The cooling power of aqueous solutions of ethylene oxide-propylene oxide copolymers are studied with a silver standard sample by using two apparatuses quench with injection and quench with agitation. For temperature T>400°C, the viscosity plays the predominant role; for T<400°C, the cooling is controlled by the polymer precipitation and the cooling rate decreases by lowering the cloud point of the polymer solution. This work demonstrates the possibility of adjusting the cooling curves by taking into account the thermodynamical properties of the polymer.  相似文献

Discusses the nature of autonomy and explores how autonomy as a therapeutic goal relates to clinical practice and the conduct of psychotherapy. Autonomy has been defined as the power to determine one's own best interests, and it has been criticized for promoting selfishness and reflecting upper-class values and gender bias. It is suggested that issues of autonomy are involved in the process of psychotherapy as well as its aim. In therapy, there is a dynamic tension between the principle of autonomy, the right of clients to determine their own interests, and the principle of beneficence, the therapist's obligation to protect the client's welfare. Whether autonomy is an appropriate ideal in psychotherapy for women or for men is considered. Feminist theorists have criticized aspects of masculine autonomy, contrasting it with feminine relatedness; however, the idealization of relatedness is questioned. It is concluded that the present conceptualizations of autonomy do not fully encompass the complexity of human interaction. It is argued that (a) autonomy and relatedness are not essential aspects of male and female nature but depend on power and status and (b) without social change, autonomy may not be a realistic goal of therapy for women. In case of an incident in the nuclear industry or an act of war or terrorism, the dissemination of plutonium could contaminate the environment and, hence, humans. Human contamination mainly occurs via inhalation and/or wounding (and, less likely, ingestion). In such cases, plutonium, if soluble, reaches circulation, whereas the poorly soluble fraction (such as small colloids) is trapped in alveolar macrophages or remains at the site of wounding. Once in the blood, the plutonium is delivered to the liver and/or to the bone, particularly into its mineral part, mostly composed of hydroxyapatite. Countermeasures against plutonium exist and consist of intravenous injections or inhalation of diethylenetetraminepentaacetate salts. Their effectiveness is, however, mainly confined to the circulating soluble forms of plutonium. Furthermore, the short bioavailability of diethylenetetraminepentaacetate results in its rapid elimination. To overcome these limitations and to provide a complementary approach to this common therapy, we developed polymeric analogs to indirectly target the problematic retention sites. We present herein a first study regarding the decontamination abilities of polyethyleneimine methylcarboxylate (structural diethylenetetraminepentaacetate polymer analog) and polyethyleneimine methylphosphonate (phosphonate polymeric analog) directed against Th(IV), used here as a Pu(IV) surrogate, which was incorporated into hydroxyapatite used as a bone model. Our results suggest that polyethylenimine methylphosphonate could be a good candidate for powerful bone decontamination action.  相似文献

A quantitative method was developed for the assay of vitamin K in human colostrum and milk. The procedure combines preparative and analytical chromatography on silica gel in a nitrogen atmosphere followed by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Two HPLC steps were used: gradient separation with ultraviolet (UV) detection followed by isocratic separation detected electrochemically. Due to co-migrating impurities, UV detection alone is insufficient for identification of vitamin K. Exogenous vitamin K was shown to equilibrate with endogenous vitamin K in the samples. A statistical method was incorporated to control for experimental variability. Vitamin K1 was analyzed in 16 pooled milk samples from 7 donors and in individual samples from 15 donors at 1 month post-partrum. Vitamin K1 was present at 2.94±1.94 and 3.15±2.87 ng/mL in pools and in individuals, respectively. Menaquinones, the bacterial form of the vitamin, were not detected. The significance of experimental variation to studies of vitamin K in individuals is discussed.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of a systematic study of the effect of different additives on the degradation of acrylamide–acrylic acid copolymers at high temperature. Under conditions of current applications in enhanced oil recovery (without oxygen and in the presence of ferrous ions), the effects of sodium azide, sequestrant DTPA, and isobutanol have been separately tested. It is shown that DTPA enhances degradation when ferrous ions are present. A new process of stabilization which may be efficient in most of the conditions is proposed.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of error-resilient decoding of bitstreams produced by the CABAC (context-based adaptive binary arithmetic coding) algorithm used in the H.264 video coding standard. The paper describes a maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation algorithm improving the CABAC decoding performances in the presence of transmission errors. Methods improving the re-synchronization and error detection capabilities of the decoder are then described. A variant of the CABAC algorithm supporting error detection based on a forbidden interval is presented. The performances of the decoding algorithm are first assessed with theoretical sources and by considering different binarization codes. They are compared against those obtained with Exp-Golomb codes and with a transmission chain making use of an error-correcting code. The approach has been integrated in an H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video coder and decoder. The PSNR gains obtained are discussed.  相似文献

Protein nanomaterials at the peptide level have shown great potential for medical applications. Peptides change their morphological conformation because of changes in self-assembly properties when they are exposed to changes in solvent composition or pH. Two 15-residue peptide sequences, KhK (KKKFLIVIGSIIKKK) and Alternating Kh (KFLKKIVKIGKKSII), were designed for the purpose of determining the role of peptide sequence on solution morphology and conformation. KhK solutions exhibited a random coil to helical transition when solvent conditions were changed from water to a trifluorethanol/water solution at acidic pH. Alternating Kh solutions, however, demonstrated primarily random coil character under similar solvent and pH conditions as determined by circular dichroism spectroscopy and 2D-1H-1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. At basic pH, circular dichroism spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy analysis demonstrated that random coil character increased at basic pH for KhK, whereas Alternating Kh exhibited an increase in beta-sheet character. Further analysis by transmission electron microscopy showed marked differences in the peptide solution morphology. Peptide particle aggregation and fiber formation were significantly affected by solvent composition and pH values for both peptide sequences.  相似文献

Plasticized poly(l-lactide) (PLA) montmorillonite layered silicate (MLS) nanocomposites were compounded and blown-film processed using a co-rotating twin screw extruder. PLA was mixed with 10 wt% acetyltriethyl citrate ester plasticizer and 5 wt% of an organically modified montmorillonite at various screw speeds. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) determined that the compounded pellets and the blown film PLA/MLS nanocomposites were intercalated. The effect of processing screw speeds on the barrier, thermal, mechanical, and biodegradation properties of the nanocomposites were analyzed and compared to the neat polymer. Nanocomposite films show a 48% improvement in oxygen barrier and a 50% improvement in water vapor barrier in comparison to the neat PLA. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed an overall 9 °C increase in the decomposition temperature for all of the nanocomposites. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) has determined that the glass transition, cold crystallization and melting point temperatures were not significantly influenced by the presence of MLS. Mechanical properties of the nanocomposites showed that the Young's modulus increased by 20% and the ultimate elongation of the nanocomposites were not sacrificed in comparison to the neat samples. Biodegradation rates in soil were slightly greater for the PLA/MLS nanocomposite than the pure PLA. However, none of the PLA pure and nanocomposites achieved significant biodegradation levels after 180 days.  相似文献

G. Stanley Hall influenced several social movements that had great implications for child wellbeing: the Child Study, Parent Education, and Child Welfare Movements. However, while Hall laid much of the foundation for the field of scientific child study and policy-relevant research, his legacy is virtually nonexistent. The current article reviews the life and contributions of G. Stanley Hall, and the dual role Hall played in history as a revered leader of the Child Study Movement and a controversial figure in the landscape of early child psychology.
