Compensated SC integrator stages are analysed and compared with respect to their sensitivities to finite amplifier gain effects. The accumulation of two independent, broadly applicable formulations for determining the boundary to manipulator workspaces, presented elsewhere, are compared in this paper. Insights gained from one method are used to explain behavior exhibited in the other. Results are also compared and validated. A numerical formulation based on continuation methods is used to map curves that are on the boundary of a manipulator workspace. Analytical criteria based on row rank deficiency criteria of the manipulator's analytical Jacobian are used to map a family of one-dimensional solution curves on the boundary. The other formulation, based on a similar rank-deficiency criteria, yields analytic boundaries parametrized in terms of surface patches on the boundary. Results concerning the applicability of the numerical method to open- and closed-loop systems are compared with those limited to the open-loop for the analytical method. Conclusions regarding the behavior of the manipulator on geometric entities characterized by singular curves, higher-order bifurcation points, and surfaces inside the workspace are drawn. Applicability of both methods and their limitations are also addressed. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: In several types of tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma, prognosis could be correlated with DNA ploidy. Few studies have been performed on hepatoblastoma with contradictory results. METHODS: Twenty-nine cases of nonpretreated hepatoblastoma were studied with flow cytometry and image cytometry for DNA index and proliferation index using paraffin-embedded tissue. RESULTS: Twenty-three (79.9%) tumors were diploid, and 6 (20.7%) were aneuploid (hyperdiploid). Patients with diploid tumors were younger than those with aneuploid tumors. With regard to stage, diploid tumors were almost equally distributed among stages (tumor, lymph node metastases, distant metastases), whereas aneuploid tumors tended to occur in higher stages (tumor, lymph node metastases, distant metastases). Diploid tumors had clearly a better prognosis than aneuploid tumors, although the difference was not statistically significant (flow cytometry, P = 0.06; image cytometry, P = 0.16). A more favorable prognosis was also noted for hepatoblastomas with low-proliferation index (< or = 7%), but the difference from tumors with high-proliferation index (> 7%) again was not statistically significant (P = 0.16). CONCLUSIONS: Although no statistically significant differences in prognosis between hepatoblastomas with diploid and aneuploid DNA content, respectively, were found, there is a clear tendency that diploid hepatoblastomas behave more favorably. PURPOSE: The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the surgeon's ability to assess various types of globe injury, to determine the force necessary to rupture the globe with these types of injuries, and to determine typical orbital retraction forces used in the clinical setting. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-four enucleated globes from recently killed cows were divided into four equal groups-one uninjured control group, one group with a through-and-through scleral laceration, another group with a subtotal scleral laceration, and the last group with an 18-gauge needle perforation. Twenty-seven boarded or board eligible oral and maxillofacial surgeons were asked to assess one sample from each of the four groups. They were then asked to retract a simulated globe on a custom-fabricated jig to determine clinical retraction forces. Ten globes from each of the four groups were then subjected to forces until rupture on an Instron 8501M mechanical testing unit. Accuracy of the clinical assessment was determined, and means and standard deviations of the retraction forces and globe rupture forces were derived. RESULTS: Through-and-through lacerations were assessed by surgeons with 100% accuracy, subtotal lacerations with 96% accuracy, uninjured globes with 74% accuracy, and perforated globes with 15% accuracy. Globe rupture occurred at 16.72+/-7.87 kg in the control group, 20.36+/-7.87 kg in the perforated group, 15.38+/-6.06 kg in the subtotal laceration group, and 4.94+/-2.56 kg in the through-and-through laceration group. Statistically significant differences (P < .001) were noted between the total laceration group and all other groups. The mean retraction force was 0.35+/-0.47 kg, which was statistically less than the force used in all of the rupture groups (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: Severe injuries (through-and-through lacerations) were assessed with 100% accuracy by the clinicians, and less severe injuries with less accuracy. Rupture forces for globes with perforations and subtotal lacerations were no different than for the control group, but substantially less than for the total laceration group. We compare the performance of two back reflector designs on the optoelectrical properties of microcrystalline silicon solar cells. The first one consists of a 5‐µm‐thick low‐pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD)‐ZnO electrode combined with a white sheet; the second one incorporates an Ag reflector deposited on a thin LPCVD‐ZnO layer (with thickness below 200 nm). For this latter design, the optical loss in the nano‐rough Ag reflector can be strongly reduced by smoothing the surface of the thin underlying ZnO layer, by means of an Ar‐plasma treatment. Because of its superior lateral conductivity, the thin‐ZnO/Ag back reflector design provides a higher fill factor than the dielectric back reflector design. When decreasing the roughness of the front electrode with respect to our standard front LPCVD‐ZnO layer, the electrical cell performance is improved; in addition, the implementation of the thin‐ZnO/Ag back reflector leads to a significant relative gain in light trapping. Applying this newly optimized combination of front and back electrodes, the conversion efficiency is improved from 8.9% up to 9.4%, for cells with an active‐layer thickness of only 1.1 µm. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements of dormant bacterial spores is traditionally associated with an endothermic transition at around 50 degrees C. This endothermic transition was described as an indicator for two main physico-chemical states in spores. These were a glassy state in the dormant spore core as a model for spore dormancy and a heat-activated state that generally facilitates spore resuscitation. The idea of a glassy state in dormant spores is based on the observation that a similar transition as in dormant spores was observed in low moisture biopolymers that are in a glassy state. Thermal properties of spores of Bacillus subtilis and B. cereus in a dormant and germinated, resuscitated state and of an outer and an inner coatless spore mutant of B. subtilis were investigated. Biopolymers with low moisture (<15%) and high moisture (>30%) contents such as maize starch, pectin, RNA and DNA were further studied. Critical evaluation of results revealed that the low temperature transition in dormant spores has some similarities to those observed in glassy biopolymers, but also to those of fully hydrated proteins and therefore does not necessarily indicate a glassy low moisture state. Its origin can also be attributed to the outer spore coats and it occurred at a lower temperature and for a shorter duration to be of significance for thermal heat activation of spores. 相似文献

After going through several examinations and finally being referred to a pain clinic the patient demanded a second opinion from an orthopaedic surgeon.
