Several studies have indicated that a neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation, apart from its role in host defense, can contribute to or drive pathogenesis in a wide range of inflammatory and thrombotic disorders. Therefore, NETs may serve as a therapeutic target or/and a diagnostic tool. Here, we compare the most commonly used techniques for the assessment of NET formation. Furthermore, we review recent data from the literature on the application of basic laboratory tools for detecting NET release and discuss the challenges and the advantages of these strategies in NET evaluation. Taken together, we provide some important insights into the qualitative and quantitative molecular analysis of NETs in translational medicine today. 相似文献

Fetal exposure in adverse environmental factors during intrauterine life can lead to various biological adjustments, affecting not only in utero development of the conceptus, but also its later metabolic and endocrine wellbeing. During human gestation, maternal bone turnover increases, as reflected by molecules involved in bone metabolism, such as vitamin D, osteocalcin, sclerostin, sRANKL, and osteoprotegerin; however, recent studies support their emerging role in endocrine functions and glucose homeostasis regulation. Herein, we sought to systematically review current knowledge on the effects of aforementioned maternal bone biomarkers during pregnancy on fetal intrauterine growth and metabolism, neonatal anthropometric measures at birth, as well as on future endocrine and metabolic wellbeing of the offspring. A growing body of literature converges on the view that maternal bone turnover is likely implicated in fetal growth, and at least to some extent, in neonatal and childhood body composition and metabolic wellbeing. Maternal sclerostin and sRANKL are positively linked with fetal abdominal circumference and subcutaneous fat deposition, contributing to greater birthweights. Vitamin D deficiency correlates with lower birthweights, while research is still needed on intrauterine fetal metabolism, as well as on vitamin D dosing supplementation during pregnancy, to diminish the risks of low birthweight or SGA neonates in high-risk populations. 相似文献

Nonlinearities have been identified in recent literature on growth and convergence at the cross-country level and they have been associated with a number of variables of interest such as initial conditions and human capital accumulation. This research takes the analysis at the regional level within a European context while focusing on entrepreneurship and, using semiparametric regression techniques, provides evidence for nonlinear effects of the base-year income per capita on growth suggesting that convergence may be a phenomenon restricted to particular income bands. Entrepreneurship has a positive effect on regional growth and no serious departures from linearity are detected, while evidence for an almost L-shaped relationship between income per capita levels and self-employment rates was produced. A quality-adjusted proxy for human capital stock was found to be a positive and significant determinant of economic growth across European regions but, again, no departures for linearity were detected for this effect. 相似文献

Land use morphology has profound effects both on city functions and peri-urban areas. They can either lead to conflicts with negative side effects or generate positive synergies. This study focuses on land use spatial configurations and interprets the interactions among them. In order to evaluate spatial planning policies, the measurement of urban land use patterns is considered to play an important role in the urban development process and deserves further attention. A comparative analysis of the land use patterns of the medium-sized Hellenic cities is attempted, there are also used using pre-existing metrics, some new data from the European Environment Agency Urban Atlas 2006 geodataset and population and construction census data concerning the last decade from the national Hellenic Statistical Authority data set. The Larger Urban Zones of the medium-sized Hellenic cities are chosen as a suitable study level based both on population size and socio-spatial procedures. The results provide interesting information about the diversification among medium-sized cities, while some particularities concerning urban procedures appear to emerge for some of them. Common practices of farmers on disposal of pesticide waste after use were surveyed in five regions of the rural area of Pieria in northern Greece using a structured questionnaire administered via personal interviews. Concerning leftover spray solutions, most farmers reported that they normally re-spray the treated field area until the spraying tank is empty (54.9%) or they apply the leftover spray solutions to another crop listed on the product label (30.2%). A minority of the farmers (4.3%) mentioned that they often release the leftover spray solutions near or into irrigation canals and streams. As regards rinsates generated from washing the application equipment, most farmers reported that they release the rinsates over a non-cropped area (45.7%) or they drop the rinsates near or into irrigation canals and streams (40.7%). Moreover, a great proportion of the farmers stated that they dump the empty containers by the field (30.2%) or they throw them near or into irrigation canals and streams (33.3%). Burning the empty containers in open fire (17.9%) or throwing the empty containers in common waste places (11.1%) was also reported. Several farmers stated that they continue to use old pesticides for spraying (35.8%). Training programs which raise awareness of farmers of the potential hazards of pesticide use and particularly of the proper management of waste products, recycling programs and collection systems for unwanted agricultural chemicals to prevent inappropriate waste disposal, as well as improving packaging of pesticides to minimize waste production are essential for promoting safety during all phases of pesticide handling. 相似文献

Energy efficiency has become a very significant factor, requiring its inclusion in the manufacturing decision-making attributes. This paper proposes a generalized approach to manufacturing energy efficiency. The basic element of the approach is the division of energy efficiency definition and study into four manufacturing levels, namely process, machine, production line, and factory. Process-level definitions are provided for the majority of manufacturing processes. A machine-level study indicates and solves difficulties, generated by the workpiece geometry, and points out the interaction with the process level through factors, such as the process time. Moreover, machine tool peripherals are responsible for a significant portion of the consumed energy, and classification based on the dependence of their consumption on process variables is required. Studies made on the production line and factory levels show that energy efficiency, at these levels, is heavily dependent on production planning and scheduling and can be improved through the appropriate utilization of machines, with the inclusion of shutdown and eco-modes. Finally, a case study is presented, showing that many of the difficulties towards the optimization of energy efficiency can be dealt with successfully, using the proposed generalized approach. 相似文献

This paper addresses the single machine early/tardy problem with unrestricted common due date and sequence-dependent setup
times. Two algorithms are introduced to reach near-optimum solutions: the SAPT, a heuristic tailored for the problem, and
a simulated annealing (SA) algorithm. It will be shown that SA provides solutions with slightly better quality; however, SAPT
requires much less computational time. SAPT-SA is a hybrid heuristic that combines both approaches to obtain high quality
