Gesture plays an important role for recognizing lecture activities in video content analysis. In this paper, we propose a real-time gesture detection algorithm by integrating cues from visual, speech and electronic slides. In contrast to the conventional “complete gesture” recognition, we emphasize detection by the prediction from “incomplete gesture”. Specifically, intentional gestures are predicted by the modified hidden Markov model (HMM) which can recognize incomplete gestures before the whole gesture paths are observed. The multimodal correspondence between speech and gesture is exploited to increase the accuracy and responsiveness of gesture detection. In lecture presentation, this algorithm enables the on-the-fly editing of lecture slides by simulating appropriate camera motion to highlight the intention and flow of lecturing. We develop a real-time application, namely simulated smartboard, and demonstrate the feasibility of our prediction algorithm using hand gesture and laser pen with simple setup without involving expensive hardware.   相似文献

A Hammerstein-based dynamic model for hysteresis phenomenon   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The Hammerstein configuration, which includes a nonlinear static block followed by a linear dynamic block, is applied to model the rate-dependent and temperature-dependent hysteresis phenomenon. The nonlinear static block is realized by a modified Preisach model, which includes both the irreversible and reversible components of magnetization. The linear dynamic block is realized by a low-pass filter, which takes into account the rate-dependent effects of hysteresis. Temperature dependencies are incorporated into the model by fitting the model parameters as piecewise-linear functions of temperature. A procedure is described for the extraction of a single set of model parameters over the frequency, amplitude, and temperature ranges of interest. The theory is verified experimentally  相似文献

A multiserver queueing model of access control strategies for a wideband integrated services digital network (ISDN) is considered. There are two types of service requests (SRs): Type 1 SR requires b servers (basic bandwidth units, BBUs) of the c available servers, while Type 2 SR requires a single server. Both types of SRs are queuable in two separate infinite-size buffers. A Type 1 SR is allowed to seize d(⩽b) servers at first and then acquire additional servers as they become available to meet the original requirement of b servers. The arrival processes of both types of SRs are Poisson and the service times are exponentially distributed with mean b/dμ1 and 1/μ2 for Type 1 SR and Type 2 SR, respectively. Preemptive and nonpreemptive priority disciplines with movable boundary are analyzed using the Neuts' matrix-analytic approach. Numerical examples of the queue length distribution and the mean waiting time of the SRs are presented  相似文献

In a placebo-controlled, double-blind randomized design, we investigated the cardiovascular interaction between caffeine (250 mg intravenously) and nicotine (4 mg chewing gum) in 10 healthy volunteers, both under baseline conditions and during physical and mental stress (standing up and mental arithmetic). Caffeine alone induced a significant increase in blood pressure associated with a decrease in heart rate, whereas nicotine alone increased both blood pressure and heart rate. The combination of caffeine and nicotine increased systolic and diastolic blood pressure by 10.8 +/- 2.0 and 12.4 +/- 1.9 mm Hg, respectively. This pressor response did not differ significantly from the calculated additive effects of caffeine and nicotine on blood pressure, measuring 12.9 +/- 2.0 and 14.2 +/- 2.1 mm Hg, respectively. Heart rate and forearm blood flow also showed a similar response when the combination of caffeine and nicotine was compared with the calculated sum. During physical stress (standing up), blood pressure, heart rate, and plasma catecholamines increased in the placebo test. The pressor response to standing up was less pronounced after the combination of caffeine and nicotine compared with the sum of the separate effects (combination versus sum: delta diastolic blood pressure, 24.7 +/- 1.9 versus 35.2 +/- 2.6 mm Hg [p < 0.01]; delta mean arterial pressure, 22.1 +/- 2.0 mm Hg versus 28.6 +/- 1.6 mm Hg [p < 0.05]). The plasma catecholamine response did not differ between the combination and the sum of both drugs. During mental arithmetic, blood pressure, heart rate, and forearm blood flow increased in the placebo test. The forearm vasodilator response to mental stress was attenuated by the combination of caffeine and nicotine compared with the sum of both drugs (combination versus sum: delta forearm blood flow, -0.1 +/- 0.3 versus 1.4 +/- 0.5 ml/100 ml/min [p < 0.05]). We conclude that the combined administration of caffeine and nicotine shows additive effects on cardiovascular parameters during baseline conditions but less than additive effects during sympathoadrenal stimulation.  相似文献

A 28 mW/MHz at 80 MHz structured-custom RISC microprocessor design is described. This 32-b implementation of the PowerPC architecture is fabricated in a 3.3 V, 0.5 μm, 4-level metal CMOS technology, resulting in 1.6 million transistors in a 7.4 mm by 11.5 mm chip size. Dual 8-kilobyte instruction and data caches coupled to a high performance 32/64-b system bus and separate execution units (float, integer, loadstore, and system units) result in peak instruction rates of three instructions per clock cycle. Low-power design techniques are used throughout the entire design, including dynamically powered down execution units. Typical power dissipation is kept under 2.2 W at 80 MHz. Three distinct levels of software-programmable, static, low-power operation-for system power management are offered, resulting in standby power dissipation from 2 mW to 350 mW. CPU to bus clock ratios of 1×, 2×, 3×, and 4× are implemented to allow control of system power while maintaining processor performance. This paper describes the concept, analysis, fabrication, and testing of a new anchor for surface-micromachined beams. The anchor is designed to eliminate the extra spring effect at the step-up anchor common in conventional surface-micromachined beams, so that the boundary condition follows the ideal anchoring condition more accurately. The idea is to form a reinforcement hump at the beam anchor through a minor modification in the sacrificial-layer mask. No modification in the fabrication process is necessary. Formation of the reinforcement hump is tested using the multiuser MEMS Process (MUMP) foundry service at the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina (MCNC). The effectiveness of the new anchor is analyzed by finite-element analysis based on the actual anchor geometry obtained from the fabrication directly. Experimental verification is provided by making overhanging microcantilever pairs, one with the new anchor and the other with conventional, through MUMP's and postprocessing and comparing their frequency responses. Small-signal frequency response measurements are made with a modified Michaelson interferometer. Resonant frequency of a 2-μm-thick 300-μm-long polysilicon cantilever with the new anchor differed by less than 0.1% from the ideal anchor case. A novel fucosyltransferase (cFTase) activity has been enriched over 10(6)-fold from the cytosolic compartment of Dictyostelium based on transfer of [3H]fucose from GDP-[3H]fucose to Galbeta1,3 GlcNAc beta-paranitrophenyl (paranitrophenyl-lacto-N-bioside or pNP-LNB). The activity behaved as a single component during purification over DEAE-, phenyl-, Reactive Blue-4-, GDP-adipate-, GDP-hexanolamine-, and Superdex gel filtration resins. The purified activity possessed an apparent Mr of 95 X 10(3), was Mg2+-dependent with a neutral pH optimum, and exhibited a Km for GDP-fucose of 0.34 microM, a Km for pNP-LNB of 0.6 mM, and a Vmax for pN-P-LNB of 620 nmol/min/mg protein. SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis of the Superdex elution profile identified a polypeptide with an apparent Mr of 85 X 10(3), which coeluted with the cFTase activity and could be specifically photolabeled with the donor substrate inhibitor GDP-hexanolaminyl-azido-125I-salicylate. Based on substrate analogue studies, exoglycosidase digestions, and co-chromatography with fucosylated standards, the product of the reaction with pNP-LNB was Fucalpha1, 2Galbeta1,3GIcNAcbeta-pNP. The cFTase preferred substrates with a Galbeta1,3linkage, and thus its acceptor substrate specificity resembles the human Secretor-type alpha1,2- FTase. Afucosyl isoforms of the FP21 glycoprotein, GP21-I and GP21-II, were purified from the cytosol of a Dictyostelium mutant and found to be substrates for the cFTase, which exhibited an apparent K(m) of 0.21 microM and an apparent V(max) of 460 nmol/min/mg protein toward GP21-II. The highly purified cFTase was inhibited by the reaction products Fucalpha1,2Galbeta1,3GlcNAcbeta-pNP and FP21-II. FP21-I and recombinant FP21 were not inhibitory, suggesting that acceptor substrate specificity is based primarily on carbohydrate recognition. A cytosolic location for this step of FP21 glycosylation is implied by the isolation of the cFTase from the cytosolic fraction, its high affinity for its substrates, and its failure to be detected in crude membrane preparations.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a performance analysis of a coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing DAB system that is power multiplexed over a commercial FM station. We model the mobile channel with a time-frequency scattering function. Results show that the performance of the FM demodulator is crucial, since the level of the residual FM signal has a strong influence on the BER performance of the COFDM system.
