In this work, we focus on the processes which accompany a frontal neutralization reaction occurring between two miscible fluids filling a vertical Hele-Shaw cell. We have found that chemically-induced changes of reagent concentrations coupled with concentration- dependent diffusion (CDD) can produce spatially localized low density areas which are sensitive to the external inertial field. In the case of static gravity we have demonstrated both experimentally and theoretically that it can give rise to the development of perfectly periodic convective structure. This scenario is strikingly different from the irregular density fingering, which is typically observed in the miscible systems. When the system is under the influence of the periodic low-frequency vibrations perpendicular to the reaction front, we found numerically the excitation of a mixed-mode instability combining the double-diffusion instabilities and the Rayleigh-Taylor mechanism of the convection within the low density areas. 相似文献

We consider a predator–prey population model with prey gathering together for defence purposes. A transmissible unrecoverable disease affects the prey. We characterize the system behaviour, establishing that ultimately either only the susceptible prey survive, or the disease becomes endemic, but the predators are wiped out. Another alternative is that the disease is eradicated, with sound prey and predators thriving at an equilibrium or through persistent population oscillations. Finally, the populations can thrive together, with the endemic disease. The only impossible alternative in these circumstances is predators thriving just with infected prey. But this follows from the model assumptions, in that infected prey are too weak to sustain themselves. A mathematical peculiarity of the model is the singularity-free reformulation, which leads to three entirely new dependent variables to describe the system. The model is then extended to encompass the situation in which ingestion of diseased prey is fatal for the predators and to the cases where the predators find the infected prey less palatable. 相似文献

One of the most evident characteristics of robotic applications is heterogeneity: large robotic projects involve many different researchers with very different programming needs and areas of research, using a variety of hardware and software that must be integrated efficiently (i.e.: with a low development cost) to construct applications that satisfy not only classic robotic requirements (fault-tolerance, real-time specifications, intensive access to hardware, etc.) but also software engineering aspects (reusability, maintainability, etc.). Most existing solutions to this problem either do not deal with such heterogeneity or do not cover specific robotic needs. In this paper we propose a framework for the integration of heterogeneous robotic software through a software engineering approach: the BABEL development system, which is aimed to cover the main phases of the application lifecycle (design, implementation, testing, and maintainance) when unavoidable heterogeneity conditions are present. The capabilities of our system are shown by its support for designing and implementing diverse real robotic applications that use several programming languages (C, C++, JAVA), execution platforms (RT-operating systems, MS-Windows, no operating system at all), communication middleware (CORBA, TCP/IP, USB), and also a variety of hardware components (Personal Computers, microcontrollers, and a wide diversity of sensor and actuator devices in mobile robots and manipulator arms). 相似文献

The microstructure evolution of cold-rolled and isochronally annealed Fe–24Mn–3Al–2Si–1Ni–0.06C twinning induced plasticity steel was investigated by electron back-scattering diffraction (EBSD). Deformation behaviour of a fully recrystallised sample was tracked in a selected area as a function of the true strain using a combination of interrupted tensile testing and EBSD. The results show that the cold rolled microstructure contained a large fraction of primary and secondary twins as well as remnants of annealing twins carried over from the prior hot rolling stage. A novel deconstruction technique was applied to a partially recrystallised sample in order to separate the microstructure into deformed, recovered, newly nucleated and growing recrystallised grains. The interrupted tensile tests revealed the formation of fine striations in grains with $ \langle 111\rangle $ 〈 111 〉 and $ \langle 110\rangle $ 〈 110 〉 orientations just after yielding. While the striations could be attributed to either stacking faults or the formation of fine twin packets, some of them manifested as twin boundaries as the true strain was increased up to 0.209. 相似文献

The Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite mission, based on an aperture synthesis L-band radiometer was successfully launched in November 2009. In the context of a validation campaign for the SMOS mission, intensive airborne and in situ observations were performed in southwestern France for the SMOS CAL/VAL, from April to May 2009 and from April to July 2010. The CAROLS (Cooperative Airborne Radiometer for Ocean and Land Studies) bi-angular (34°-0°) and dual-polarized (V and H) L-band radiometer was designed, built and installed on board the French ATR-42 research aircraft. During springs of 2009 and 2010, soil moisture observations from the SMOSMANIA (Soil Moisture Observing System-Meteorological Automatic Network Integrated Application) network of Météo-France were complemented by airborne observations of the CAROLS L-band radiometer, following an Atlantic-Mediterranean transect in southwestern France. Additionally to the 12 stations of the SMOSMANIA soil moisture network, in situ measurements were collected in three specific sites within an area representative of a SMOS pixel. Microwave radiometer observations, acquired over southwestern France by the CAROLS instrument were analyzed in order to assess their sensitivity to surface soil moisture (wg). A combination of microwave brightness temperature (Tb) at either two polarizations or two contrasting incidence angles was used to retrieve wg through regressed empirical logarithmic equations with good results, depending on the chosen configuration. The regressions derived from the CAROLS measurements were applied to the SMOS Tb and their retrieval performance was evaluated. The retrievals of wg showed significant correlation (p-value < 0.05) with surface measurements for most of the SMOSMANIA stations (8 of 12 stations) and with additional field measurements at two specific sites, also. Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a binary radiotherapeutic approach to the treatment of malignant tumors, especially glioblastoma, the most frequent and incurable brain tumor. For successful BNCT, a boron-containing therapeutic agent should provide selective and effective accumulation of 10B isotope inside target cells, which are then destroyed after neutron irradiation. Nucleic acid aptamers look like very prospective candidates for carrying 10B to the tumor cells. This study represents the first example of using 2′-F-RNA aptamer GL44 specific to the human glioblastoma U-87 MG cells as a boron delivery agent for BNCT. The closo-dodecaborate residue was attached to the 5′-end of the aptamer, which was also labeled by the fluorophore at the 3′-end. The resulting bifunctional conjugate showed effective and specific internalization into U-87 MG cells and low toxicity. After incubation with the conjugate, the cells were irradiated by epithermal neutrons on the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics neutron source. Evaluation of the cell proliferation by real-time cell monitoring and the clonogenic test revealed that boron-loaded aptamer decreased specifically the viability of U-87 MG cells to the extent comparable to that of 10B-boronophenylalanine taken as a control. Therefore, we have demonstrated a proof of principle of employing aptamers for targeted delivery of boron-10 isotope in BNCT. Considering their specificity, ease of synthesis, and large toolkit of chemical approaches for high boron-loading, aptamers provide a promising basis for engineering novel BNCT agents. 相似文献
