This study aimed to examine the functional coupling between midbrain raphe and the septohippocampal system at the level of neuronal firing. Raphe unit activity and hippocampal EEG were simultaneously recorded in urethane-anaesthetized rats and their relationship was examined in the frequency domain. Subsets of presumably non-serotonergic neurones in both the dorsal and median raphe nuclei fired rhythmically in synchrony with hippocampal theta activity. Theta cells in the median raphe showed higher coherence than those in dorsal raphe and formed a more homogeneous group of cells, according to their firing rates. Since the raphe-septal serotonergic system is known to desynchronize the hippocampal EEG, activation of a subset of nonserotonergic cells during theta in this nucleus indicates a feedback from the limbic circuitry on the ascending raphe control of forebrain activity.  相似文献

The thermal and rheological behaviors of cyclic butylene terephthalate (CBT) were studied with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and plate–plate rheometry, respectively. DSC scans were taken at different heating rates. The related first‐heat thermograms indicated crystallization and melting of the resulting poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBT) only at very low heating rate (0.5°C/min). As the crystallization and melting enthalpies were closely matched, one could conclude that the polymerization is essentially athermic. The polymerization was accompanied by a steep increase of the melt viscosity in isothermal rheological tests performed in the temperature range T = 145–210°C. Changes in the viscoelasticity of the polymerizing CBT and crystallizing PBT could be best followed by considering the changes in the phase angle. Eighty-seven pet dogs (Canis familiaris) were involved in an experiment in which they had to solve a task to obtain a ball. After witnessing a full demonstration by their owner (10 times pushing the handle of the box, which released a ball), most dogs preferred to touch the handle sooner and more frequently in comparison with other parts of the box, and they used the handle to get the ball. In contrast dogs in 3 control groups developed their own respective methods. The lack of emergence of the ball and playing after the demonstration did not affect the learning performance strongly. This suggests that in dogs the outcome of a demonstration plays only a restricted role in the manifestation of social learning. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Dogs' (Canis familiaris) and cats' (Felis catus) interspecific communicative behavior toward humans was investigated. In Experiment 1, the ability of dogs and cats to use human pointing gestures in an object-choice task was compared using 4 types of pointing cues differing in distance between the signaled object and the end of the fingertip and in visibility duration of the given signal. Using these gestures, both dogs and cats were able to find the hidden food; there was no significant difference in their performance. In Experiment 2, the hidden food was made inaccessible to the subjects to determine whether they could indicate the place of the hidden food to a naive owner. Cats lacked some components of attention-getting behavior compared with dogs. The results suggest that individual familiarization with pointing gestures ensures high-level performance in the presence of such gestures; however, species-specific differences could cause differences in signaling toward the human. Polyamide‐6 (PA‐6)/boehmite alumina (BA) nanocomposites were prepared via direct melt compounding. Structural, thermal and dielectric properties of ‘as‐received’ (including moisture) and ‘dried’ (thermally treated) specimens were examined. The BA nanofiller was homogeneously dispersed in the PA‐6 matrix. XRD and FTIR revealed that crystallization of PA‐6 in the γ phase was favoured over α phase with increasing BA content. The crystallinity index (CI) and the percentage of α and γ phases were also evaluated. Dried specimens exhibited a lower CI than as‐received specimens while the CI decreased with the addition of filler. Broadband dielectric spectroscopy revealed the presence of γ, β and α relaxations, the Maxwell–Wagner–Sillars effect and the contribution of conductivity relaxation in the as‐received samples. The drying procedure unmasked a double feature of both β and α modes. The results of the complementary techniques were analysed and the effects of moisture and/or the incorporation of BA nanofiller on the microstructure of the PA‐6 matrix are disclosed. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Crosslinked polyurethanes (PUs) containing irreversible (allophanate) and reversible Diels‐Alder chemical bonds were synthesized using various diisocyanates (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate MDI, 1,6‐hexamethylenediisocyanate HDI) and poly(?‐caprolactone) ((PCL) with different molecular weights (Mn = 10 kg/mol, 25 kg/mol, 50 kg/mol) as diol component. The melting/crystallization of PCL and the reversible DA bonds acted as temperature‐activated switches for shape memory performances, while allophanate network provided the permanent crosslinks for these PUs. The reversible DA bonds were obtained by the reaction of diisocyanate‐ended prepolymers with furfurylamine (FA) followed by the addition of bismaleimide (BMI). The permanent crosslinks between the linear chains containing DA bonds were achieved using additional amounts of diisocyanates (MDI or HDI). The above reaction path was supported by infrared spectroscopic results and swelling experiments. Tensile mechanical and shape memory properties in tension of the PUs were determined and discussed as a function of composition and crosslink densities deduced from swelling and dynamic mechanical analysis. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dorsal column axons of the rat spinal cord are partially protected from anoxic injury following blockade of voltage-sensitive Na+ channels and the Na+/--Ca2+ exchanger. To examine the potential contribution of voltage-gated Ca2+ channels to anoxic injury of spinal cord axons, we studied axonal conduction in rat dorsal columns in vitro following a 60-min period of anoxia. Glass microelectrodes were used to record field potentials from the dorsal columns following distal local surface stimulation. Perfusion solutions containing blockers of voltage-gated Ca2+ channels were introduced 60 min prior to onset of anoxia and continued until 10 min after reoxygenation. Pharmacological blocking agents which are relatively selective for L- (verapamil, diltiazem, nifedipine) and N- (omega-conotoxin GVIA) type calcium channels were significantly protective against anoxia-induced loss of conduction, as was non-specific block using divalent cations. Other Ca2+ channel blockers (neomycin and omega-conotoxin MVIIC) that affect multiple Ca2+ channel types were also neuroprotective. Ni2+, which preferentially blocks R-type Ca2+ channels more than T-type channels, was also protective in a dose-dependent manner. These data suggest that the influx of Ca2+, through L-, N- and possibly R-type voltage-gated Ca2+ channels, participates in the pathophysiology of the Ca2+-mediated injury of spinal cord axons that is triggered by anoxia.  相似文献

Proprietary polyurea‐based thermosets were produced from polyisocyanate and water glass (WG) using a phosphate‐type phase transfer catalyst. WG was dispersed in the polyisocyanate resulting in water‐in‐oil (W/O) type emulsion. The polyurea matrix, formed after crosslinking, contained the WG derived silicate in coarse particles showing a broad particle size distribution. The mean particle size of the silicate was markedly reduced and its distribution narrowed when the polyisocyanate was hybridized with a peroxide crosslinkable vinylester resin (VE) when the amount of the latter was <75%. This resin hybridization strongly improved the mechanical (flexural) properties of the related thermosets, however, at cost of the fracture mechanical characteristics (fracture toughness and energy under mode I condition). This was mostly attributed to the formation of a conetwork or interpenetrated network between the polyurea and VE. The static flexural and fracture mechanical properties were determined as function of the resin hybridization ratio. It was found that the mechanical properties change according to the additivity rule as a function of the resin hybridization in the first approximation. The silicate dispersion and the failure behavior in the polyurea/VE hybrids were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and discussed. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
