Fine particles of cadmium carbonate (CdCO3) were prepared by heating aqueous solutions containing dissolved urea and cadmium sulfate at 85°C for 1 h. Effect of the composition of the reactant mixture on the morphology of the precipitated particles was investigated. It was found that the cadmium sulfate content of the reactant mixture significantly affected the shape and size of the precipitated particles. At certain range of reactant mixture composition, cauliflower-shaped uniform particles were obtained. The later particles were coated with basic copper carbonate (Cu2(OH)2CO3) by heating aqueous dispersions, containing CdCO3 particles, copper (II) nitrate, and urea at 85°C for various periods of time with constant stirring. The coating process was found sensitive to the experimental conditions and in most of the trials; mixtures of the coated and coating precursor particles were obtained. As such, extensive optimizations were carried out and conditions were established for the production of uniformly coated particles.On calcination at 700°C for 1 h, the CdCO3 particles converted into CdO, whereas the coated particles (CdCO3 (core)/Cu2(OH)2CO3 (coating) transformed into CdO(core)/CuO(coating)) without sintering. In the coated particles, the core and coating materials stayed mutually inert during the calcination reaction and independently converted into their respective oxides.All the calcined and uncalcined products were characterized by various physical and chemical methods.  相似文献

The authors have designed and constructed a plant-optimize synthetic gene encoding the Escherichia coli heat-labile enterotoxin B subunit (LT-B), for use in transgenic plants as an edible vaccine against enterotoxigenic E. coli. Expression of the synthetic LT-B gene in potato plants under the control of a constitutive promoter yielded increased accumulation of LT-B in leaves and tubers, as compared to the bacterial LT-B gene. The plant-derived LT-B assembled into native pentameric structures as evidenced by its ability to bind ganglioside. The authors demonstrated immunogenicity by feeding mice the raw tubers and comparing the anti-LT-B serum IgG and faecal IgA to that produced in mice gavaged with bacterial LT-B. Mice were fed three weekly doses of 5 g tuber tissue containing either 20 or 50 micrograms LT-B, or gavaged weekly with 5 micrograms of LT-B from recombinant E. coli. One week after the third dose, mice immunized with potato LT-B had higher levels of serum and mucosal anti-LT-B than those gavaged with bacterial LT-B. Mice were challenged by oral administration of 25 micrograms LT, and protection assessed by comparing the gut/carcass mass ratios. Although none of the mice were completely protected, the higher dose potato vaccine compared favourably with the bacterial vaccine. These findings show that an edible vaccine against E. coli LT-B is feasible.  相似文献

A series of polyurethane (PU) elastomers was prepared by the reaction of poly(?‐caprolactone) and 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate, which was extended with a series of chain extenders (CEs) having 2–10 methylene units in their structure. The completion of the reaction was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The chemical structures of the synthesized PU samples were characterized with Fourier transform infrared, 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR spectroscopy, and the thermal properties were determined by thermogravimetric analysis, DSC, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis techniques. The mechanical properties were also studied and are discussed. The thermogravimetric analysis and DSC analysis showed that CE length had a considerable effect on the thermal properties of the prepared samples. The dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and damping peaks were also affected by the number of methylene units in the CE length. The elastomer extended with 1,2‐ethane diol exhibited optimum thermal properties, whereas the elastomer based on 1,10‐decane diol displayed the worst thermal properties. Tensile strength and elongation at break decreased with increasing CE length, whereas hardness showed the opposite trend. The glass‐transition temperature moved toward lower temperatures with increasing CE length. The decrease in the glass‐transition temperature and tensile properties were interpreted in terms of decreasing hard segments and increasing chain flexibility. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The present paper deals with the formation of an optimal sequence of flow shop scheduling (FSS) for efficient operation. The primary concern of FSS is to obtain the optimal sequence, which minimises the idle time, tardiness, makespan, etc. Among these, the criteria of minimising the makespan plays a vital part. Thus, in this paper, the sequencing of the FSS for minimising the makespan is addressed. An effective hybrid has been formed with the metaheuristics, namely an ant system and a genetic algorithm (GA). A number of illustrative examples with different combinations of machines and jobs have been solved using the proposed hybrid method.  相似文献

The maximum exponentially weighted moving average (MaxEWMA) control charts have gained considerable attention for simultaneously detecting both increases and decreases in the mean and/or dispersion of a process. In this paper, we propose a new auxiliary information‐based (AIB) MaxEWMA control chart, called the AIB‐MaxEWMA chart. The AIB‐MaxEWMA chart encompasses the existing MaxEWMA chart. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations are performed to evaluate the average run length, standard deviation of the run length, and diagnostic abilities of the AIB‐MaxEWMA chart. An extensive comparison reveals that the AIB‐MaxEWMA chart performs uniformly better than the MaxEWMA chart. Plant diseases cause substantial loss to crops all over the world, reducing the quality and quantity of agricultural goods significantly. One of the world’s most damaging plant diseases, rice blast poses a substantial threat to global food security. Magnaporthe oryzae causes rice blast disease, which challenges world food security by causing substantial damage in rice production annually. Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved breakdown and recycling system in eukaryotes that regulate homeostasis, stress adaption, and programmed cell death. Recently, new studies found that the autophagy process plays a vital role in the pathogenicity of M. oryzae and the regulation mechanisms are gradually clarified. Here we present a brief summary of the recent advances, concentrating on the new findings of autophagy regulation mechanisms and summarize some autophagy-related techniques in rice blast fungus. This review will help readers to better understand the relationship between autophagy and the virulence of plant pathogenic fungi.  相似文献

An efficient and robust numerical scheme based on Haar wavelets and finite differences is suggested for the solution of two-dimensional time dependent linear and nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs). Excellent feature of the scheme is the conversion of linear and non-linear PDEs to algebraic equations which are comparatively easy to handle. Convergence of the scheme, which guarantees small error norm as the resolution level increases, is also an important part of this work. Different error norms are computed to check efficiency of the technique. Computations verify accuracy, flexibility and low computational cost of the method.  相似文献

This article describes the preparation and characterization of composites containing poly(ethylene-co-butyl acrylate) (EBA–13 and EBA–28 with 13 and 28 wt % butyl acrylate, respectively) and 2–12 wt % (0.5–3 vol %) of aluminum oxide nanoparticles (two types differing in specific surface area and hydroxyl-group concentration; uncoated and coated with, respectively, octyltriethoxysilane and aminopropyltriethoxysilane). A greater surface coverage was obtained with aminopropyltriethoxysilane than with octyltriethoxysilane. An overall good dispersion was obtained in the EBA-13 composites prepared by extrusion compounding. Composites with octyltriethoxysilane-coated nanoparticles showed the best dispersion. The addition of the nanoparticles to EBA–28 resulted in poor dispersion, probably due to insufficiently high shear forces acting during extrusion mixing which were unable to break down nanoparticle agglomerates. The nanoparticles had no effect on the crystallization kinetics in the EBA–13 composites, but in the EBA–28 composites the presence of the nanoparticles led to an increase in the crystallization peak temperature, suggesting that the nanoparticles had a nucleating effect in this particular polymer. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
