In this paper, we consider least-squares (LS) problems where the regression data is affected by parametric stochastic uncertainty. In this setting, we study the problem of minimizing the expected value with respect to the uncertainty of the LS residual. For general nonlinear dependence of the data on the uncertain parameters, determining an exact solution to this problem is known to be computationally prohibitive. Here, we follow a probabilistic approach, and determine a probable near optimal solution by minimizing the empirical mean of the residual. Finite sample convergence of the proposed method is assessed using statistical learning methods. In particular, we prove that if one constructs the empirical approximation of the mean using a finite number N of samples, then the minimizer of this empirical approximation is, with high probability, an ε-suboptimal solution for the original problem. Moreover, this approximate solution can be efficiently determined numerically by a standard recursive algorithm. Comparisons with gradient algorithms for stochastic optimization are also discussed in the paper and several numerical examples illustrate the proposed methodology. 相似文献

The state of the art of searching for non-text data (e.g., images) is to use extracted metadata annotations or text, which might be available as a related information. However, supporting real content-based audiovisual search, based on similarity search on features, is significantly more expensive than searching for text. Moreover, such search exhibits linear scalability with respect to the dataset size, so parallel query execution is needed.In this paper, we present a Distributed Incremental Nearest Neighbor algorithm (DINN) for finding closest objects in an incremental fashion over data distributed among computer nodes, each able to perform its local Incremental Nearest Neighbor (local-INN) algorithm. We prove that our algorithm is optimum with respect to both the number of involved nodes and the number of local-INN invocations. An implementation of our DINN algorithm, on a real P2P system called MCAN, was used for conducting an extensive experimental evaluation on a real-life dataset.The proposed algorithm is being used in two running projects: SAPIR and NeP4B. 相似文献

This note deals with the implementation of a second-order sliding mode control algorithm for a class of nonlinear systems in which the sign of the high-frequency gain, though constant, is unknown. A specific second-order sliding mode control algorithm, the “Suboptimal” algorithm, is properly modified in order to face the uncertainty in the control direction. This note addresses the multi‐input second‐order sliding mode control design for a class of nonlinear multivariable uncertain dynamics. Among the most important peculiarities of the considered control problem, the considered sliding vector variable has a uniform vector relative degree [2,2, … ,2] with respect to the vector control variable, and only the sign of the sliding vector and of its derivative are available for feedback. Additionally, the symmetric part of the state‐dependent control matrix is supposed to be positive definite. Under some further mild restrictions on the uncertain system's dynamics, a control algorithm that realizes a multi‐input version of the ‘twisting’ second‐order sliding mode control algorithm is suggested. Simple controller tuning conditions are derived by means of a constructive Lyapunov analysis, which demonstrates that the suggested control algorithm guarantees the semiglobal asymptotic convergence to the sliding manifold. Simulation results, which confirm the good performance of the proposed scheme and investigate the actual accuracy obtained under the discrete‐time implementation effects, are given. The need to provide in vivo complex environments to understand human diseases strongly relies on the use of animal models, which traditionally include small rodents and rabbits. It is becoming increasingly evident that the few species utilised to date cannot be regarded as universal. There is a great need for new animal species that are naturally endowed with specific features relevant to human diseases. Farm animals, including pigs, cows, sheep and horses, represent a valid alternative to commonly utilised rodent models. There is an ample scope for the application of proteomic techniques in farm animals, and the establishment of several proteomic maps of plasma and tissue has clearly demonstrated that farm animals provide a disease environment that closely resembles that of human diseases. The present review offers a snapshot of how proteomic techniques have been applied to farm animals to improve their use as biomedical models. In this paper, fast recursive algorithms for the approximation of an n-dimensional convex polytope by means of an inscribed ellipsoid are presented. These algorithms consider at each step a single inequality describing the polytope and, under mild assumptions, they are guaranteed to converge in a finite number of steps. For their recursive nature, the proposed algorithms are better suited to treat a quite large number of constraints than standard off-line solutions, and have their natural application to problems where the set of constraints is iteratively updated, as on-line estimation problems, nonlinear convex optimization procedures and set membership identification. 相似文献

This article reports a study exploring motivations of Pokémon Game use, individual differences related to personality traits, and game habits. First, it analyzed Pokémon GO motivations through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) by administering online the Pokémon GO Motivational Scale to a group of Italian gamers (N = 560). Successively, a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was conducted testing three factorial models of Pokémon Game motivations on a selected random sample (N = 310). Results showed a three-factor model of Pokémon GO Game motivations (i.e. Personal Needs, Social Needs and Recreation), accounting for 68.9% of total variance plus a general higher order factor that best fits the data. Individual differences in Pokémon GO motivations and personality traits have been explored showing that high involved Pokémon GO players are introverted, low agreeableness, and conscientiousness people, driven by personal social and recreational needs. Reciprocal influences on motivational involvement, personality, and game habits were discussed. 相似文献
