An Acoustic Converter Used to Measure Ionizing Radiation Energy Loss

A monitor is proposed based on ultrasonic production when ionizing radiation passes through a medium. The recording element is a 0.2 mm aluminum plate mounted in a ceramic acoustic converter AC in the form of a wedge of thickness 2 mm. The low plate thickness minimizes the beam parameter distortion, while special technology used in the AC provides high sensitivity. The device has been calibrated in the proton beam from the ITEP accelerator at 200 MeV with 2·10⁹–6·10¹⁰ particles in a pulse and a pulse length of 70 nsec.     

Investigation of Taimyrsk graphites for producing periclase-carbon ladle refractories

Conclusions The investigations showed that Taimyrsk graphite corresponds in chemical composition to foundry and crucible graphite.The content of crystalline graphite equals 13.0–26.3%. The characteristics of periclase carbon goods based on foundry and Taimyrsk graphites correspond to the demands placed on ladle refractories. The wear factors of these products in the slag belt of the lining of 350-tonne steel ladles are on practically the same level.Taimyrsk graphites may be used for the production of periclase-carbon ladle refractories in place of crucible or foundry graphite.L. Genetic algorithm for optimal parameters search in the one-factor forecasting model based on continuous type-2 fuzzy sets

The application of continuous type-2 fuzzy sets to one-factor forecasting model design is considered. Genetic algorithm for searching of the model parameters ensuring high-accuracy forecasting is suggested.     

Influence of chain-transfer reactions on the molecular-weight-distribution function of diene rubber on a neodymium-containing catalyst system

The numerical solution of a system of differential equations for the concentrations of the reaction system’s macromolecules, which describe the synthesis of diene rubber on a neodymium-containing catalyst system, has been obtained. The influence of the chain-transfer reactions on the number distributions of the monomer links of macromolecules with an assigned number of active sites has theoretically been investigated. Highly efficient low-toxicity catalysts of combustion of double-base powders

It is shown that bismuth compounds whose action is very similar to the action of lead-containing catalysts are quite effective catalysts of combustion of propellants of various compositions. The influence of bismuth compounds on the burning rate of propellants considerably increases when they are introduced together with carbon black and copper compounds. For a certain range of compositions, various copper compounds in combination with carbon black or without it are rather effective catalysts of combustion.
