Coordinating production and distribution of jobs with bundling operations

We consider an integrated scheduling and distribution model in which jobs completed by two different machines must be bundled together for delivery. The objective is to minimize the sum of the delivery cost and customers' waiting costs. Such a model not only attempts to coordinate the job schedules on both machines, but also aims to coordinate the machine schedules with the delivery plan. Polynomial-time heuristics and approximation schemes are developed for the model with only direct shipments as well as the general model with milk-run deliveries.     

Applying CIM technology to image factories

Image processing allows the automation of the business transaction, turning “paper factories” into “image factories.” This burgeoning new area of computerization needs new paradigms, theories, and methods to maximize its effectiveness at cutting time and costs. This paper investigates what this new area of computerization can gain from CIM technology. It examines the similarities between the processing of computer images in a paperless business environment and the processing of materials into products in the manufacturing plant. These similarities will allow us to apply mature, well-tested CIM techniques to emerging image factories.     

New advances on a posteriori error on constitutive relation in f.e. analysis

This paper deals with error estimators based on residuals on the constitutive relation which have been developed for the past 20 years at Cachan. Especially in the case of elasticity, these error estimators can become poor in situations where the material and the mesh are strongly anisotropic. The crucial point herein is the construction of equilibrated stress fields from the computed finite element solution. Therefore, in this paper, the approach and in particular this last point are re-examined. Several important modifications are introduced in the concepts and basic techniques. Hence, a new generation of error estimators which seem to be extremely robust upon initial applications has been generated.     

Molecular structure and stereoelectronic properties of sarmazenil--a weak inverse agonist at the omega modulatory sites (benzodiazepine receptors): comparison with bretazenil and flumazenil

X-ray diffraction and ab initio MO theoretical calculations were used in order to investigate the structural and electronic properties of sarmazenil, a weak inverse agonist at the omega modulatory sites (benzodiazepine receptors). This compound was compared to bretazenil, a partial agonist, and to the antagonist flumazenil on the basis of structural and electronic data. The conformational and theoretical properties (interatomic pi overlap populations, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), the topology of frontier orbitals, and proton affinity) of these three imidazobenzodiazepinones were determined in order to analyse the stereoelectronic properties in relation with their distinct intrinsic efficacies at the omega modulatory sites.
