Development of High Count Rate TES Microcalorimeters

To realize new TES imaging for high energy X-ray or gamma-ray spectrometer with a large pixel array and high count rate, we will try to develop a new radiation absorber self-adjusting the operating temperature and adopting an original reading out method of large pixel array using parallel biasing scheme. Our first prototype TES pixel using Au/Ti/Au tri-layer which consists of the small heat sensors and the radiation absorption area, and these are biased in serial. In this device, the current pulse with the decay time constant of less than 20 microseconds of incident X-rays from ⁵⁵Fe source were observed.      

Selectively dry-etched n+-GaAs/N-InAlAs/InGaAs HEMTs forLSI

High-speed n-InAlAs/InGaAs HEMT large-scale integrated circuits must have uniform device parameters. A selectively dry-etched n⁺ -GaAs/N-InAlAs/InGaAs HEMT which has a very uniform threshold voltage is discussed. Despite the high dislocation density at the n⁺-GaAs layer, its performance is excellent. For a gate length of 0.92 μm, the maximum transconductance of the HEMT is 390 mS/mm. The measured current-gain cutoff frequency is 23.7 GHz, and the maximum frequency of oscillation is 75.0 GHz. The standard deviation of the threshold voltage across a 2-in wafer is as low as 13 mV

Clinicopathological study of clear-cell tumors of the thyroid: an evaluation of 22 cases

Twenty-two cases of partial or wholly composed clear-cell thyroid tumors were reviewed to differentiate between a primary nodule and metastatic clear-cell renal carcinoma in the thyroid. Pathological reevaluation of HE-stained specimens, immunohistochemical observation using anti-thyroglobulin (TG) antibody, and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining were performed. The pathological characteristics in metastases from the kidney have a greater tendency to demonstrate a strikingly clear cytoplasm with small nuclei, rich vascularization, and a trabecular arrangement of tumor cells than do primary thyroid cases. The immunohistochemical TG staining in conjunction with PAS staining for the recognition of follicular colloid could provide much more reliable information of primary cases compared to that using TG staining alone. Clinically, in primary cases, the female:male ratio is substantially higher while the mean age is lower than in metastatic cases reflecting differentiated thyroid carcinoma. In conclusion, immunohistochemical staining for TG with PAS staining for the recognition of follicular colloid proved to be the most sensitive method for identifying primary clear cell thyroid tumors. In addition, a careful assessment of past and/or present kidney disorders to rule out metastatic renal cell carcinoma is advisable. Age, gender, and physiological findings are also informative when differentiating between them.     

Absorption saturation mechanism in short-period GaAs/AlAs superlattice self-electro-optic effect devices based on Wannier-Stark localization

We have studied absorption saturation characteristics in short-period GaAs/AlAs superlattice self-electro-optic effect devices based on Wannier-Stark localization. The disappearance of negative differential resistances due to absorption saturation was observed under high optical excitation intensities. To understand the mechanism, we measured the time-resolved photocurrent and time-resolved photoluminescence. Results revealed that the absorption saturation is caused by electric field screening originating from the space-charge of remaining holes due to effective mass filtering.     

Synthesis and antihypertensive activity of 4-(diazabicyclo[4.1.0]-heptenyloxy)benzopyran derivatives and their analogues

A series of 3,4-dihydro-3-hydroxy-4-[(5-oxo-3,4-diazabicyclo[4.1.0]hept- 2-en-2-yl)oxy]-2H-1-benzopyrans and their analogues were synthesized and evaluated on potassium channel opening and hypotensive activities. Compound (-)-13B with a (4-methyl-5-oxo-3,4-diazabicyclo[4.1.0]hept-2-en-2-yl)oxy group for the 4-position of the benzopyran ring was 3 times as potent as EMD 57283 (II), the lead compound, in hypotensive activity. The results would demonstrate that 5-oxo-3,4-diazabicyclo[4.1.0]hept-2-en-2-yloxy moieties are effective as the substituents at the 4-position of benzopyran-type potassium channel openers.     

(J, J′)-lossless factorization based on conjugation

This paper is concerned with a derivation of the state-space form of the (J, J′)-lossless factorization which contains both the inner-outer factorization and the spectral factorization of positive matrices as special cases. Also, the (J, J′)-lossless factorization gives a unified framework of H^∞ control theory. We use the method of conjugation which makes the derivation much simpler than the previous literature, most of which used the technique of (J, J′)-spectral factorization. A necessary and sufficient condition is represented in terms of two Riccati equations one of which is degenerated.     

Electrical properties and microstructure in the system ceria-alkaline earth oxide

The ionic conduction of oxygen in the ceria-alkaline earth oxide system was investigated as a function of temperature, partial pressure of oxygen and oxide composition, together with its crystal structure, density, and microstructure. Undoped ceria and its solid solution with alkaline earth oxides have a cubic fluorite structure. The ionic conductivity of ceria is greatly enhanced by additions of calcia and strontia, even when they are added in excess of the solubility limit. The conductivities of ceria-calcia and ceria-strontia were much higher than those of calcia-and yttria-stabilized zirconia. Up to the limit of calcia and strontia, the ionic transference number was nearly unity in the temperature range between 600 and 900°C. With an increase in calcia and strontia content, the ionic conductivity was little affected by the presence of a second phase of CaO and SrCeO₃.     

An interactive system for constructing cat''s cradle string diagram using GA

In many method of the cat's cradle string diagram processing in use today, there is no a strong emphasis on user interaction. This paper discusses a method for constructing cat's cradle string diagram in 2-D. The method uses a string representation and processing in 2-D which preserves the topology characteristics of the string diagram and also uses a small data volume. The inputted string diagram is transformed onto its cat's cradle string diagram by geometric transformation and GA. The method allows the user to interactively construct a cat's cradle string diagram. Three operations are used for constructing cat's cradle diagram, they are pull (over and under), release and exchange. An implemented program executed some shapes of cat's cradle for verifying the method.
