The authors studied the role of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in 2 types of forgetting of fear in the developing rat. One type of forgetting studied was that observed after an intermediate retention interval (the "Kamin effect"); the other type studied was that observed after a longer interval (infantile amnesia). Rats were given pairings of an auditory conditioned stimulus with shock, and learned fear was assessed by freezing. Forgetting at an intermediate retention interval (1 hr) was not alleviated by the GABAA receptor partial inverse agonist FG7142 (0, 1, 5, or 10 mg/kg), whereas forgetting at a longer retention interval (48 hr) was alleviated. These results suggest that in the developing rat, forgetting observed at different retention intervals is mediated by different physiological mechanisms. Rats received a single pairing of an auditory conditioned stimulus (CS) with a footshock unconditioned stimulus (US). The fear (freezing) that had accrued to the CS was then extinguished. Injection of naloxone prior to this extinction significantly impaired the development of extinction. This impairment was mediated by opioid receptors in the brain and was not observed when naloxone was injected after extinction training. Finally, an injection of naloxone on test failed to reinstate extinguished responding that had already accrued to the CS. These experiments show that opioid receptors regulate the development, but not the expression, of fear extinction and are discussed with reference to the roles of opioid receptors in US processing, memory, and appetitive motivation. The authors used rats to study the impact of a history of opiate exposures on behavioral and autonomic responses to restraint stress. Brief restraint (30 min) provoked tachycardia and a pressor response, anxiety (as indexed by social interaction), grooming, and reduced exploration. The pressor response was reduced at 1 day, but not 7 days, after last opiate exposure; tachycardia was unaffected (Experiment 1). Stress-induced anxiety was potentiated 1 and 7 days after last opiate exposure (Experiment 2), and this potentiation was a function of dose (Experiment 3) and duration (Experiment 4) of opiate exposure. The results show that a history of opiate exposures alters vulnerability to stress and has implications for understanding coping, anxiety, and emotionality in former opiate users. BioPACE     
While developing the specifications for electronically enabled Machine Readable Travel Documents, the ICAO paid significant attention to security aspects related to the digital information stored in this type of electronic document. This has resulted in Passive and Active Authentication, Basic Access Control and Extended Access Control. The goal of Basic Access Control (BAC) is preventing unauthorized access to the chip data stored on eMRTDs. The PACE protocol has been developed as a future-proof method to overcome the limitations of BAC and to replace BAC in the future. In this paper the BioPACE protocol is proposed as a supplement to the PACE protocol. Besides verifying if the document holder is indeed the rightful owner, the BioPACE protocol provides a higher convenience for the bearer of the document.  相似文献

An adaptive power allocation method for signals transmitted from high-altitude platforms is proposed, and justification of its usefulness is provided. The possible structural scheme for the system is given and its performance is investigated. The adaptation algorithm is based on an optimization procedure, which enables the allocation of the available power to a maximal number of users. The proposed algorithm is tested on simulations. It is shown that for Nakagami fading in downlink channels, the adaptive power allocation yields an energetic gain which can attain up to 21 dB.  相似文献

Infantile amnesia is a ubiquitous phenomenon, but its neural bases remain largely unknown. The authors identify a role for GABAergic transmission in suppressing retrieval of memories acquired in infancy. Eighteen-day-old rats received pairings of white noise and shock; considerable forgetting of this experience (assessed by freezing) occurred after 10 days. The memory was recovered by pretest administration of the GABAA inverse agonist FG7142 10 days, but not 2 months, after training. This effect of FG7142 generalized when a passive avoidance procedure was used. Also, FG7142 decreased fear of a latently inhibited conditioned stimulus, showing that the observed memory recovery effect was not due to a state-dependent process. A statistical model has been developed for the analysis and design of Laser Radar systems (LIDAR). A set of equations, developed for conventional Radar systems, was reconfigured and adapted to the optical case. The analysis and the related developed set of equations were dedicated to the case of detecting co-operative retro reflector carrying targets against background which is a composition of clutter, noise and backscatter sources. The equations developed were evaluated against realisitic system and atmospheric conditions presenting the relations between detection and false alarms probabilities and effective range. This method is very useful in evaluation and design of LIDAR Systems.  相似文献

Rats were shocked in a context on two occasions and then tested for fear reactions as indexed by freezing. Rats spent the interval between conditioning trials and between conditioning and test in their home cages. A short interval between context-conditioning trials or between trials involving a discrete conditioned stimulus (CS) produced better learning than longer intervals. A short retention interval between conditioning and test produced better performance than longer intervals. The effects of the intertrial interval on learning are the opposite of those reported previously and are opposite to those predicted by contemporary learning theories. The effects of the training to test interval on performance are predicted by Wagner's sometimes opponent process (SOP) theory (Wagner, 1981). Previously investigated LADAR Cooperative target acquisition and tracking systems, are enhanced from 10 to 40 km in good visibility conditions. The choice of an optimal LADAR source and the ranges improvements of accurate tracking operation are described. For enhancing detection ranges, specific dual mode LADAR/RADAR systems have been proposed. The optimal solutions for all weather ranges above 400 km are L band RADAR characterized by very high power complex transmitters and bulky antennas.  相似文献
