. The theoretical performance of randomly deployed femtocells in such a hierarchical cell structure and the resulting impact on existing co-channel macrocells is analysed for a cellular UMTS network using system level simulations.  相似文献

The temperature distribution in spiral plate heat exchangers has been calculated numerically to obtain the efficiency and the logarithmic mean temperature difference (LMTD) correction factors F as a function of the number of transfer units N, the number of turns n, and the heat capacity rate ratio C. It has been found that the LMTD correction factors, when plotted against the number of transfer units per turn N/n, fall approximately on a single curve. That curve for balanced countercurrent operation (C = −1) can be very closely represented by the simple formula F = (n/N)tanh(N/n). From that simple analytic representation of our numerical results it was concluded that a simpler physical model might exist to represent the overall behaviour of a spiral plate heat exchanger equally well. In fact, a countercurrent cascade of n cocurrent heat exchangers does result exactly in the above-mentioned formula for the LMTD correction factor. From that model the F-factors for other heat capacity rate ratios C (−1 < C 0) can also be calculated and they are in sufficient agreement with the numerical results.  相似文献

Langasite (La3Ga5SiO14, LGS) and gallium orthophosphate (GaPO4) resonators exhibit piezoelectrically exited bulk acoustic waves at temperatures of up to at least 1400C and 900C, respectively. Their mass sensitivity at elevated temperatures has been found to be about as high as that of quartz at room temperature. Within its operation temperature range, GaPO4 shows significantly lower losses than LGS. Factors restricting application relevant properties of LGS at elevated temperatures, such as the mass resolution, include excessive viscous damping. Therefore, the effective viscosity is determined as a function of the temperature by fitting the calculated complex impedance to the experimental data in the vicinity of the resonance frequency. The viscosity shows an Arrhenius-like behavior if a temperature independent contribution is subtracted. The activation energies of the viscosity for LGS and GaPO4 correspond to those of the bulk electrical conductivity for each material. Viscosity and conductivity are obviously correlated. Therefore, it is highly likely that the predominant conductivity mechanism also controls the mechanical damping. First attempts to minimize the viscosity of LGS by doping are undertaken. Very light doping does, however, not change the conductivity and viscosity of LGS. Higher doping levels have to be applied and tested. Based on the electromechanical properties given for undoped LGS, the applicability of this material as resonant gas sensor at 600C is demonstrated.  相似文献

Reprogramming of metabolic pathways in monocytes and macrophages can induce a proatherosclerotic inflammatory memory called trained innate immunity. Here, we have analyzed the role of the Liver X receptor (LXR), a crucial regulator of metabolism and inflammation, in oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL)-induced trained innate immunity. Human monocytes were incubated with LXR agonists, antagonists, and oxLDL for 24 h. After five days of resting time, cells were restimulated with the TLR-2 agonist Pam3cys. OxLDL priming induced the expression of LXRα but not LXRβ. Pharmacologic LXR activation was enhanced, while LXR inhibition prevented the oxLDL-induced inflammatory response. Furthermore, LXR inhibition blocked the metabolic changes necessary for epigenetic reprogramming associated with trained immunity. In fact, enrichment of activating histone marks at the IL-6 and TNFα promotor was reduced following LXR inhibition. Based on the differential expression of the LXR isoforms, we inhibited LXRα and LXRβ genes using siRNA in THP1 cells. As expected, siRNA-mediated knock-down of LXRα blocked the oxLDL-induced inflammatory response, while knock-down of LXRβ had no effect. We demonstrate a specific and novel role of the LXRα isoform in the regulation of oxLDL-induced trained immunity. Our data reveal important aspects of LXR signaling in innate immunity with relevance to atherosclerosis formation.  相似文献

We use low pressure MOVPE to grow indium antimonide films on groups of eight 3 inch GaAs wafers per run. The films are used for the production of magnetoresistive position sensors for the car industry. To meet the narrow specifications for automotive components, the standard deviation of the sheet resistivity, and the thickness of the films have been reduced below 1.5%. This uniformity is the result of an optimization process encompassing the determination of the best susceptor temperature and the optimum flow. The gas velocity was found to have a large impact on the uniformity of the layers. Rotation of the wafers and the use of an optimum gas velocity results in extremely uniform layers.  相似文献

The steady-state free precessing (SSFP) sequences, widely used in MRI today, acquire data only during a short fraction of the repetition time (TR). Thus, they exhibit a poor scan efficiency. In this paper, a novel approach to extending the acquisition window for a given TR without considerably modifying the basic sequence is explored for radial SSFP sequences. The additional data are primarily employed to increase the signal-to-noise ratio, rather than to improve the temporal resolution of the imaging. The approach is analyzed regarding its effect on the image SNR (signal to noise ratio) and the reconstruction algorithm. Results are presented for phantom experiments and cardiac functions studies. The gain in SNR is most notable in rapid imaging, since SNR enhancement for a constant repetition time may be used to compensate for the increase in noise resulting from angular undersampling.  相似文献
