We have attempted to develop high‐performance and safe fuel cells by using ammonium formate as a solid (powder) fuel. This solid fuel has the potential of safer transportability than liquid fuels such as methanol from the viewpoint of toxicity and flammability. In order to make use of some of the advantages of ammonium formate, we investigated the oxidation characteristics of ammonium formate with respect to a Pt electrode. Cyclic voltammograms indicate that ammonium formate has high oxidation activity with respect to a Pt electrode. We have also found that the oxidation of ammonium formate can be improved by the addition of Ir to Pt catalysts. It is highly likely that ammonium formate will be useful as a solid (powder) fuel for polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells. Electrooptic planar deflector switches with thin-film PLZT active elements   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
First prototypes of electrooptic (EO) planar deflector switches (PDSs) are fabricated with hybrid integration on Si substrates. Planar optical modules, made in silica-on-silicon technology, consist of input and output (I/O) waveguide microlenses facing each other and slab waveguides in between. The modules interconnect the I/O fibers with laterally collimated light beams less than 400 /spl mu/m in width at distances up to 100 mm with losses lower than 3 dB. Thin lead lanthanum zirconium titanate (PLZT) films with prism-shaped electrodes grown on SrTiO/sub 3/ substrates form the deflector elements. The PLZT films are more than 10 /spl mu/m thick with EO coefficients about 40 pm/V. The deflector assembly technology provides chip vertical positioning accuracy better than 1 /spl mu/m. The deflector chips are attached to the optical substrates with thermo-compression flip-chip bonding. The optical power losses of the modules with test silica chips can be as low as 3.6 dB. However, the lowest module losses achieved with PLZT are about 10 dB. The channel-to-channel switching operations are demonstrated at about 40 V and switching times less than 500 ns.  相似文献

Resonance vibration of a water droplet located on the surface of a hydrophobic sheet under an AC electric field was investigated experimentally. In order to confirm the effect of the surface property of hydrophobic materials on the resonance phenomena of a water droplet, three kinds of hydrophobic materials, silicone rubber (SR), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and polydimethylsiloxane-grafted fluoropolymer (PGF) sheet were used. A single water droplet with a volume ranging from 3 to 30 /spl mu/L was placed between parallel electrodes, where a tangential electric field was formed along the surface of the hydrophobic sheet. A water droplet under the AC field vibrates strongly only at a particular frequency range. The resonance frequency, when the water droplet vibrates, decreases with increasing the volume of the water droplet. The resonance frequency on the SR sheet is lower than that on the PTFE and the PGF sheet. The resonance frequency and the magnitude of the deformation of the water droplet depend on the surface properties of the hydrophobic material.  相似文献

A simplified simulation method was described for charactering mismatching photovoltaic performance integrated with bypass and string diodes, which are configured additionally compared with the tradition design for avoiding deterioration to modules in series or in parallel connection. The Newton-Raphson method was adopted for numerical simulations, with some computation problem discussed for fast convergence. It was proven to be suitable and effective when model validation coinciding with manufacturer specification. Furthermore, maximal power point (MPP) peak positions were reviewed roundly via simulations of the total characteristic curves. Multi-power peaks with multi-diodes installed were also investigated. The proposed method can be benefit for better comprehension on the physical circuit and provides greater program expansibility, and such simulation researches should be applicable for manufacturer to evaluate the configuration of photovoltaic module. © 2009 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. This letter proposes a novel and simple method for estimating solar radiation, named the ‘three‐point method’. The three points used to form the model are sunrise, sunset, and the maximum radiation point. The issue of obtaining maximum radiation is performed with the weighting evaluation of the HOTTEL and ASHRAE models. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed model is shown by simulation results. This model is equally applicable in any part of the world with a reassessment of the weighting factors for the maximum radiation. © 2012 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Single crystals of the ferroelectric BaTi2O5 and BaTiO3 were prepared from a solution of 33-mol% BaO and 67-mol% TiO2 by a rapid cooling method. The dielectric constant () and dielectric loss tangent (tan) were measured in a wide temperature range of 10–860 K and in a frequency range of 0.1–3,000 kHz. The along the b-axis of the BaTi2O5 crystal, prepared in air, shows a sharp dielectric anomaly reaching 30,000 at the ferroelectric Curie temperature of TC = 752 K. By contrast, the crystal prepared in a reducing atmosphere shows a diffuse phase transition near TC = 703 K. The values of and tan are compared between these three crystals consisting of two kinds of BaTi2O5 and one BaTiO3.  相似文献

Mechanical parts, plants, and cross‐linkages inspected with magnetic‐particle testing (MT) are typically complex 3D shapes. In complex 3D shape portions, because a magnetizer often cannot be configured to inspection portions and the test object cannot be appropriately magnetized, there is a possibility of overlooking a crack in such an instance. Thus, MT system development that was successfully able to detect omnidirectional cracks in 3D shape portions was considered in this study's trials. Two multi‐coil type magnetizers were hence arranged face‐to‐face, and the magnetization of omnidirectional scenarios for all surfaces of 3D shape test object was evaluated.  相似文献

The flux‐modulating synchronous machine (FMSM) is a new type of multipole SM with nonoverlapping concentrated armature and field windings on the stator. This paper compares the output characteristics of two FMSMs through finite element analysis (FEA) and experiments. In both of the FMSMs, the attachment positions of the armature and field windings are swapped. To determine the reason for the discrepancies in their output characteristics, unsaturated inductances were calculated using a d‐q equivalent circuit. In addition, the calculated results of the inductances were confirmed through a visualization of the leakage fluxes using FEA. The results of the study show that the synchronous inductance can be reduced by attaching the armature winding to the air‐gap side of the stator teeth and that the reduction leads to an increase in output power.  相似文献

We newly generated an RNA-sequencing-based microRNA (miRNA) expression signature of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Analysis of the signature revealed that both strands of some miRNAs, including miR-139-5p (the guide strand) and miR-139-3p (the passenger strand) of miR-139, were downregulated in HNSCC tissues. Analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas confirmed the low expression levels of miR-139 in HNSCC. Ectopic expression of these miRNAs attenuated the characteristics of cancer cell aggressiveness (e.g., cell proliferation, migration, and invasion). Our in silico analyses revealed a total of 28 putative targets regulated by pre-miR-139 (miR-139-5p and miR-139-3p) in HNSCC cells. Of these, the GNA12 (guanine nucleotide-binding protein subunit alpha-12) and OLR1 (oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor 1) expression levels were identified as independent factors that predicted patient survival according to multivariate Cox regression analyses (p = 0.0018 and p = 0.0104, respectively). Direct regulation of GNA12 and OLR1 by miR-139-3p in HNSCC cells was confirmed through luciferase reporter assays. Moreover, overexpression of GNA12 and OLR1 was detected in clinical specimens of HNSCC through immunostaining. The involvement of miR-139-3p (the passenger strand) in the oncogenesis of HNSCC is a new concept in cancer biology. Our miRNA-based strategy will increase knowledge on the molecular pathogenesis of HNSCC.  相似文献

A quantification system for lysophospholipids (lysoPL) was developed, especially for blood samples, using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). However, the lysoPL measurement in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has not been validated. Therefore, the present study aimed to validate the lysoPL measurement using CSF samples and to elucidate the possible clinical significance of the lysoPL measurement in CSF. For the validation, we observed a good precision and linearity in a sample with high lysoPL levels. The concentrations of lysoPL changed after incubation but the changes were smaller than those observed for serum samples. Moreover, we observed that the CSF levels of 16:0, 18:0 lysophosphatidylcholine, and 18:0, 18:1, and 20:4 lysophosphatidic acid were significantly higher in subjects with central nervous system invasion caused by hematological malignancies or carcinoma than in subjects with no abnormal CSF test results. In conclusion, an LC–MS/MS quantification system for lysoPL in CSF might be useful and could be applied to clinical laboratory testing.  相似文献
