Mussel‐inspired chemistry has attracted widespread interest in membrane science and technology. Demonstrating the rapid growth of this field over the past several years, substantial progress has been achieved in both mussel‐inspired chemistry and membrane surface engineering based on mussel‐inspired coatings. At this stage, it is valuable to summarize the most recent and distinctive developments, as well as to frame the challenges and opportunities remaining in this field. In this review, recent advances in rapid and controllable deposition of mussel‐inspired coatings, dopamine‐assisted codeposition technology, and photoinitiated grafting directly on mussel‐inspired coatings are presented. Some of these technologies have not yet been employed directly in membrane science. Beyond discussing advances in conventional membrane processes, emerging applications of mussel‐inspired coatings in membranes are discussed, including as a skin layer in nanofiltration, interlayer in metal‐organic framework based membranes, hydrophilic layer in Janus membranes, and protective layer in catalytic membranes. Finally, some critical unsolved challenges are raised in this field and some potential pathways are proposed to address them.  相似文献

Power generation characteristics of a sandwich‐type thermoelectric generator in which the heat source is embedded into thermoelectric elements are investigated. Our previous work on a similar concept only considered a uniform heat source distribution inside thermoelectric elements. In this work, the effect of the spatial distribution of a heat source is examined. In particular, the effect of the concentration of heat source near the one end, that is, the hot end, is intensively studied as a potential means of improving the efficiency of the device. Although the effects of heat source concentration in impractical cases without heat transfer limitations on the cold side remain ambiguous, it become clear that heat source concentration indeed has positive effects in more realistic cases with finite heat transfer coefficients imposed on the cold side. Because of the relatively low efficiency of typical thermoelectric generation, a significant amount of heat must be dissipated from the cold end of the thermoelectric element. Greater heat source concentration near the hot end leads to more effective utilization of available heat source, reduces the amount of heat rejected at the cold end, and lowers the hot end temperature of the thermoelectric element. Overall, it is suggested that heat source concentration can be used as a method to achieve more efficient operation and better structural integrity of the system. A polysilicon emitter RCA transistor (an ultra-thin interfacial oxide layer exists between polysilicon and silicon emitter) is presented which can operate at 77 K for the first time. An ultra-thin (1.5 nm) interfacial oxide layer is grown deliberately between polysilicon and silicon emitter using RCA oxidation and excellent device stability is obtained after rapid thermal annealing (RTA) treatment in nitrogen atmosphere. The RCA transistor exhibits good electrical performance at very low temperature for an emitter area of 3 × 8 μm2. The maximum toggle frequency of a 1:2 static divider is 1.2 GHz and 732 MHz at 300 K and 77 K, respectively  相似文献

High-level integration of the Bluetooth and 802.11b WLAN radio systems in the 2.4-GHz ISM band is demonstrated in scaled CMOS. A dual-mode RF transceiver IC implements all transmit and receive functions including the low-noise amplifier (LNA), 0-dBm power amplifier, up/down mixers, synthesizers, channel filtering, and limiting/automatic gain control for both standards in a single chip without doubling the required silicon area to reduce the combined system cost. This is achieved by sharing the frequency up/down conversion circuits in the RF section and performing the required baseband channel filtering and gain functions with just one set of reconfigurable channel filter and amplifier for both modes. A chip implemented in 0.18-/spl mu/m CMOS occupies 4/spl times/4 mm/sup 2/ including pad and consumes 60 and 40 mA for RX and TX modes, respectively. The dual-mode receiver exhibits -80-dBm sensitivity at 0.1% BER in Bluetooth mode and at 12-dB SNR in WLAN mode.  相似文献

Faced with growing fierce competitive pressure on all fronts and market saturation, traditional telecommunication operators are now struggling to find the breakthrough approach by which they may successfully reshape their role from network service providers to multimedia service providers. They are re-examining their voice-centric business models and deploying next-generation networks (NGN) for QoS-guaranteed delivery of multimedia quadruple play services (QPSs). To cost effectively realize these paradigm shifts, the existing ";stability-oriented"; network operations and management infrastructure and processes should be migrated into ";service-oriented"; and ";business-driven"; network operations and management within the context of today's multimedia and converged business environments. In this article, I'd like to introduce Network Operations and Management 2.0 (NOM 2.0), which is an innovative next generation operations and management paradigm for telephone company business agility and customer value creation. KT recently proposed Telco 2.0 [1], a new role and business model in the IP world to create customer value. NOM 2.0 is a key component needed to realize the Telco 2.0 goals. Telcos need to transform their operations and management framework into a human-centric and highly intelligent and automated one, and become the market leader by providing an agile operation and management framework within ever-changing operations and business environments. The fabrication of a flexible field‐emission device (FED) using single‐walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) network films as the conducting electrodes (anode and cathode) and thin multi‐walled CNT/TEOS hybrid films as the emitters is reported. P‐type doping with gold ions and passivation with tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) made the SWNT network film highly conductive and environmentally stable, and hence a good alternative to conventional indium tin oxide electrodes. CNT/TEOS hybrid emitters showed high current density, low turn‐on field, and long‐term emission stability, compared with CNT emitters; these characteristics can be attributed to the TEOS sol, acting both as a protective layer surrounding the nanotube tip, and as an adhesive layer enhancing the nanotube adhesion to the substrate. All‐CNT‐based flexible FEDs fabricated by this approach showed high flexibility in field emission characteristics and extremely bright electron emission patterns.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider underlay cognitive radio (CR) networks where an amount of interference caused by secondary stations (STAs) has to be kept below a predefined level, which is called interference temperature. We propose opportunistic p-persistent carrier sense multiple access schemes for the CR networks, which opportunistically exploit wireless channel conditions in transmitting data to the secondary access point. We also devise an adaptive interference-level control technique to further improve quality-of-service of a primary network by limiting the excessive interference due to collisions among STAs. The performances of the proposed schemes are mathematically analyzed, and they are validated with extensive computer simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed schemes achieve near optimal throughput of the secondary network while they are backward-compatible to the conventional p-persistent CSMA scheme.  相似文献
