The high-temperature operation of a silicon carbide gate turn-off thyristor is evaluated for use in inductively loaded switching circuits. Compared to purely resistive load elements, inductive loads subject the switching device to higher internal power dissipation. The ability of silicon carbide components to operate at elevated temperatures and high power dissipations are important factors for their use in future power conversion/control systems. In this work, a maximum current density of 540 A/cm2 at 600 V was switched at a frequency of 2 kHz and at several case temperatures up to 150°C. The flow and fracture behavior of Be-Al alloys were determined in tension with different levels of superimposed pressure. The Be-Al alloys were prepared by Brush Wellman, Inc. (Cleveland, OH) from prealloyed powders processed to either a hot isostatically pressed (“hipped”) or cold isostatically pressed and extruded condition. Significant effects of pressure on both the flow and ductility have been observed at room temperature, with implications on the formability of these materials. The effects of changes in processing conditions and stress state on the flow and fracture behavior are summarized in addition to both optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination of the fracture surfaces. Separate other studies on the alloy constituents (e.g., Al and Be) are also reported. The results are also compared to previous works on monolithic materials and composites tested with high pressure.  相似文献

 In this paper, the nonlinear response of elastic membranes with arbitrary shape under partial and full ponding loads has been analyzed. Large deflections are considered, which result from nonlinear kinematic relations. The problem is formulated in terms of the displacements components and the three coupled nonlinear governing equations are solved using the analog equation method (AEM). The membrane may be prestressed either by prescribed boundary displacements or tractions. Using the concept of the analog equation the three coupled nonlinear equations are replaced by three uncoupled Poisson's equations with fictitious sources under the same boundary conditions. Subsequently, the fictitious sources are established using a procedure based on the BEM and the displacement components as well as the stress resultants at any point of the membrane are evaluated from their integral representations. In addition to the geometrical nonlinearity, the ponding problem is itself nonlinear, because the ponding load depends on the deflection surface that it produces. Iterative schemes are developed which converge to the equilibrium state of the membrane under the ponding loads. Several membranes are analyzed which illustrate the method and demonstrate its efficiency and accuracy. The method has all the advantages of the pure BEM, since the discretization and integration is limited only to the boundary. Received 28 July 2001  相似文献

Smaller cities seeking new economic development vehicles have embraced the growth of minor league sports. In an attempt to eliminate the threat of competition and maintain a sense of stability, four local governments purchased their respective minor league baseball franchise. This action may serve as a model for local governments that have invested heavily in professional sports as an economic development strategy. This study investigates the benefits of ownership in terms of stability for development, economic gain, and increased civic spirit. The study finds that publicly owned teams can be successfully used to anchor comprehensive plans for economic development, and that public ownership provides a way to pay the costs of the sports facilities and the debt service. There is little evidence to show that publicly owned teams increase civic spirit. However, this model presents some challenges that may prevent its widespread utilization.  相似文献

The utility of heart-rate variability (HRV) to index important aspects of neural control of the heart has made it one of the most valuable tools for researchers interested in health and behavior. However, most of the literature and extant data on the central origins of HRV have been derived from animal models. As yet little is known about the central nervous system (CNS) origins and concomitants in humans. In the following we will briefly detail a set of neural structures that have been associated with important CNS functions including cardiac regulation and emotional regulation. We will briefly summarize recent data using pharmacological, neuroimaging, and psychophysiological techniques that have examined CNS concomitants of HRV especially during emotion. Based on these and other data will we report the results of a computational model that examined the interactions of several neural structures and their effect on emotion-related HRV.  相似文献

Commercial active carbons were subjected to abrasion in a spouted bed and as a result, active carbons, with external layers removed to different degrees, were obtained. For active carbons so obtained, physicochemical properties were determined from densimetric and adsorption investigation.It was found that radial changes in the properties of active carbons resulted from the nature of the activation reaction.It seems that the method of working by abrasion in spouted beds can also be used for investigating other processes taking place in fluid—solid system.  相似文献
