BACKGROUND: Simultaneous removal of sulfur, nitrogen and carbon compounds from wastewaters is a commercially important biological process. The objective was to evaluate the influence of the CH3COO?/NO3? molar ratio on the sulfide oxidation process using an inverse fluidized bed reactor (IFBR). RESULTS: Three molar ratios of CH3COO?/NO3? (0.85, 0.72 and 0.62) with a constant S2?/NO3? molar ratio of 0.13 were evaluated. At a CH3COO?/NO3? molar ratio of 0.85, the nitrate, acetate and sulfide removal efficiencies were approximately 100%. The N2 yield (g N2 g?1 NO3?‐N consumed) was 0.81. Acetate was mineralized, resulting in a yield of 0.65 g inorganic‐C g?1 CH3COO?‐C consumed. Sulfide was partially oxidized to S0, and 71% of the S2? consumed was recovered as elemental sulfur by a settler installed in the IFBR. At a CH3COO?/NO3? molar ratio of 0.72, the efficiencies of nitrate, acetate and sulfide consumption were of 100%, with N2 and inorganic‐C yields of 0.84 and 0.69, respectively. The sulfide was recovered as sulfate instead of S0, with a yield of 0.92 g SO42?‐S g?1 S2? consumed. CONCLUSIONS: The CH3COO?/NO3? molar ratio was shown to be an important parameter that can be used to control the fate of sulfide oxidation to either S0 or sulfate. In this study, the potential of denitrification for the simultaneous removal of organic matter, sulfide and nitrate from wastewaters was demonstrated, obtaining CO2, S0 and N2 as the major end products. This paper informs about an evaluation of Spanish educational research journals using the modality of reputation inferred from survey data. Univariate and multivariate patterns are offered. Specifically cluster analysis and non-parametric multidimensional scaling reveal themselves as useful methods to inquire the complexity of this scientometric question which is the evaluation of periodical series. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Impaction in pertrochanteric fracture sites is a well known phenomenon; the screw-plate system is designed to stabilise the fracture. Although easier to use, the risk with the nail-plate system is postoperative penetration of the nail into the joint. The present study was conducted to determine the exact conditions of the impaction, and to identify possible ways to improve the nail-plate system. MATERIAL-METHOD: The study included 129 cases of pertrochanteric fracture, excluding sub-trochanteric fractures. All fractures were fixed with a 130 degrees angulated nail-plate. In all cases, consolidation was uneventful after 8 to a 12 weeks. The anatomical type of fracture, i.e. stable or unstable, was determined according to the size of the intermediary fragment, including the trochanter minor. The displacement was measured as the difference between the length of the nail and the length of the femoral head and neck measured along the axis of the femoral neck. The parameters examined were: fracture stability degree, bony mineralisation (Singh Index), nail length, femoral neck, length nail position in the femoral head, and above all, fracture reduction. All these parameters were computerised and compared using Stat View statistics software. RESULTS: Impaction was observed in 43 per cent of cases. Among these, 25 per cent were rated as slight (1 to 5 mm), 18 per cent as moderate (over 5 mm) and 9 per cent as marked (10 to 25 mm). Impaction was associated with demineralisation of the bone tissue (p = 0.001). The anatomical classification of the fracture was not a determining factor (p = 0.19), as marked displacements were also recorded in stable fractures. A posterior and inferior position of the intramedullary nail in the femoral head is one of displacement determining factors (p = 0.004, two-sided 1 test). Valgus over-correction is the most important factor, especially when it is associated with bony demineralisation (p = 0.02) and an inadequately centred intramedullary pin (p = 0.02). Shorter the femoral neck, and shorter the nail, greater was the frequency of nail articular penetration. DISCUSSION: The risk of articular penetration therefore reaches 15 per cent in petrochanteric fractures repaired with a nail plate, set at an angle of 130 degrees. A short neck, a cervicodiaphyseal angle superior to 140 degrees, and demineralisation are the three determining parameters. Stable or unstable fracture has in fact little effect on displacement incidence, and therefore does not, on its own, warrant the use of a prosthesis in comminuted fractures. The authors compared their results to literature on progressive sliding system: the incidence of complications associated with this type of fracture treatment is identical, but the determining parameters are different. CONCLUSION: The study shows that the nail-plate is efficient and provides simple and solid fracture fixation. However, this osteosynthesis material needs to be modified in order to improve its fixation in the femoral head.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Two peat biofilters were used for the removal of toluene from air for one year. One biofilter was fed with pure toluene and the other received 1:1 (by weight) ethyl acetate:toluene mixture. RESULTS: The biofilters were operated under continuous loading: the toluene inlet load (IL) at which 80% removal occurred was 116 g m?3 h?1 at 57 s gas residence time. Maximum elimination capacity of 360 g m?3 h?1 was obtained at an IL of 745 g m?3 h?1. The elimination of toluene was inhibited by the presence of ethyl acetate. Intermittent loading, with pollutants supplied for 16 h/day, 5 days/week, did not significantly affect the removal efficiency (RE). Biomass was fully activated in 2 h after night closures, but 6 h were required to recover RE after weekend closures. Live cell density remained relatively constant over the operational period, while the dead cell fraction increased. Finally, a 15 day starvation period was applied and operation then re‐started. Performance was restored with similar re‐acclimatization period to that after weekend closures, and a reduction in dead cell fraction was observed. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates the capacity of the system to handle intermittent loading conditions that are common in industrial practices, including long‐term starvation. Parallel Programming skills may require a long time to acquire. “Think in parallel” is a skill that requires time, effort, and experience. In this work, we propose to facilitate the students’ learning process in parallel programming by using instant messaging. Our aim was to find out whether students’ interaction through instant messaging tools is beneficial for the learning process. In order to do so, we asked several students of an HPC course of the Master’s degree in Computer Science of the University of León to develop a specific parallel application, each of them using a different application program interface: OpenMP, MPI, CUDA, or OpenCL. Even though the used APIs are different, there are common points in the design process. We encouraged students to interact with each other by using Gitter, an instant messaging tool for GitHub users. Our analysis of the communications and results demonstrate that the direct interaction of students through the Gitter tool has a positive impact on the learning process.

The least-squares linear estimation problem (including prediction, filtering and fixed-point smoothing) from measurements transmitted by different sensors subject to random packet dropouts is addressed. For each sensor, a different Bernoulli sequence is used to model the packet dropout process. Under the assumption that the signal evolution model is unknown, recursive estimation algorithms are derived by an innovation approach, requiring only information about the covariances of the processes involved in the observation equation, as well as the knowledge of the dropout probabilities at each sensor.  相似文献
