p53 protein expression in extrahepatic bile duct cancer

p53 mutations, a tumor suppressor gene located on chromosome 17p, are the most common genetic alterations found in human cancers. Although the p53 expression or mutation has been investigated in a variety of cancers there have been very few studies in extrahepatic bile duct cancers. In this study, we investigated the immunohistochemical expression of p53 in formalin fixed paraffin embedded archival specimens of 36 extrahepatic bile duct cancers in which p53 expression was found in eighteen (50%) cases. There was no significant difference in age, gender, size of tumor, histologic grade, extent of tumor involvement, lymph node metastasis and tumor resectability according to p53 immunoreactivity. Comparison of survival duration according to p53 expression showed no significant difference. In conclusion, we reported 50 percent of p53 expression in extrahepatic bile duct cancers by immunohistochemical staining and we found no prognostic significance of p53 expression in dinicopathologic parameters.     

Determination of assimilable organic carbon (aoc) in ozonated water with acinetobacter calcoaceticus

The effect of ozone application in drinking water on the production of assimilable organic carbon (AOC) was evaluated. The typical procedure to determine AOC is suggested by van der Kooij, which is the method of bacterial growth measurement by colony‐forming units using the strain P17 and/or NOX. The bacterial indicator species used for this study is Acinetobacter calcoaceticus which was isolated and identified while ozonating Nakdong river water. This strain could never be isolated from the raw water, but this strain was the predominant isolate in the ozonated water. Within a short incubation time, this organism was found to replicate well on acetate and oxalate as the sole carbon sources. The yield coefficients of this organism for acetate and oxalate are the same order of magnitude as the value of P17 and NOX. With full‐scale experiments, A. calcoaceticus concentration was found to increase after ozonation, but did not decrease upon chlorination. In laboratory‐scale experiments with Yongsan river water, aldehyes were found to be produced in proportion to the ozone dose. The raw water contains low concentrations of aldehydes, but has a high AOC concentration. A correlation between aldehyde production and AOC production was observed in the tested water with ozonation.

Large purely refractive nonlinear index of single crystal P-toluenesulphonate (PTS) at 1600 nm

Z-scan measurements at 1600 nm on single-crystal PTS (p-toluene sulfonate) with single, 65 ps pulses gave a complex nonlinear refractive index coefficient of n₂=2.2(±0.3)×10^-12 cm²/W at 1 GW/cm² and α₂<0.5 cm/GW. This is the first highly nonlinear, organic material to satisfy the conditions imposed by the figures of merit     

Local synthesis of immunoglobulins in neuropathies

It is essential to know how the immune system acts in different neurological diseases, some of them non very well known or of unknown etiology at all. It was applied Reiber and Felgenhauer's formula in 56 patients with different diseases. IgA, IgM, IgG and albumin were quantified in sera and cerebrospinal fluid by simple immunodiffusion. It was observed more frequent IgG local synthesis and IgA in this sample.     

A Novel Body-tied Silicon-On-Insulator(SOI) n-channel Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor with Grounded Body Electrode

A novel body-tied silicon-on-insulator(SOI) n-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor with grounded body electrode named GBSOI nMOSFET has been developed by wafer bonding and etch-back technology. It has no floating body effect such as kink phenomena on the drain current curves, single-transistor latch and drain current overshoot inherent in a normal SOI device with floating body. We have characterized the interface trap density, kink phenomena on the drain current (I_DS-V_DS) curves, substrate resistance effect on the I_DS-V_DS curves, subthreshold current characteristics and single transistor latch of these transistors. We have confirmed that the GBSOI structure is suitable for high-speed and low-voltage VLSI circuits.     

旋波媒质基本参数的一种测试方法

本文提出了直接利用旋波材料板的Ｓ参数获得其基本参数的方法。通过自由空间测量旋波材料板的反射场和透射场，可以反演得到媒质的复介电常数、复磁导率、旋波量以及透射场的轴比和旋转角，测试程序简单，结果精度高。     

Role of child and maternal processes in the psychological adjustment of children with sickle cell disease.

In this study, 64% of children aged 7–12 yrs with sickle cell disease were found to have a parent-reported behavior problem, and 50% met the criteria for a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-III-Revised (DSM-III-R) diagnosis based on a structured clinical interview of the child. Internalizing types of behavior problems and diagnoses were the most frequent. Support was provided for a transactional stress and coping model in delineating the processes associated with child adjustment. In particular, maternal anxiety accounted for 16–33% of the variance in mother-reported internalizing and externalizing behavior problems, respectively, and child pain-coping strategies accounted for 21% of the variance in child-reported adjustment problems. Parallel BIST architecture for CAMs

A new parallel test algorithm and a built-in self test (BIST) architecture for efficient testing of various types of functional faults in content addressable memories (CAMs) are developed. The results show that efficient and practical testing with very low complexity and area overhead can be achieved
