For several years innovative membranes that combine moisture barrier capability with relatively high vapor permeability have been available. However, data are lacking that quantify their performance for specific roofing systems and, in particular, those used for historic building in Italy.Therefore in the present study we have characterized the vapor transmission performance of several of these high permeability membranes and compared them with more traditional low permeability ones. The characterization was both experimental and numeric: timber roof and concrete roof test samples with different moisture barrier membranes were first submitted to steady climatic conditions on opposite sides in order to get severe conditions for moisture migration through the samples. The increase in moisture content of the samples over a period of four months was then used to calibrate a simulation model with the thermohygrometric parameters of the different test sample materials such that good agreement was obtained between the experimental and the calculated results. The simulation model was next used to estimate the behavior of the wood roof samples with the different membranes when exposed to one year climatic conditions of three Italian cities.The results show that for all the test samples moisture accumulation developed in the cold season and was eliminated in warm season, but in the case of a cold-humid climate (Venice), important differences—for health problems and materials durability—appeared in the moisture accumulation within the test samples with innovative high permeability or traditional membranes.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To identify ladder-related fracture injuries and determine how ladder fall fractures differ from other ladder-related injuries. METHODS: Ladder-related fracture cases were identified using narrative text and coded data from workers' compensation claims. Potential cases were identified by text searches and verified with claim records. Injury characteristics were compared using proportionate injury ratios. RESULTS: Of 9826 ladder-related injuries, 7% resulted in fracture cases. Falls caused 89% of fractures and resulted in more medical costs and disability days than other injuries. Frequent mechanisms were ladder instability (22%) and lost footing (22%). Narrative text searches identified 17% more fractures than injury codes alone. Males were more likely to sustain a fall fracture than other injuries; construction workers were most likely, and retail workers were the least likely to sustain fractures. CONCLUSIONS: Fractures are an important injury from ladder falls, resulting more serious consequences than other ladder-related injuries. Text analysis can improve the quality and utility of workers compensation data by identifying and understanding injury causes. Proportionate injury ratios are also useful for making cross-group comparisons of injury experience when denominator data are not available. Greater attention to risk factors for ladder falls is needed for targeting interventions.  相似文献

A study has been carried out on the use of knowledge-based computer-aided design methodology for the design of thermal systems. An expert system is developed using a Prolog-based front end, where the design rules, material databases, computational procedures, and the relevant expert knowledge are implemented. A combination of quantitative and heuristic inputs are employed in the design process. The basic approach employs an iterative redesign strategy, starting with an initial design obtained from the available knowledge base, and the design parameters are iteratively varied until the specified design rules and constraints are satisfied. The general approach can be employed for a variety of thermal systems. The application to a practical system is demonstrated by the design of an electrical furnace used in the thermal processing of materials. The results from the numerical simulation and design of this system are presented to indicate the basic features and the versatility of the expert system.  相似文献

A flux monitor diode is being explored as an option for measurement of the output of an X-ray tube that is used for active transmission measurements on a pipe containing UF6 gas. The measured flux can be used to correct for any instabilities in the X-ray tube or the high voltage power supply. For this measurement, we are using a silicon junction p-n photodiode, model AXUV100GX, developed by International Radiation Detectors, Inc. (IRD, Inc.). This diode has a silicon thickness of 104 μ and a thin (3-7 nm) silicon dioxide junction passivating, protective entrance window. These diodes have been extensively tested for radiation hardness in the UV range. However, we intend to operate mainly in the 10-40 keV X-ray region. We are performing radiation hardness testing over this energy range, with the energy spectrum that would pass through the diode during normal operation. A long-term measurement was performed at a high flux, which simulated over 80 years of operation. No significant degradation was seen over this time. Fluctuations were found to be within the 0.1% operationally acceptable error range. After irradiation, an I-V characterization showed a temporary irradiation effect which decayed over time. This effect is small because we operate the diode without external bias.  相似文献

The International Reactor Innovative and Secure is a modular pressurised water reactor with an integral design. This means that all the primary system components, such as the steam generators, pumps, pressuriser and control rod drive mechanisms, are located inside the reactor vessel, which requires a large diameter. For the sake of better reliability and safety, it is desirable to achieve the reduction of vessel embrittlement as well as the lowering of the dose beyond the vessel. The former can be easily accomplished by the presence of a wide downcomer, filled with water, which surrounds the core region, while the latter needs the presence of additional internal shields. An optimal shielding configuration is under investigation, for reducing the ex-vessel dose due to activated internals and for limiting the amount of the biological shielding. MCNP 4C calculations were performed to evaluate the neutron and the gamma dose during operation and the 60Co activation of various shields configurations. The gamma dose beyond the vessel from activation of its structural components was estimated in a shutdown condition, with the Monte Carlo code FLUKA 2002 and the MicroShield software. The results of the two codes are in agreement and show that the dose is sufficiently low, even without an additional shield.  相似文献

Coplanar Al/graphene/Al junctions fabricated on the same graphene sheet deposited on silicon carbide (SiC), show robust Josephson coupling at subKelvin temperature, when the separations between the electrodes is below 400 nm. Remarkably, a hysteretic Critical State sets in when ramping an orthogonal magnetic field, with a sudden collapse of the Josephson critical current I c when turning the field on, and a revival of I c when inverting the sweep. Similar hysteresis can be found in granular superconducting films which may undergo the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition. Here, we give quantitative arguments to prove that this odd behavior of the magnetoconductance gives evidence for an incipient Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition with drift and pinning of fluctuating free vortices induced by the current bias.  相似文献

In this work, the 45S5 bioactive glass was synthesized through an aqueous sol-gel method. Characteristic functional groups were evidenced by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the thermal behaviour was investigated by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis, crystallization kinetics and phase evolution were followed by X-ray diffraction measurements. The sintering behaviour of the sol-gel derived 45S5 was then studied by dilatometry and the microstructural evolution was followed step-by-step, interrupting the thermal cycle at different temperatures. In vitro dissolution tests were performed in order to assess the degradation behaviour of sol-gel derived 45S5 samples thermally treated at different temperatures. A relevant influence of the calcination conditions (namely, dwelling time and temperature) of the as-prepared powder on the phase appearance and its sintering behaviour as well as on the porosity features, in terms of pore dimension and interconnectivity, of the fired materials was stated.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Depressed baroreflex sensitivity obtained by means of a phenylephrine test plays a prognostic role in patients with a previous myocardial infarction. Our purpose was to evaluate the correlation and agreement between the baroreflex sensitivity obtained with phenylephrine and that obtained by two noninvasive methods: the alpha-index and sequence analysis. METHODS AND RESULTS: The alpha-index was measured by means of the spectral analysis of RR and systolic blood pressure variabilities in both the high- and low-frequency bands; sequences were identified from simultaneously recorded time series in which the RR and systolic blood pressure concurrently increased or decreased. Noninvasive baroreflex sensitivity tests were performed during both spontaneous and controlled respiration. Fifty-two consecutive patients with recent myocardial infarction underwent the analyses. Although the correlations between phenylephrine and either of the noninvasive methods were always significant, those found during controlled respiration had the highest r values (r=.70). However, the limits of agreement calculated by means of the Bland and Altman method were wide for both noninvasive methods. CONCLUSIONS: The results obtained by means of noninvasive baroreflex sensitivity assessments should not be used in clinical practice as an alternative to those obtained by the phenylephrine method.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Pelvic pain can account for up to 40 percent of laparoscopies performed by gynecologists. This report compares the psychological profiles and efficacy of laparoscopic surgery at long-term follow-up in a series of laparoscopy-positive and laparoscopy-negative patients with chronic pelvic pain. METHOD: A retrospective chart review was performed on patients diagnosed with chronic pelvic pain combined with postoperative written questionnaires and self-rating scales. These questionnaires were used to assess long-term post laparoscopy follow-up of the physical and psychological status of women with positive findings at laparoscopy compared to those women with negative findings. RESULTS: There were no statistically significant demographic differences between respondents and nonrespondents. In the respondents, no statistically significant differences were noted even with long-term follow-up when comparing responses of the laparoscopy-positive and laparoscopy-negative groups on the above questionnaires. CONCLUSION: Though reporting modest improvement in pelvic pain since laparoscopy, both groups reported a high incidence of anxiety, depression, physical worries, and marital/sexual problems.  相似文献
