This study investigates the role of the polymeric binder on the properties and performance of an intumescent coating. Waterborne resins of different types (vinylic, acrylic, and styrene-acrylic) were incorporated in an intumescent paint formulation, and characterized extensively in terms of thermal degradation behavior, intumescence thickness, and thermal insulation. Thermal microscopy images of charred foam development provided further information on the particular performance of each type of coating upon heating. The best foam expansion and heat protection results were obtained with the vinyl binders. Rheological measurements showed a complex evolution of the viscoelastic characteristics of the materials with temperature. As an example, the vinyl binders unexpectedly hardened significantly after thermal degradation. The values of storage moduli obtained at the onset of foam blowing (melamine decomposition) were used to explain different intumescence expansion behaviors.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: \"Penetrating aortic ulcer\", an atherosclerotic lesion with ulceration that penetrates the internal elastic lamina and allows haematoma formation within the aortic wall, is rarely considered in the differential diagnosis of patients with sudden onset of severe chest or back pain. It has been suggested that it is a pathologic process that involves elderly hypertensive patients with severe atherosclerosis and rarely has been observed in the ascending aorta. METHODS: To determine the characteristics of this process, 11 clinical, 2 hemodynamic, 3 angiographic and 4 surgical variables were compared between 10 consecutive patients with penetrating aortic ulcers and 20 matched patients with classic acute aortic dissection. RESULTS: Clinical and hemodynamic variables were similar in both compared groups. In the group of patients with penetrating ulcer mean age was 58 +/- 6 years, previous hypertension was observed in 6 patients and the penetrating ulcer was located in the ascending aorta in 6 cases. In comparison to patients with aortic dissection, more angiographic projections were necessary to obtain the diagnosis in the group of patients with penetrating ulcer (2.4 +/- 0.8 vs 1.7 +/- 0.6; p < 0.05). In addition, the presence of angiographic aortic valve regurgitation was only observed in the group of patients with acute dissection (60% vs 0%; p < 0.001). Severe atherosclerosis was not present angiographically in any patient with penetrating ulcer. CONCLUSIONS: Penetrating aortic ulcer can also affect middle age patients without severe atherosclerosis and is frequently observed in the ascending aorta. Its form of presentation and clinical characteristics are similar to classic aortic dissection. The lack of angiographic confirmatory evidence of dissection with suggestive clinical history, should raise the possibility of penetrating aortic ulcer.  相似文献

The recycling process toward the elimination of varistor wastes into new electro‐active silicon composites has been investigated. We studied the dependence of the EJ characteristics on the aggregate content in the polymer matrix. Formulations with 40 vol.% metal oxide varistor aggregates in the 100‐200 μm range exhibit reliable nonlinear behavior with a switching voltage of 280±30 V/mm. The breakdown voltage of the composite decreases as both filler's diameter and filler's volume fraction increases in the 550‐220 V/mm and 440‐280 V/mm range, respectively. This paves the way for the valorization of varistors based zinc oxide (ZnO) ceramics.  相似文献

Modern acquisition techniques generate detailed point clouds that sample complex geometries. For instance, we are able to produce millimeter-scale acquisition of whole buildings. Processing and exploring geometrical information within such point clouds requires scalability, robustness to acquisition defects and the ability to model shapes at different scales. In this work, we propose a new representation that enriches point clouds with a multi-scale planar structure graph. We define the graph nodes as regions computed with planar segmentations at increasing scales and the graph edges connect regions that are similar across scales. Connected components of the graph define the planar structures present in the point cloud within a scale interval. For instance, with this information, any point is associated to one or several planar structures existing at different scales. We then use topological data analysis to filter the graph and provide the most prominent planar structures. Our representation naturally encodes a large range of information. We show how to efficiently extract geometrical details (e.g. tiles of a roof), arrangements of simple shapes (e.g. steps and mean ramp of a staircase), and large-scale planar proxies (e.g. walls of a building) and present several interactive tools to visualize, select and reconstruct planar primitives directly from raw point clouds. The effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated by an extensive evaluation on a variety of input data, as well as by comparing against state-of-the-art techniques and by showing applications to polygonal mesh reconstruction.  相似文献

Maternal smoking is a risk factor of preterm prelabor rupture of the fetal membranes (pPROM), which is responsible for 30% of preterm births worldwide. Cigarettes induce oxidative stress and inflammation, mechanisms both implicated in fetal membranes (FM) weakening. We hypothesized that the receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) and its ligands can result in cigarette-dependent inflammation. FM explants and amniotic epithelial cells (AECs) were treated with cigarette smoke condensate (CSC), combined or not with RAGE antagonist peptide (RAP), an inhibitor of RAGE. Cell suffering was evaluated by measuring lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) medium-release. Extracellular HMGB1 (a RAGE ligand) release by amnion and choriodecidua explants were checked by western blot. NF-κB pathway induction was determined by a luciferase gene reporter assay, and inflammation was evaluated by cytokine RT-qPCR and protein quantification. Gelatinase activity was assessed using a specific assay. CSC induced cell suffering and HMGB1 secretion only in the amnion, which is directly associated with a RAGE-dependent response. CSC also affected AECs by inducing inflammation (cytokine release and NFκB activation) and gelatinase activity through RAGE engagement, which was linked to an increase in extracellular matrix degradation. This RAGE dependent CSC-induced inflammation associated with an increase of gelatinase activity could explain a pathological FM weakening directly linked to pPROM.  相似文献

We have studied the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) of Zr1-xCexO2 and Ce1-xLaxO2-x/2 initially to grow buffer layers for perovskite films deposited on Si, LaAlO3, SrTiO3 and MgO and then to produce tunneling barriers for cuprate or manganite heterostructures. On (1 0 0) Si, the deposition of Zr1-xCexO2 (x = 0.12) produces a smooth epitaxial layer (R RMS = 0.25/1m2), which allows the further deposition of high quality YBa2Cu3O7 (Tc 88 K) and La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 films. On the other hand, the use of Ce1-xLaxO2-x/2 (0 x 0.4) makes it possible to match the YBa2Cu3O7 and La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 layers to various substrates. The buffer layers are epitaxially grown with a 45° rotation of the in-plane axes with respect to those of the substrate, and the smoothness is high (R RMS = 0.25/1m2). In the case of an ultra-thin barrier (2.5 nm) of Ce1-xLaxO2-x/2 sandwiched in a La0.7Sr0.3MnO3, the out-of-plane mismatch of 2 induces distortions at the interface steps, which propagate into the topmost La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 layer. This is in contrast to the case of SrTiO3 barriers where an ideal crystal continuity in the growth direction is observed.  相似文献

This review strives forward at least two goals. First, to take from the literature the arguments demonstrating that hindlimbs locomotion is controlled by a spinal network of neurons (the so-called Central Pattern Generator for locomotion--CPG) known to be able to generate locomotor activity independently of the control of supraspinal nervous structures, as it is after thoracic lesions of the spinal cord. The principles of work of the CPG and its intrinsic possibilities to adapt its working are reviewed. Special reference is made to the various ways used during experiments to activate the CPG in spinal animals or clinical practice in paraplegic men: training to walk, electrical stimulations, pharmacological stimulations. Second, to show, from our own results, obtained from the study of an animal model of paraplegia, the adult spinal rat, how it could be possible to take advantage of the autonomy of the CPG, with special reference to its sensibility to monoamines, to obtain locomotor recovery in hindlimbs after section of the thoracic spinal cord, by means of transplantation of noradrenergic and/or serotonergic embryonic neurons in the lumbo-sacral spinal cord. Section of the spinal cord at a thoracic level results in an important locomotor deficit in hindlimbs, likely linked to degeneration of monoaminergic terminals in the lumbar enlargement. In the adult spinal rat, sub-lesional injection of a suspension of embryonic nervous cells, taken from either locus coeruleus or raphe sites, leads to reinnervation of the lumbar enlargement with monoaminergic terminals. Despite the fact that connections with supraspinal structures are not reestablished, transplanted animals recover progressively a posture convenient for locomotion. The hindlimbs, which are in an extended position a few days after the lesion, become progressively flexed and able to support the body weight. This evolution does not appear in spinal but non transplanted animals. But, the main point is that transplanted animals develop, within the few weeks that follow transplantation, a good-quality locomotor activity in hindlimbs which had no equivalent in spinal but non transplanted animals. The reality of a lumbar CPG for locomotion and the efficacy of pharmacological treatments and training to walk, to elicit recovery of stepping, are discussed in man, in connection with the relevance to use transplantation of monoaminergic nervous cells in the spinal cord of paraplegics.  相似文献

Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) have been used in this work to investigate vacancy defects induced in the track region of 132 MeV 12C irradiated silicon carbide. Irradiations have been performed at room temperature at a fluence of 2.5 × 1014 cm−2 in N-low doped 6H–SiC and 3C–SiC monocrystals. Silicon monovacancies have been detected in both polytypes using EPR. Their charge state and concentration have been determined in the track and cascade region of the C+ ions. PALS measurements performed as a function of temperature have shown the presence of VSi–C divacancies in the track region for both polytypes.  相似文献
