The aerodynamic effect of the air jet that supports the polymeric films produced in the film blowing process is studied theoretically. The nonlinear coupling between the air and the polymer is examined by assuming steady, axisymmetric, and isothermal flow for both phases. The governing equations for the polymer are simplified by following the thin‐film approximation and the corresponding ones for the air are derived by applying a boundary‐layer type analysis. The latter are solved analytically by first applying the Mangler transformation that reduces the boundary layer equations for the axisymmetric case to those for a plane boundary layer. Then a similarity solution is obtained, allowing the shear stress and the pressure on the outer polymer/air interface to be evaluated in terms of the film shape only. The final set of ordinary differential equations for the film is solved numerically using finite differences. The results show that the force caused by the airflow has a significant effect on the film shape and the characteristics of the final product. POLYM. ENG. This paper examines the quality of transmission of voice over cellular, packet-switched networks. The medium access mechanism in the uplink is simulated under various statistical multiplexing scenarios in order to assess the effect of front-end clipping on voice quality. Moreover, the simulation is implemented in a real-time demonstration platform utilized to acquire subjective indicators of voice quality by performing Mean Opinion Score (MOS) tests. Results from the MOS tests are reported, and an analysis of the obtained speech samples is presented. Finally, the results are summarized and potential further directions for the simulation tool and the speech models are discussed.  相似文献

While experience gained through the offshore wind energy projects currently operating is valuable, a major uncertainty in estimating power production lies in the prediction of the dynamic links between the atmosphere and wind turbines in offshore regimes. The objective of the ENDOW project was to evaluate, enhance and interface wake and boundary layer models for utilization offshore. The project resulted in a significant advance in the state of the art in both wake and marine boundary layer models, leading to improved prediction of wind speed and turbulence profiles within large offshore wind farms. Use of new databases from existing offshore wind farms and detailed wake profiles collected using sodar provided a unique opportunity to undertake the first comprehensive evaluation of wake models in the offshore environment. The results of wake model performance in different wind speed, stability and roughness conditions relative to observations provided criteria for their improvement. Mesoscale model simulations were used to evaluate the impact of thermal flows, roughness and topography on offshore wind speeds. The model hierarchy developed under ENDOW forms the basis of design tools for use by wind energy developers and turbine manufacturers to optimize power output from offshore wind farms through minimized wake effects and optimal grid connections. The design tools are being built onto existing regional‐scale models and wind farm design software which was developed with EU funding and is in use currently by wind energy developers. Autonomous wind power systems are among the most interesting and environmentally friendly technological solutions for the electrification of remote consumers. In many cases, however, the battery contribution to the initial or the total operational cost is found to be dominant, discouraging further penetration of the available wind resource. This is basically the case for areas possessing a medium–low wind potential. On the other hand, several isolated consumers are located in regions having the regular benefit of an abundant and reliable solar energy supply. In this context the present study investigates the possibility of reducing the battery size of a stand‐alone wind power installation by incorporating a small photovoltaic generator. For this purpose an integrated energy production installation based exclusively on renewable energy resources is hereby proposed. Subsequently a new numerical algorithm is developed that is able to estimate the appropriate dimensions of a similar system. According to the results obtained by long‐term experimental measurements, the introduction of the photovoltaic panels considerably improves the operational and financial behaviour of the complete installation owing to the imposed significant battery capacity diminution. Future mobile networks are expected to be complex heterogeneous systems. On the one hand this will enable users to take advantage of a number of different access technologies. On the other hand it will seriously affect network management procedures since more extensive operations and decisions will have to be dealt with. To tackle these challenges a number of new dynamic mechanisms need to be designed. It is imperative that certain network management tasks have to be performed without human intervention to reduce the OPEX costs and achieve faster responses in different events. To achieve this goal, the introduction of self‐x functionalities, combined with cognitive mechanisms and the ability to reconfigure network entities and terminals, is required. Moreover, the introduction of a new pilot channel needs to be considered to assist the terminals in selecting the most suitable radio access technology according to their requirements. We present the functional architecture of an evolved network that was designed in the context of the EU‐funded IP project ‘E3: End‐to‐End Efficiency’. This architecture aims to enhance existing procedures usually performed in traditional operation and maintenance systems (e.g. spectrum management, network planning, configuration actions). We explain the rationale of our design and provide specific examples to illustrate the role of the different functional entities and their interfaces. Data-acquisition systems are widely used in renewable energy source (RES) applications in order to collect data regarding the installed system performance, for evaluation purposes. In this paper, the development of a computer-based system for RES systems monitoring is described. The proposed system consists of a set of sensors for measuring both meteorological (e.g. temperature, humidity etc.) and electrical parameters (photovoltaics voltage and current etc.). The collected data are first conditioned using precision electronic circuits and then interfaced to a PC using a data-acquisition card. The LABVIEW program is used to further process, display and store the collected data in the PC disk. The proposed architecture permits the rapid system development and has the advantage of flexibility in the case of changes, while it can be easily extended for controlling the RES system operation.  相似文献

A control program of Triatoma infestans has been carried out in Alto del Carmen, an endemic chagasic rural county in the III Region, Chile. The program started in 1988 with an attack phase consisting in a masshouse spraying with residual insecticide, followed by an entomological surveillance phase with health education for community participation and vector detection in eventually reinfested houses. A yearly evaluation in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 was carried out in order to determine the effectiveness of vector control activities. In 1992, 24.1% of dwellings was infested, whereas in 1993, 1994 and 1995 the infestation rates were 3.9%, 2.8% and 4.0% respectively. The similar infestation rates found in 1993, 1994 and 1995 suggest passive dispersion of triatomas from areas without surveillance. Additionally, in 1994, 110 (16.0%) out of 688 examined people resulted serologically positive. It is noteworthy that all of the children in the 0-4 year age group--born after the attack phase--resulted serologically negative. This fact may indicate the interruption of vectorial transmission of Chagas' disease in Alto del Carmen county. It is concluded that the control activities performed in the county constitute good strategies to the Nacional Program of Control of T. infestans, but for the success of such a program it is necessary to integrate the efforts of all endemic areas with an active community participation.  相似文献

The buckling and free vibration problem of a thin composite antisymmetric angle-ply laminated circular cylindrical shell is studied. The Donnell-type equations of motion, in terms of the shell middle surface displacement components, are used and solved approximately by means of Galerkin's method. Numerical results are presented and the expectation that the bending-stretching coupling phenomenon rapidly dies out as the number of layers increases is confirmed.  相似文献

The ceaseless evolution of wireless communications is reflected nowadays on the introduction of Beyond-3G (B3G) systems, characterized by the coexistence and cooperation of various Radio Access Technologies (RATs), over a common infrastructure. Major facilitator of this convergence is the advent of cognitive networks, which deploy elements (base stations and mobile terminals) that are able to proactively adapt to environmental stimuli, so that to optimize their performance. Part of the adaptation action takes place in cognitive base stations that own several reconfigurable transceivers, which are controlled by appropriate management functionality and may dynamically change their operating parameters. Each reconfiguration set includes a specific RAT, carrier frequency, as well as demand volume to be allocated per transceiver. Accordingly, proper evaluation of the various candidate reconfiguration sets appears to be of high significance. To this effect, in this paper we consider a cognitive network segment with transceivers operating at 3G RAT/carrier and we solve the DAMC problem (Demand Allocation into Multiple Carriers problem), which aims at evaluating and selecting the optimum policy to allocate the demand into the available 3G carrier frequencies. Optimality is expressed in terms of minimizing the total transmitted/received power per base station, thus deciding for the reconfigurations with the least impact on network interference. Indicative simulation scenarios and results are also presented for the validation and verification of the proposed functionality.
