The development of packaging films based on renewable materials is an important and active area of research today. This is the first extensive study focusing on film‐forming properties of an agrobiomass byproduct, namely, oat spelt arabinoxylan. A plasticizer was needed for cohesive film formation, and glycerol and sorbitol were compared. The tensile properties of the films varied with the type and amount of the polyol. With a 10% (w/w) plasticizer content, the films containing glycerol had higher tensile strength than the films containing sorbitol, but with a 40% plasticizer content, the result was the opposite. Sorbitol‐plasticized films retained their tensile properties better than films with glycerol during 5 months of storage. The films were semicrystalline with similar crystallinity indices of 0.20–0.26. The largest crystallites (9.5 nm) were observed in the film with 40% glycerol. The softening of films with 40% (w/w) glycerol started at a significantly lower relative humidity (RH) than that of the corresponding sorbitol‐containing films. The films with sorbitol also had lower water vapor permeability (WVP) than the films with glycerol. The films plasticized with 10% (w/w) sorbitol had a WVP value of 1.1 g mm/(m2·d·kPa) at the RH gradient of 0/54%. The oxygen permeability of films containing 10% (w/w) glycerol or sorbitol was similar: 3 cm3·μm/(m2·d·kPa) at 50–75% RH. A higher plasticizer content resulted in more permeable films. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) and a group‐contribution approach were used to develop an algorithm to predict activity coefficients for binary solutions. The Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm was used to train the ANN and to predict the parameters of the Margules equation. The ANN was trained using phase‐equilibrium database from DECHEMA. The selected systems include alcohols, phenols, aldehydes, ketones, and ethers. The trim mean based on 20% data elimination was selected as the best representation of the Margules‐equation parameters. The algorithm was validated with 121 VLE systems and results show that the ANN provides a relative improvement over the UNIFAC method. 相似文献

Mesoporous CeO2 particles are synthesized using a sol–gel method involving Pluronic P123 or F127 tri-block copolymer and cerium acetate hydrate. Transmission electron microscopy reveals well defined meso-channels of about 10 nm in diameter and a wall framework consisting of highly oriented polycrystalline CeO2. The [0 0 1] axis of the crystals is found to be aligned parallel to the meso-channels, and lattice coherency of [1 0 0] or [0 1 0] also exists in perpendicular plane to the channel. A cooperative self-assembly of the tri-block copolymer and Ce4+ species is believed to occur, along with the precipitation of nano-crystalline CeO2 in the sol–gel process. It is proposed that the preferential orientation may result from a favored linkage of the low-order Miller indices {0 0 1} planes of CeO2 to the PEO segment in the PEO–PPO–PEO tri-block copolymer micelles. The unique structural characteristics of meso-CeO2 appear to contribute to maintaining the pore integrity during the synthesis as well as in a post-fabrication in situ TEM heating test. 相似文献

Polyethylene pipes are commonly used in pipeline systems. Current methods used to determine the pipe pullout capacity do not consider the effects of diameter changes and cyclic movements that the pipelines may experience. Laboratory tests were performed to study the interface shearing resistance of polyethylene pipes under varying conditions. The tests were performed in a temperature-controlled room, where properties were investigated for thermal variations expected in the field. Two types of tests were performed: pull/push tests and cyclic tests. Test results indicated that reductions in pipe diameter affect the interface shear resistance that develops between the pipe and soil. As the pipe diameter gets smaller, the normal contact stresses at the interface decreases, causing a reduction in the interface shearing resistance directly proportional to the normal stress changes. Cyclic pipe movements also cause significant reduction in pipe pullout resistance. The test results indicated that the polyethylene pipe interface shear resistance can be significantly lower than the one determined using the current methods. The outgrowth of dendritic branching patterns proceeds by neurite elongation and branching. These actions are supported by growth cones, specialized dynamic structures at the tips of outgrowing neurites, in response to a multitude of intracellular and extracellular signals and mechanisms. Branching rates of growth cones and their temporal patterns thus reflect the extent and changes in these responses. The present study outlines a model framework to relate branching rates of individual growth cones with the growth rate of the entire dendritic tree. The branching rate of an individual growth cone is assumed to depend on the total number of growth cones at any given moment (representing competition between growth cones), on its position along the dendrite, and on a baseline component representing all other factors. Four different strategies are discussed for determining quantitatively these components from experimental data. The methods are applied in the analysis of dendritic trees of Wistar rat multipolar non-pyramidal neurons, quantitatively reconstructed at several developmental stages (Parnavelas J G and Uylings H B M 1980 Brain Res. 193 373-82, Uylings H B M, Parnavelas J G, Walg H and Veltman W A M 1980 Mikroskopie 37 220-4). In the past, the selection of resources to execute various warehouse operation services was done solely by experts. In this paper, a RFID-based Resource Management System (RFID-RMS) is designed to help users to select the most suitable resource usage packages for handling warehouse operation orders by retrieving and analysing useful knowledge from a case-based data warehouse for solutions in both time saving and cost effective manner. In addition, a pure integral-linear programming model using a branch and bound algorithm to define the optimum travel distance of forklifts is also developed and embedded in the proposed system. The proposed system, which is suitable for usage in a warehouse operation environment, enhances the effectiveness in formulating resource usage package and managing resource operation by integrating the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), case-based reasoning (CBR) technologies and the programming model for forklift route optimization. The authors evaluated the effect of a brief tailored smoking control intervention delivered during basic military training on tobacco use in a population of military personnel (N = 33,215). Participants were randomized to either a tobacco use intervention (smoking cessation, smokeless tobacco use cessation, or prevention depending on tobacco use history) or a health education control condition.
