Several theoretical models describing how stressor–strain relationships unfold in time (e.g., M. Frese & D. Zapf, 1988) were tested with a longitudinal study, with 6 measurement waves, using multivariate latent growth curve models. The latent growth curve model made it possible to decompose trait and state components of strains and to show that both trait and state components are affected by work stressors. Because East Germany constitutes a high-change environment, it is an appropriate setting in which to study the relationship between work stressors; and strains. The results showed that both the state and trait components of strains were affected by stressors. For example, individual trends in uncertainty (stressor) and worrying (strain) were related, whereas worrying also showed a short-term relationship with time pressure (another stressor). Two experiments tested the idea that empathy-induced helping is due to self–other merging. To manipulate empathy, half of the participants in each experiment received instructions to remain objective while hearing about a young woman in need (low-empathy condition), and half received instructions to imagine her feelings (high-empathy condition). To check generality of the empathy–helping relationship, half in each empathy condition learned that the young woman was a student at their university (shared group membership), and half learned that she was a student at a rival university (unshared group membership). Self-reported empathy for and willingness to help the young woman were assessed, and 3 measures of self–other merging were taken. In each experiment, an empathy–helping relationship was found, unqualified by group membership, that could not be accounted for by any of the merging measures. This research investigated how voters select, process, are affected by, and recall political information in a dynamic campaign environment. It was hypothesized that voters' information selection, processing, and recall are subject to a negativity bias (i.e., negative information dominates over positive information), a congruency bias (i.e., positive information about the preferred candidate and negative information about the opponent candidate dominate over negative information about the preferred candidate and positive information about the opponent), and a candidate bias (i.e., information about the preferred candidate dominates over information about the opponent). Motivated by an initial candidate preference, participants were also expected to develop more polarized candidate evaluations over time. Participants were exposed to quickly changing information in the form of newspaper-style headlines on a dynamic, computer-based information board. The results generally supported negativity bias and candidate bias, whereas congruency bias was only found during information recall. At the information selection and processing stages, participants with a strong initial candidate preference showed a disproportionate preference for negative information about the preferred candidate. However, they developed more positive attitudes at the evaluation and recall stage. This finding suggests that participants were engaged in motivated information processing by counterarguing negative information about their preferred candidate.  相似文献

A density gradient electrophoresis apparatus made of Perspex (7 cm, O 2.2 cm) with a circular platinum anode and a palladium cathode was used for the separation of proteins in free liquid. Following a concept developed by M. Bier et al. (Electrophoresis 1993, 14, 1011-1018), mixtures of two suitable amphoteric buffers I and II provide for media with a fixed and electrophoretically stable pH or were used for the generation of preformed (electrophoretically stable) pH gradients covering about 1 pH unit. Amphoters I and II are considered suitable if there is overlap between (pK(1,1)-1-2) and the pK(2,II)+1+2) region. 3-(N-Morpholino)propanesulfonic acid (MOPS) and gamma-amino-n-butyric acid (GABA) were used as an example. Two approaches were followed: (i) rate-zonal separation of test proteins in a pH window, formed by a fixed ratio of MOPS/GABA. (ii) Isoelectric focusing in a shallow preformed pH gradient, made up of inverse reciprocal linear gradients of MOPS and GABA. At isopH, test proteins (bovine serum albumin, cytochrome c, ferritin, hemoglobin, lactoglobulin, myoglobin, and transferrin) were rate-zonally separated within a short time. Even the separation of the A and B forms of lactoglobulin was feasible at isopH. The glycoforms of transferrin were separated and enriched on a pH 5.2-6.1 pH gradient, indicating that pH differences of about 0.01 still permit resolution. We have synthesized 2-[(5-methylbenz-1-ox-4-azin-6-yl)imidazoline, 3, a potent, peripherally acting alpha 2 adrenoceptor agonist. The agent is conveniently prepared in five steps from 2-amino-m-cresol. The agent has demonstrated good selectivity for alpha 2 adrenoceptors in binding and functional studies. When applied topically to eyes, the agent is efficacious for the reduction of intraocular pressure. The agent does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier and, as a consequence, does not lower blood pressure or induce sedation when administered topically or intravenously. We have determined the pKa and log P in water versus both octanol and dodecane of 3 and a set of related agents. The best physical parameter to explain its lack of central nervous system penetration appears to be log P measured in octanol versus water.  相似文献

The carbon monoxide uptake in the reaction of allylbenzene with CoH(CO)4 in n-octane leading to acylcobalt tetracarbonyls and aldehydes is catalyzed by Co2(CO)8. The rate is half order in Co2(CO)8, first order in allylbenzene and shows a complex dependence in CoH(CO)4 and CO. From kinetic experiments between 15 and 45° C the temperature dependence of the observed rate constant was determined. The complete analogy of this kinetics with that obtained for heptene-1 shows that the main aldehydic product 2-phenylbutyraldehyde is formed by a mechanism characteristic for aliphatic olefins and not by one operative for styrenes.  相似文献

We investigate the distribution of the supercurrent through a chaotic quantum dot which is strongly coupled to two superconductors when the Thouless energy is large compared to the superconducting energy gap. The distribution function of the critical currents (Ic) is known to be Gaussian in the limit of large channel number, N. For N=1, we present an analytical low-temperature expression for this distribution function, valid both in the presence and in the absence of time-reversal symmetry. It connects directly the distribution of transmission coefficients to the distribution of critical currents. The case of arbitrary channel number (N2) is discussed numerically, and for small critical currents analytically.  相似文献

We describe a patient who developed granulocytic sarcomas of the mesentery and breast approximately 4 yrs following an allogenic bone marrow transplantation for acute myeloblastic leukemia. The diagnosis was made by a combination of fine-needle aspiration cytology and flow cytometry. The differential diagnoses of localized masses in posttransplant patients and how the combination of fine-needle aspiration cytology and flow cytometry may be used are discussed.  相似文献

Klebsiella pneumoniae mastitis in dairy cattle is generally due to an opportunistic infection from the environment, resulting in large heterogeneity among mastitis-causing strains within a herd. However, in mastitis outbreaks in 4 herds, several strains of K. pneumoniae were identified as the cause of infection in multiple cows, suggesting increased ability to either cause disease or evade host defenses. In this study, differences in capsule formation and immune evasion were compared in 5 pairs of K. pneumoniae strains, where one strain in each pair was associated with multiple cases of mastitis and the other with a single case of mastitis. Production of capsular polysaccharide, ability to evade killing by polymorphonuclear neutrophilic leukocytes (PMNL), and the relationship between the 2 were evaluated for each strain grown in broth or milk. Growth of isolates in skim milk increased capsule size and ability to evade killing by PMNL, depending on strain type. Specifically, strains associated with multiple cases of mastitis had increased capsule size in skim milk. Strains associated with single cases of mastitis were better able to evade killing by PMNL when grown in skim milk. Our results, although preliminary, suggest that the 2 groups of strains may constitute different subpopulations of K. pneumoniae. However, our findings do not indicate that capsule or evasions of killing by PMNL explain increased mastitis outbreaks with Klebsiella. Further work will explain the enhanced ability of some strains to cause mastitis in dairy cows.  相似文献
