Surface segregation of various impurities such as Mg, Si, Ca, Al and Cr were determined for the haematite phase (Fe2O3) annealed in two different gas compositions involving (1) air at 1173 K, and (2) a gas mixture containing sulphur at 773 K. The objective of work was to establish the effect of the gas-phase composition on segregation of lattice defects. The near-surface segregation profiles of the impurities were determined by secondary ion mass spectrometry. The depth profile analysis was made by sputtering using an Ar+ primary beam of energy 30 keV. The surface charge was neutralized by an electron gun. It was found that annealing Fe2O3 under a gas phase containing sulphur resulted in the formation of an Fe(SO4)3 surface layer. It was observed that the two surface treatment procedures applied (both with and without sulphur) result in Mg enrichment in the near-surface region of Fe2O3. Si and Ca exhibit an enrichment and impoverishment after the surface treatments 1 and 2, respectively. Finally, the near-surface layer is impoverished in Cr and Al after both types of surface treatment. Experimental results are discussed in terms of segregation driving forces of the respective elements and the possible effect of sulphur on the gas-solid heterogeneous kinetics.  相似文献

System development is strongly influenced by the perspectives used by system developers. Current development methods for knowledge-based systems are based on an information processing perspectives of experts and users which has been criticized by a number of researchers. The paper argues that work-oriented development of knowledge-based systems requires the parallel use of multiple perspectives (including the information processing perspective), and that the use of any single perspective is potentially dangerous. As an example of the importance of using multiple perspectives, thepaper presents the situated action perspective, and shows how it complements the information processing perspective.  相似文献

Materials for ophthalmic coatings in PVD – coating equipments In our days we cannot have an isolated view only at the coatings for organic lenses. We need to analyse the interaction of substrates, hardcoats and layerdesigns to deliver a longlife – quality of the complete complex “eyeglases”. Special in the field of organic substrates we could observe in the last years an enormous change. The push to deliver more and more thinner and lighter lenses, produces materials with higher indices. The result from this problem is not the adaptation of the antireflection desin at the substrate index but the adaption at the mechanical and thermal properties of these substrates. The caoting labs influence at the complete system is more or less reduced only by the antireflection system. The substrate‐ and hardcoat material could be influenced only by the “world player” for ophthalmic systems. All the small and middle size coating labs worldwide must buy the substrates‐ and the hardcoat materials and have to accept the quality. The only exertion of influence is in the selection of film materials for the AR‐coating and the process technology. The right choise of coating material in quality, form and costs is crucial for a high quality AR‐ coating. A multitude of factors must be considered for the selection of the adequate material.  相似文献

S1 serine proteases are by far the largest and most diverse family of proteases encoded in the human genome. Although recent decades have seen an enormous increase in our knowledge, the biological functions of most of these proteases remain to be elucidated. Chemical inhibitors have proven to be versatile tools for studying the functions of proteases, but this approach is hampered by the limited availability of inhibitor scaffold structures with the potential to allow rapid discovery of selective, noncovalent small‐molecule protease inhibitors. The natural product class of Ahp cyclodepsipeptides is an unusual class of small‐molecule canonical inhibitors; the incorporation of protease cleavage sequences into their molecular scaffolds enables the design of specific small‐molecule inhibitors that simultaneously target the S and S′ subsites of the protease through noncovalent mechanisms. Their synthesis is tedious, however, so in this study we have investigated the relevance of the Ahp moiety for achieving potent inhibition. We found that although the Ahp residue plays an important role in inhibition potency, appropriate replacement with β‐hydroxy amino acids results in structurally less complex derivatives that inhibit serine proteases in the low micromolar range.  相似文献

This article sets out to evaluate the effect of solvent content in the extractive section on the separation efficiency and energy consumption of extractive distillation columns. Contrary to the classical approach, the proposed approach enables a simultaneous evaluation of the effect of the major decision variables (reflux ratio, solvent flow rate, and the number of stages of the extractive section [NSE]). The procedure allows calculating the minimum solvent flow rate for the separation and the minimum specific energy consumption. The results show that the minimum specific energy consumption is obtained for the minimum reflux ratio and not for the minimum solvent flow rate. Moreover, the results show that it is not always the case that a larger NSE results in lower energy consumption. Due to its industrial importance, the dehydration of aqueous mixtures of ethanol using ethylene glycol as solvent has been chosen as a case study.  相似文献

Reduced tillage (RT) agriculture is an effective measure to reduce soil loss from soils susceptible to erosion in the short-term and is claimed to increase the soil organic carbon (SOC) stock. The change in distribution and total SOC stock in the 0–60 cm layer, the stratification of microbial biomass carbon (MB-C) content in the 0–40 cm layer and the carbon (C) mineralization in the upper 0–5 cm layer in silt loam soils in Western Europe with different periods of RT agriculture were evaluated. Ten fields at seven locations, representing the important RT types and maintained for a different number of years, and eight fields under conventional tillage (CT) agriculture with similar soil type and crop rotation were selected. RT agriculture resulted in a higher stratification of SOC in the soil profile than CT agriculture. However, the total SOC stock in the 0–60 cm layer was not changed, even after 20 of years RT agriculture. The MB-C was significantly higher in the 0–10 cm layer under RT agriculture, even after only 5 years, compared to CT agriculture. The higher SOC and MB-C content in the upper 0–5 cm layer of RT fields resulted in a higher C mineralization rate in undisturbed soil in the laboratory. Simulating ploughing by disturbing the soil resulted in inconsistent changes (both lower and higher) of C mineralization rates. A crop rotation with root crops, with heavy soil disturbance every 2 or 3 years at harvest, possibly limited the anticipated positive effect of RT agriculture in our research.  相似文献

Over the last decades, the incorporation of membranes into micro physiological systems used for pharmaceutical research and drug development has grown significantly. One example is the use of microporous track-etched membranes in microfluidic systems like organs-on-a-chip and cell culture inserts for tissue engineering. Tissue-culture treated track-etched membranes serve as excellent support for cell growth and efficient nutrient supply, with the added benefit of precise control of pore parameters, a critical pre-requisite to achieve reproducible results. Here, we provide an overview of track-etched membrane technology in the context of applications in drug discovery and development.  相似文献

Breast cancer is the commonest malignancy to affect women. The malignant process may present clinicians with problems in establishing the diagnosis expeditiously, accurately staging the disease and assessing tumour response to primary systemic chemotherapy. Considerable recent interest has focused on the application of imaging techniques that utilize tumour-specific gamma-ray-emitting radiopharmaceuticals to resolve these problems. The wide availability of gamma camera systems makes single photon-imaging techniques, using radiopharmaceuticals incorporating conventional isotopes, attractive options. However, results concerning the detection of the primary breast cancer and the staging of axillary lymph nodes suggest that these techniques would appear to offer no significant advantages, when compared with those obtained using standard diagnostic methods. Dual gamma-ray-emission imaging by positron emission tomography (PET) may offer an alternative solution. Studies performed show that PET can accurately detect primary breast cancers, stage locoregional lymph nodes and visualize distant tumour metastases. Furthermore, PET may be able to monitor early tumour response to chemotherapy agents. It would appear, therefore, that dual gamma emission might have an important role to play in the management of patients with breast cancer.  相似文献
