In this study, we describe the tracheal-relaxant and tocolytic activities of the methanol (ME) and aqueous (AQ) crude extracts of ginger (rhizome of Zingiber officinale) in an attempt to rationalize its traditional use in disorders of airways and uterine hyperactivity. Both of the ginger extracts dose-dependently relaxed K+ (80 mM) and carbachol (CCh, 1 μM)-induced contractions with more potency against K+, similar to that elicited by verapamil, a Ca2+ channel blocker. In isolated uterine preparations, the extracts suppressed the K+-induced contractions with respective EC50 values of 0.03 mg/ml (0.02–0.05, 95% CI) and 0.05 mg/ml (0.04–0.06). Activity-directed fractionation of AQ yielded an organic and an aqueous fraction with the activities concentrated in the former. Both the crude extracts were found safe in mice up to the oral dose of 5 g/kg when tested for acute toxicity for 24 h. The study shows that ginger possesses tracheal and uterine smooth muscle relaxant activity, possibility mediated via Ca2+ channel blockade, justifying its use in disorders such as asthma, cough as well as in dysmenorrhoea and uterine and menstrual spasms and congestion.  相似文献

A two-dimensional cross-section finite difference model is presented to simulate density dependent leachate migration in leaky aquifers. Unlike existing models, a new approach is adopted to couple the groundwater-flow equation and the hydrodynamic dispersion equation with the elimination of the intermediate step of calculating velocities. The concept of the reference density is employed, permitting increased accuracy (over pressure-based models) in the representation of the transport process. The model is then used to study the effect of several hydraulic and transport parameters on the flow pattern and plume migration which are found to be very sensitive to most of these parameters. Equiconcentration and equipotential lines are overlapped to provide a better understanding of the coupling effect.  相似文献

We establish a general relation between dispersion forces. First, based on QED in causal media, leading-order perturbation theory is used to express both the single-atom Casimir-Polder and the two-atom van der Waals potentials in terms of the atomic polarizabilities and the Green tensor for the body-assisted electromagnetic field. Endowed with this geometry-independent framework, we then employ the Born expansion of the Green tensor together with the Clausius-Mosotti relation to prove that the macroscopic Casimir-Polder potential of an atom in the presence of dielectric bodies is due to an infinite sum of its microscopic many-atom van der Waals interactions with the atoms comprising the bodies. This theorem holds for inhomogeneous, dispersing, and absorbing bodies of arbitrary shapes and arbitrary atomic composition on an arbitrary background of additional magnetodielectric bodies.  相似文献

Full length and short model SSC (Superconducting Super Collider) 50 mm bore dipoles are being built and tested at Fermilab. The mechanical design of these magnets has been determined from experience with the construction of previous superconducting magnets. Construction experience includes coil fabrication, ground insulation, instrumentation, collaring, and yoke assembly. Fabrication techniques are explained, and construction problems and their solutions are reviewed. The relationship of short to long model construction is discussed  相似文献

Bionanoparticles of starch obtained by submitting native potato starch granules to acid hydrolysis conditions. The resulted starch nanoparticles were used as core or macro initiator for polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (CL). Starch nanoparticle‐g‐polycaprolactone was synthesized through ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of CL in the presence of Sn(Oct)2 as initiator. The detailed microstructure of the resulted copolymer was characterized with NMR spectroscopy. Thermal characteristic of the copolymer was investigated using DSC and TGA. By introducing PCL, the range of melting temperature for starch was increased and degradation of copolymer occurred in a broader region. X‐ray diffraction and TEM micrographs confirmed that there was no alteration of starch crystalline structure and morphology of nanoparticles, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyurethane coatings are highly flammable, and because of their widespread applications on different substrates (wood, steel, and building materials), there is a need to increase their fire‐safety properties. Intumescent additives sharply suppress the flammability properties of polyurethane coatings. Two problems accompany intumescent additives: their high loading percentage and incompatibility with polyurethane coatings. In this research, we succeeded in increasing the compatibility by mixing intumescent additives with a butyl acrylate polymer and in lowering the flame‐retardant additive loading (up to 20%) by incorporating newly modified montmorillonite.
