Producing a compact long-lived plasma formation

A method of producing compact long-lived plasma formations (plasmoids) is described. The method is based on the effect of capture of a high-current relativistic electron beam under conditions of significant overcompensation of space charge of the beam by positive background ions. Requirements are formulated which are placed on the parameters of a plasma-beam system for the realization of this method, and numerical estimates are given of the overall electric charge and energy content of the electron component of a plasmoid. Laser-induced diamagnetism in suspension of onion-like carbon particles

It is experimentally established that the bleached fraction of a suspension of onion-like carbon (OLC) particles in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), which is clarified under the action of high-power pulsed laser radiation at λ = 1064 nm, is pushed out from inhomogeneous magnetic field. By changing the spatial arrangement of a permanent magnet relative to the point of laser action on the suspension, it is possible to control the direction of motion of the bleached fraction. The observed behavior can be explained by laserstimulated chemical reactions between OLC and DMF, which lead to the formation of a new substance with pronounced diamagnetic properties.     

On solving a maximin reliability estimation problem by selection of the instant for standby switching-on

The apparatus of duel situations with time instant selection was used to consider certain examples of analytical determination of the maximin of discontinuous criterion which characterizes the probability of maintaining system serviceability through selection of the optimal instant for activation of the redundant unit. A certain generalization to the problem of seeking the maximin of discontinuous criterion was also presented.     

Experience and perspectives of application of gasdynamic coatings in space technology

The given work deals with the results of the research carried out by the “Salute“ DB of the Khrunichev State research-and-production space center concerning the development of special equipment and improvement of the technique of the “cold“ gasdynamic method of application of coating for the accomplishment of several specific tasks: (1) development of the technique of application of a fireproof heat-radiating coating to screens made from stainless steel with coefficient of thermal radiation ε≥0.7; (2) development of technique of sealing (“curing“) of microleaks on the weld joints of the propellant tanks made of aluminum alloys; (3) study of the opportunity of sealing of joints of parts made from heterogeneous materials; (4) development of process for copper and nickel coating application for aluminium heat exchangers soldering.……

Bending and Deformation Waves on the Surface of a Volumetrically Charged Cylindrical Jet of Dielectric Liquid Moving in Material Medium

Analytical research into the stability of axially asymmetric capillary waves on the surface of a volumetrically charged cylindrical jet of an ideal incompressible dielectric liquid that moves in an ideal incompressible dielectric medium made it possible to specify the conditions for realization of instability of waves with azimuthal numbers 1 and 2, which corresponds to excitement of bending and deformation waves. It was found that realization of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability occurs on the media interface because of a tangential jump of the field of velocities on the jet surface for the axially asymmetric waves. The linear dimensions of wave numbers' ranges of unstable waves and the sizes of increments of instability are defined by values of the charging Weber’s parameters. The variation of dielectric permeability of a jet and medium affects the characteristics of wave motions, including those in the range of instability realization.     

Processing of the surface of a silumin plate with a high-energy source

The possibility of modification of the surface layers of cast plates of an antifriction AK9 aluminum alloy by electric-arc melting in a magnetic field is studied. The structure and mechanical and triboengineering properties of the AK9 alloy are studied in the initial as-cast state and after modification. It is shown that a fourpole magnetic system can control the sizes of the surface melting zone (width, depth) and the structural dispersity. The mechanical and triboengineering characteristics of the samples after processing are improved as compared to the initial material.
