The relative effect of residue of leaf, flower, stem, and root of parthenium (Parthenium hysterophorus L.) on growth of water hyacinth was studied. The inhibitory activity of the residue as shown by its effect on biomass and healthy leaf number (HLN) of treated plants was in the order: leaf and flower >stem >root. Total phenolic acids in the medium after 72 hr of suspending the plant part residue were maximum in flower followed by leaf, root, and stem, successively. The dry leaf powder (DLP) and dry flower powder (DFP) at and above 0.50% (w/v) and dry stem powder (DSP) at 1.00% (w/v) killed water hyacinth in about one month. Dry root powder (DRP) at the highest dose (1.25% w/v) reduced the growth of the treated plants drastically, but the plants recovered after about one month. The DSP at 0.50% (w/v) and DRP at 0.25–0.75% (w/v) supported growth of treated plants, probably due to lower levels of inhibitors, allowing utilization of constituents of the residue as nutrients. Using wheat seedlings as a reference material, it was observed that in aquaculture at different levels of parthenium plant parts residue, water hyacinth plants were much more sensitive to inhibitory activity. Thus, water hyacinth is suggested as a material for bioassay of inhibitory activity of the parthenium plant residue.  相似文献

The aim of the current study was to elucidate the synergism of dietary calcium restriction and exhaustive exercise in the antioxidant enzyme system of rat soleus muscle, and to investigate the involvement of neutrophils in exercise-induced muscle damage. Forty-eight male Wistar rats were assigned to the following groups: control (C) or calcium-restricted [1 month (1 M) or 3 months (3 M)]. Each group was subdivided into acutely exercised or non-exercised groups. Soleus muscle from each rat was analysed to determine the levels of antioxidant enzymes [Mn-superoxide dismutase (SOD), Cu, Zn-SOD, glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and catalase (CAT)]. Dietary calcium restriction resulted in calcium deficiency and upregulated the antioxidant enzymes examined except GPX. Conversely, exhaustive exercise significantly decreased GPX and CAT, but not SODs activities in the calcium-restricted (1 M and/or 3 M) rats. Contents of immunoreactive Mn-SOD and Cu,Zn-SOD were only increased in the 3 M rats. During calcium restriction, the mRNA expression of both forms of SOD showed initial upregulation, followed by downregulation. Exhaustive exercise significantly increased the mRNA expressions only in the 3 M rats. Moreover, exhaustive exercise markedly increased myeloperoxidase activity in soleus muscles from the 1 M and 3 M rats compared with the C rats, and significantly enhanced the ability of neutrophils to generate superoxide in the 3 M rats. The results demonstrate that dietary calcium restriction upregulates certain antioxidant enzyme activities in rat soleus muscle, indicating an enhanced resistance to potential increases in intracellular reactive oxygen species. The results also suggest that exhaustive exercise may cause oxidative damage in soleus muscle of calcium-deficient rats through the activation of neutrophils.  相似文献

Remote sensing is a new emerging field of technological development and has made a very significant impact on the geological surveys and studies. The work done so far in geological remote sensing has indicated the scope, utility and limitations of these modern techniques in different geological problems. The utility of airborne surveys and aerial photography has now been well established whereas satellite remote sensing at present has two main constraints—resolution and lack of stereoscopy. With the developments in sensor technology to provide sensors with improved resolution, more spectral bands and stereoscopy, substantial new results are anticipated in the geological remote sensing from space. Brief overview of applications of remote sensing techniques to geology is discussed in this paper.  相似文献

Several commercial catalysts were tested for their activity for upgrading waste lubricating oils. The feedstock was vacuum distilled to remove the light and the heavy ends. Two trickle-bed reactors placed in series were employed, the top reactor contained a high surface area alumina and the bottom reactor the catalyst. A Ni-Mo-AI2O3 catalyst was selected for further study on the basis of its higner activity and activity maintenance. Several different hydrogen pressures, reactor temperatures, and liquid volume hourly space velocities were employed to arrive at the most optimum process conditions. This paper will discuss the effect of catalyst and process conditions on the product liquid color, viscosity, nitrogen, and sulfur content.  相似文献

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Membrane lymphotoxin (LT) alpha/beta, a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) family of immune regulatory molecules, is involved both in the development of secondary lymphoid tissues and the maintenance of organized lymphoid tissues in the adult. Defects observed in the mucosal immune system in animals with a genetically disrupted LTalpha/beta pathway coupled with the expression of LTalpha/beta in activated T cells motivated an examination of the importance of this pathway in experimental colitis. METHODS: Soluble LTbeta receptor (LTbetaR) immunoglobulin fusion protein was used to inhibit the LTalpha/beta/light axis in two independent rodent models of colitis: CD45RBhi CD4(+)-reconstituted SCID mice and bone marrow-transplanted tg26 mice (BM --> tg26). RESULTS: Treatment with LTbetaR immunoglobulin attenuated the development of both the clinical and histological manifestations of the disease in these two murine models of colitis. Given the success of TNF inhibitors in the treatment of human Crohn's disease, the effects of LTbetaR immunoglobulin have been compared with antibody to TNF in the BM --> tg26 model, and both treatments were equally efficacious. CONCLUSIONS: The LT pathway plays a role in the development of colitis as important as that of the TNF system and, therefore, represents a potential novel intervention point for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.  相似文献

The reflection coefficient at the feed of a paraboloidal reflector antenna covered with a paraboloidal radome is evaluated by means of the power-coupling theorem. An asymptotic value of the subsequent expression leads to a simple physical interpretation of the result. A comparison between theoretical and experimental results shows that there is a satisfactory measure of agreement between the two.  相似文献
