Prediction of minimum fluidization velocity for vibrated fluidized bed

The prediction of minimum fluidization velocity for vibrated fluidized bed was performed. The Geldart group A and C particles were used as the fluidizing particles. The method based on Ergun equation was used to predict the minimum fluidization velocity. The calculated results were compared with the experimental data.The calculated results of minimum fluidization velocity are in good agreement with experimental data for Geldart group A particles. For group C particles, the difference between the calculated results and experimental data is large because of the formation of agglomerates. In this case, the determination of agglomerate diameter is considered to be necessary to predict the minimum fluidization velocity.     

The significance of urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase for predicting early stage diabetic nephropathy

We studied urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) in the early stage of diabetic nephropathy in 27 non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients with a microalbumin level below 20 mg on 24-hour urine sample. Microalbumin and NAG excretion were measured in 24-hour urine samples collected on three separate occasions within seven days of admission. Creatinine clearance was determined simultaneously. There was a significant negative correlation between the creatinine clearance and 24-hour urinary NAG (r = -0.38, p < 0.05). Elevation of urinary NAG may indicate decreased renal function during early stage NIDDM nephropathy.     

Long-span optical FSK heterodyne single-filter detection transmission experiment using a phase-tunable DFB laser diode

High receiver sensitivity (?51.9 dBm) and long span (243 km) transmission expriments have been achieved with a 140 Mbit/s optical FSK heterodyne single-filter detection system, using a phase-tunable DFB laser diode as a transmitter. This has enabled direct FSK modulation without waveform distortion. Also, a 280 Mbit/s 204 km transmission experiment has been carried out successfully.     

2.5 Gb/s CPFSK coherent multichannel transmission experiment forhigh capacity trunk line system

A 2.5-Gb/s CPFSK four-channel FDM transmission experiment has been conducted with a 150-km-long nondispersion-shifted fiber. This system employed a wideband channel space controller, a common polarization control, and a channel identification function. These were indispensable for realizing a high-capacity, coherent FDM trunk line system. The results of the experiment confirm the feasibility of trunk line systems with over 160-Gb/s capacity     

Immunohistochemical localization of endothelin-1, endothelin-3 and endothelin receptors in human pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma

Endothelin (ET) and its receptor system have been shown to exert various biological effects on different types of cells in addition to their well-known vasoconstrictor activity. Recently ET-1, ET-3 and the ETB receptor have been shown to play an important role in the development of neural crest-derived cells and, in this context, pheochromocytomas have been reported to harbor ET-1. Endothelin-3 or ET receptor subtypes, however, have not been examined in pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma so far. In the present study the immunohistochemical localization of ET-1/big ET-1, ET-3/big ET-3 and the ETA and ETB receptors were investigated to clarify the biological characteristics of these two tumors using 32 pheochromocytomas and 11 extra-adrenal paragangliomas. Endothelin-1/big ET-1 was detected in 19 pheochromocytomas (59%) and eight paragangliomas (72%), while ET-3/big ET-3 was detected in 10 pheochromocytomas (31%) and three paragangliomas (27%). The ETA receptor was found in 21 pheochromocytomas (66%) and in eight paragangliomas (73%), while the ETB receptor was found in 25 pheochromocytomas (78%) and in eight paragangliomas (73%). Normal adrenomedullary cells lacked each antigen examined. Endothelin-immunoreactive tumor cells were distributed focally or in a manner scattered, while receptor-immunostained tumor cells were distributed with a focal pattern for the ETA receptor and with a focal or diffuse pattern for the ETB receptor. Endothelin and its receptor coexisted in the same tumor in 21 of 28 ET-positive pheochromocytomas and in eight of 10 ET-positive paragangliomas. In addition, seven pheochromocytomas and two paragangliomas revealed positivity of the receptor(s) irrespective of the absence of ET-immunoreactivity. In conclusion, ET and its receptor are frequently and concomitantly expressed in the pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma. From the highly frequent expression of this system or the receptor(s), ET-receptor-mediated signal transduction of these tumors concerning growth and/or cell survival is expected, although definite biological significance of this ligand-receptor system in these tumors awaits further investigation.     

An optical FSK heterodyne dual filter detection system for takingadvantage of DFB LD applications

An optimum system configuration for an optical frequency-shift keying (FSK) heterodyne dual-filter detection system with distributed feedback laser diodes (DFB LDs) is investigated, taking into consideration LD phase noise influence. Experimental and theoretical examination show that an IF filter bandwidth greater than 10 times the beat spectral linewidth is necessary to avoid LD phase noise influence. A 301-km long-span transmission experiment has been successfully carried out with an optimum configuration for 34 Mb/s. High receiver sensitivity, -61.8 dBm with more than 10 dB improvement over the direct detection system, has also been achieved. Experimental results at higher bit rates of 140, 200, and 280 Mb/s indicate that a modulation index greater than two is desirable to avoid cross talk between mark and space signals. With sufficient frequency deviations, high receiver sensitivities of -54.7 dBm (140 Mb/s) and -52.5 dBm (200 Mb/s) have been achieved. These represent 9.6- and 9-dB sensitivity improvement, respectively, over direct detection systems. A guide for FSK dual-filter detection system design is derived from the experimental and theoretical results. Potential application regions for a dual-filter detection system with DFB LDs are determined     

Mutational analysis of structure--activity relationships in human tumor necrosis factor-alpha

To determine the region of human tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-), essential for cytotoxic activity against mouse L-M cells,single amino-acid-substituted TNF- mutant proteins (muteins)were produced in Escherichia coli by protein engineering techniques.An expression plasmid for TNF- was mutagenized by passage throughan E.coli mutD5 mutator strain and by oligonucleotide-directedmutagenesis. Approximately 100 single amino-acid-substitutedTNF- muteins were produced and assayed for cytotoxic activity.The cytotoxic activities of purified TNF- muteins, e.g. TNF-31T,-32Y, -82D, -85H, -115L, -141Y, -144K and -146E, were < 1%of that of parent TNF-. These results indicate that the integrityof at least four distinct regions of the TNF- molecule is requiredfor full biological activity. These regions are designated asfollows: region I, from position 30 to 32; region II, from position82 to 89; region III, from position 115 to 117; region FV, fromposition 141 to 146. In addition, TNF-141Y could not completelycompete with parent TNF- for binding to the receptor. This demonstratesthat region IV, and at least aspartk acid at position 141, mustbe involved in the TNF receptor binding site.     

上海地区建筑能耗计算用典型年气象数据的研究

以同济大学某教学楼为研究对象,对比了用EnergyPlus模拟计算得到的全年耗电量和实测耗电量,研究了用于建筑能耗动态计算的5套典型年气象数据的可靠性,得出了CTYW气象数据最接近现实情况的结论。对其中影响较大的参数如室外气温、湿度和太阳辐射量进行分析和比较,指出所用5套典型年气象数据间的差异来自观测值的缺损和统计处理模型的不完善,特别是日射模型存在一定缺陷。
