In the absence of adequate autogenous vein for tibial artery bypass in limb salvage surgery, the use of prosthetic grafts with a distal anastomotic vein cuff or patch has shown promising results. Here, we describe how the Florester Internal Vessel Occluder (Meadox UK, Bedfordshire, UK) can facilitate the construction of a distal anastomotic vein cuff.  相似文献

The development of a set of computational tools that permit microstructurally based predictions for the tensile properties of commercially important titanium alloys, such as Ti-6Al-4V, is a valuable step toward the accelerated maturation of materials. This paper will discuss the development of neural network models based on a Bayesian framework to predict the yield and ultimate tensile strengths of Ti-6Al-4V at room temperature. The development of such rules-based model requires the population of extensive databases, which in the present case are microstructurally based. The steps involved in database development include producing controlled variations of the microstructure using novel approaches to heat treatments, the use of standardized stereology protocols to characterize and quantify microstructural features rapidly, and mechanical testing of the heat-treated specimens. These databases have been used to train and test neural network models for prediction of tensile properties. In addition, these models have been used to identify the influence of individual microstructural features on the tensile properties, consequently guiding the efforts toward development of more robust mechanistically based models. Based on the neural network model, it is possible to investigate the influence of individual microstructural features on the tensile properties, and in certain cases these dependencies can point toward unrecognized phenomena. For example, the apparently unexpected trend of increase in tensile strength with increasing prior β-grain size has led to the determination of the pronounced role of the basketweave microstructure in strengthening these alloys, especially in case of larger prior β grains. Acidolysis reaction of sal fat (Shorea robusta) with palmitic acid has been studied in relation to the operating variables like catalyst system and concentration, reaction temperature and time and molar ratios of reactants with the object of introducing more palmitic acid which is low in sal fat. The results demonstrate that as low as 2.5% and as high as 39% palmitic acid can be introduced in sal fat at the expense of other acids under the influence of various operating conditions. The products obtained differ from original sal fat in respect of chemical composition and slip point. The importance of such study is that there are possibilities of getting plastic fats of diverse properties for edible and industrial uses.  相似文献

Polyaniline doped with nonoxidizing Bronsted acids is recognized as a conducting material, as its electrical conductivity changes with percentage of doping. In the present work, different percentages of doped polyaniline were blended with polyacrylamide and their electrical conductivities as well as the positron annihilation lifetimes were measured. Analysis of data yielded three lifetime components. It was observed that the value of the short lifetime component remained constant for doping concentration, whereas that of the intermediate component τ2 decreased. In this paper, optimal sets of filter coefficients are searched by a meta-heuristic optimization technique called Harmony Search (HS) algorithm for infinite impulse response (IIR) system identification problem. For different optimization problems, HS algorithm undergoes three basic rules; namely Random Selection (RS), Harmony Memory Consideration (HMC), and Pitch Adjustment (PA) rules, which are inspired from the process that the musicians use to improvise a perfect state of harmony with the consummate skill of blending notes in tune. With the help of the properly selected control parameters, a perfect balance is achieved in exploration and exploitation in searching phases. The detailed analysis of simulation results emphasizes the strength of HS algorithm to find the near-global optimal solution, quality of convergence profile and the speed of convergence while tested against standard benchmark examples for same and reduced order models.  相似文献

The rheological behavior of an aqueous solution of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and polypyrrole (PPY) dispersions prepared by ferric chloride (FeCl3)‐catalyzed polymerization of pyrrole was investigated at 12°C using a coaxial rotational viscometer. The results show that the addition of a low dose of FeCl3 to the PVA solution greatly influences its rheology. The prominent shear‐thickening (dilatant) nature of PVA turns significantly pseudoplastic (shear thinning) in the presence of FeCl3. Polypyrrole‐loaded PVA was obtained in a stable, optically clear dispersion by in situ polymerization of pyrrole in an aqueous PVA solution (5%) using FeCl3 as the oxidative catalyst at 12°C. The PPY dispersions in aqueous PVA systems having a low loading of PPY and low Fe+3 content retain the dilatant character of an aqueous PVA solution; however, for an aqueous PVA system having a relatively high PPY loading and also a high Fe+3 content, prominent pseudoplastic (shear thinning) behavior is exhibited. The odd novel rheological patterns exhibited by a PVA solution in the absence and presence of FeCl3 and the PVA–PPY dispersions containing FeCl3 under different sets of conditions are explained on the basis of the complexation of PVA by Fe+3 and related ions and also as a consequence of some degree of H‐bonding and chemical grafting between the support polymer PVA and the PPY formed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Epoxy resin is widely used for coatings, adhesives, castings, electrical insulation materials, and other applications. However, unsolved problems still remain in its applications. The main problem is low toughness: cured epoxy resin is rather brittle, with poor resistance to the propagation of cracks derived from the internal stress generated by shrinkage in the cooling process from cure temperature to room temperature. The objective of this study was to improve the flexibility and toughness of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A based epoxy resin with a liquid rubber. For this purpose, amine‐terminated polybutadiene (ATPB) was synthesized. The product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared and NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. ATPB‐modified epoxy networks were made by curing with an ambient‐temperature curing agent, triethylene tetramine. We varied the epoxy/liquid rubber compositions to study the effect of toughener concentration on the impact and thermal properties. In this paper, a new adaptive neuro controller for trajectory tracking is developed for robot manipulators without velocity measurements, taking into account the actuator constraints. The controller is based on structural knowledge of the dynamics of the robot and measurements of joint positions only. The system uncertainty, which may include payload variation, unknown nonlinearities and torque disturbances is estimated by a Chebyshev neural network (CNN). The adaptive controller represents an amalgamation of a filtering technique to generate pseudo filtered tracking error signals (for the elimination of velocity measurements) and the theory of function approximation using CNN. The proposed controller ensures the local asymptotic stability and the convergence of the position error to zero. The proposed controller is robust not only to structured uncertainty such as payload variation but also to unstructured one such as disturbances. Moreover the computational complexity of the proposed controller is reduced as compared to the multilayered neural network controller. The validity of the control scheme is shown by simulation results of a two-link robot manipulator. Simulation results are also provided to compare the proposed controller with a controller where velocity is estimated by finite difference methods using position measurements only.  相似文献
