In recent years, computer technology has made remarkable progress and a computer has become an indispensable tool for both engineers and scientists. In this article, utilization of computers in welding research is briefly summarized. Their use in numerical analysis is particularly discussed and applied to physical phenomena in molten pool, hydrogen diffusion and residual stresses due to welding. Optimal control (OC) methodology is used to develop a control policy for a batch-operated solar sludge dryer with ventilation as the dominant control. Batch performance criteria and instantaneous optimization criteria are developed for two economic environments: quota limited and capital limited. The general formulation, as well as simplifications resulting from the multiplicative form of the evaporation (drying) rate model, are presented. The multiplicative form results in a single constant number, called here “control intensity,” which is used to guide the on-line control decisions. These decisions turn out to be independent of the dry solids content (DSC) of the sludge. Further simplification, by assuming a strictly constant weather, is used to demonstrate the general effects of the economic and physical (weather) environment on the solution.
The OC approach is used to address, via simulation under realistic weather conditions, several design, operation, and pricing problems. In particular, the following have been considered: sizing of the ventilation fans, determination of a fair fee for sludge disposal, finding the best final DSC, and evaluating the effect of the price of electricity. Regarding the particular location represented by the data, it has been shown that the installed capacity of the ventilation fans should be increased and that there seems to be sufficient economic incentive for solar drying. 相似文献

We proposed a new method (;linearized method') to analyze neuroleptic ligand-receptor specific binding in a human brain using positron emission tomography (PET). We derived the linear equation to solve four rate constants, k(3), k(4), k(5), k(6) from PET data. This method does not demand a radioactivity curve in plasma as an input function to the brain, and can perform fast calculations in order to determine rate constants. We also tested the nonlinearized method including nonlinear equations which is a conventional analysis using plasma radioactivity corrected for ligand metabolites as an input function. We applied these methods to evaluate dopamine D(2) receptor specific binding of [(11)C] YM-09151-2. The value of B(max)/K(d)=k(3)/k (4) obtained by the linearized method was 5.72+/-3.1 which was consistent with the value of 5.78+/-3.4 obtained by the nonlinearized method. 相似文献

A novel travelling-wave electroabsorption optical modulator, electrically matched for 50 /spl Omega/ loads of driving circuit drivers, was developed. The scattering parameter of electric reflection (S/sub 11/) from this modulator is less than -20 dB at 20 GHz. The antioxidative effects of vegetable extracts were evaluated using linoleic acid emulsion and liposomal phospholipid suspension systems. First, the antioxidative activities of water, ethanol and 2% metaphosphoric acid extracts of the vegetables were investigated by measuring the rate of oxygen consumption in the peroxidation of linoleic acid initiated by a radical generator, 2,2′-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH), with a Clark electrode in the absence of metal chelators. Ethanol extracts of moroheiya and perilla exhibited the highest antioxidative activities. Without metal chelators, 12 ethanol extracts and one water extract acted as prooxidants, and this phenomenon could be attributed to the prooxidant action of ascorbic acid in the presence of free transition metal ions. Next, peroxyl radical-scavenging activities of vegetable extracts were examined by adding a metal chelator, diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), to the linoleic acid emulsion system. The results were compared with their antioxidative activities in phospholipid bilayers by measuring the inhibition of lipid peroxidation in large unilamellar vesicles composed of egg yolk phosphatidylcholine (PC). A good correlation was observed between the antioxidative activities obtained from these two systems. The antioxidative activities in the liposomal phospholipid suspension system correlated with total contents of ascorbic acid and polyphenols in vegetable extracts. © 1999 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

A highly sensitive and uncomplicated method of analyzing steroidal hormones in river and estuarine water samples was developed using a liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometer equipped with an electrospray ionization (ESI) source and atmospheric pressure photoionization (APPI) source. Steroidal hormones included not only estrogen but also androgen and conjugates of these two. APPI displayed greater sensitivity than ESI for most of the unconjugated steroids examined, with very high sensitivity for testosterone and 4-androstene-3,17-dione in particular. For conjugated hormones, in contrast, ESI was more effective. The method developed was applied to the determination of hormones in the rivers of Osaka City and their estuaries, where the hormones detected were affected by the effluent from municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), and hormone concentration values were comparable to those reported in previous studies of such effluent. Because of the two-way flow and stagnancy of streams and watercourses, continuous input of steroidal hormones from WWTPs seems to bring about local accumulation. Levels of androgen were 1 order of magnitude lower than those of estrogen. Estrone, estrone 3-sulfate, and 4-androstene-3,17-dione were detected in almost all water samples, with maxima of 51, 5.1, and 6.4 ng L(-1), respectively. 相似文献

Laboratory and field measurements were conducted to examine dry deposition of SO2 onto Chinese loess surfaces using native soil sampled in the loess plateau, China. The field tests were employed in Beijing and Lanzhou, China, by directly measuring the dry deposition of SO2 on soil, which uses soil put on a collector as an SO2 passive sampling medium. In the laboratory, a high rate of uptake to SO2 deposition for Chinese soil surfaces due to the highly alkalinity was found. The uptake of SO2 deposition was dependent on the pH soil and relative humidity. Furthermore, we evaluated some factors that affect the measurement precision: response of SO2 uptake, repeatability, recovery factor, and variability associated with the weight and the surface coverage on the collectors. As a result, it was shown that the measurement precision was primarily related to the ratio of the SO2 deposition amount relative to the sulfur content of the original soil. This result was consistent with the field observations. The laboratory and field results indicated an excellent agreement on the SO2 uptake inherent in the results from the soil surfaces in different regions. 相似文献

This paper describes the formation of a third liquid phase in a phase transfer catalytic system in the presence of benzyl alcohol and potassium hydroxide, where dodecane and tetraalkylammonium bromide serve as organic solvent and catalyst, respectively. In this kind of system, a symmetrical ether (dibenzyl ether) was synthesized from benzyl chloride and benzyl alcohol at 323 K. In particular, the investigation demonstrates that the observed reaction rate constant depends on the length of the alkyl group of the catalyst. Tetrabutylammonium bromide exhibits the highest catalytic activity among the catalysts explored. With respect to the reuse of the third liquid phase, the results confirm that there is no decrease in phase transfer catalytic activity in three consecutive runs. 相似文献

Efficient solar drying requires that the drying rate is quantitatively known as a function of the environment and the control. To develop a drying-rate model for wastewater sludge, data were collected at a solar drying installation in Füssen, Germany. In this solar dryer, wet sludge is uniformly spread over a concrete floor under a greenhouse-like transparent cover. The sludge is mixed mechanically several times a day by an autonomous robot (electric mole®), the structure is fan-ventilated horizontally, and the indoor air is mixed by electric fans. Data of evaporation rate, environmental conditions, and control operations were collected over three drying cycles. Evaporation rate via sludge sampling and via vapor balance across the structure compared favorably, justifying the use of hourly vapor-balance data. Four types of prediction models were considered: physical, additive, multiplicative, and neural network. The multiplicative model has been selected for potential implementation. The most important predictors of evaporation rate, for the conditions under consideration, were (1) solar radiation, (2) outdoor temperature, (3) ventilation rate, and (4) dry solids content of the sludge.
