Health Canada and the Canadian-Italian Physicians Association recently spent $20,000 to send 4 Canadian cancer specialists to Italy to check out the "miracle" anticancer cocktail prepared by an Italian physician. Although three subtypes of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), follicular lymphoma (FL), mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and marginal zone lymphoma (MZL), are now well recognized as independent categories, their biological behavior has not been fully compared. One of the reasons for this may be that subclassification by histological examination alone is often difficult since they all have a common variant of a "nodular" growth pattern and occasionally show similar cytological morphology. Recently, we reviewed patients with FL, MCL and MZL, who were prospectively diagnosed, using multiparameter analyses with unfixed fresh biopsy materials. Of 407 NHL patients, 101 (24.8%) belonged to these three categories and 80 could be followed; FL (n=27), MCL (n=27) and MZL (n=26). Twenty eight cases with diffuse large B-cell (DL-B) lineage lymphoma were selected as control at random. The frequency of the MCL patients with performance status (PS) 2 to 4 (41%) was significantly higher than MZL patients (4%) [P< 0.001]. The 3 year survival rate with FL, MCL, MZL and DL-B was 71.5%, 57.4%, 93.3% and 53.1%, respectively. The survival rate for MZL was significantly better than both FL (p = 0.048) and MCL (p = 0.0085). Significant differences were also found in the overall survival rates among the four risk groups as defined by the International Index [I2](low, low-intermediate, high-intermediate and high; 97.4%, 79.6%, 39.4% and 18.2%, respectively). A multivariate analysis revealed that the International Index may be a significant predictor for short survival (p=0.0001) in the patients with FL, MCL or MZL. These results suggest that MZL shows an apparently better prognosis than FL and MCL and is found to be a prognostically independent category. In contrast, the clinical outcome in MCL is the worst among the three subtypes and was closer to that of DL-B. The International Index can be applied to a wide spectrum of NHL, including MCL, MZL and FL, to and can predict prognosis in these cases.  相似文献

The magnetic torque ofκ-(BEDT-TFF)2Cu(NCS)2 was measured as a function of field directionθ with respect to thea *-axis under constant magnetic fields,H, up to 8 kOe in the temperature range from 1.3 to 8 K. A sharp cusp, C1, in the irreversible region was found atθ c1 near theHbc-plane between 1.3 and 7 K. In addition, extra cusps, C2 and C3, were observed atθ c2 andθ c3, respectively, between 2.5 and 6 K. At each temperature, the perpendicular component ofH giving each cusp is kept constant as $H\cos \theta _{cn} = const \equiv H_{cp_n } (n = 1,2,3),$ i.e., cusps C1, C2, and C3 are ruled by the characteristic field perpendicular to thebc-planeH cp1,H cp2, andH cp3, respectively. These behaviors are almost the same as those we found in the oxide superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8. These results suggest that the cusps are intrinsic for irreversible vortex states of these layered superconductors.  相似文献

Generally, plastics and plastic films are low in moisture absorption and high in electric insulation. They are inherently vulnerable to static charge build‐up, which can result in a variety of problems. We have developed a functional packaging material to solve these static problems, by using a potassium salt of ethylene ionomer, which is a non‐bleed‐type antistatic agent. Good antistatic performance was shown by evaluating a variety of electric characteristics (e.g. the static decay time, ash test and saturated electrostatic charge and half‐life) and surface resistivity. In addition, antistatic performance was achieved on the mLLDPE (non‐treated) side in a multilayer structure. This means that the use of potassium ionomer on any layers in a multilayer structure provides antistatic performance, leading to the expectation of developing a wide variety and diversity of packaging materials. Complex spectra of Xe and Sn, and their feasibility for use in the lithographic extreme ultraviolet (EUV) source, are investigated. By combining calculations of atomic data using the HULLAC code and the Whiam collisional radiative model with a simple radiative transfer model, the EUV spectrum is shown to originate from a large number of fine structure transitions. Satellite lines of 4d-4f and 4d-5p transitions from near ten times ionized states are found to make a significant contribution to the emission from an optically thick plasma. The wavelengths and transition probabilities of emission lines, charge state distribution, and level population in the plasma, as well as radiation intensity from a laser-produced plasma source have been calculated. The effect of opacity is taken into account assuming a local thermodynamic equilibrium population in the plasma. The calculated result reproduces the observed spectra both for Xe and Sn, showing applicability of the present method to the spectroscopy of hot dense plasmas.  相似文献

Super-hydrophobic films with low electric resistance were prepared by coating the liquid containing both fluoro-acrylic resin and colloidal silica on an ITO-coated polymer film with the suitable repetition of a one-dimensional groove structure on the surface. The hydrophobicity was effectively enhanced by the roughness mixing effect. The formation of ITO layer on the surface of the base-film decreased the surface electric resistance and improved the durability of the super-hydrophobicity during outdoor exposure. The film prepared in current study satisfies the requirements of transparency, super-hydrophobicity, brightness enhancement property and long lifetime simultaneously.  相似文献

A cosmic dust detector for use onboard a satellite is currently being developed by using piezoelectric lead zirconate titanate (PZT). The characteristics of the PZT detector have been studied by bombarding it with hypervelocity iron (Fe) particles supplied by a Van de Graaff accelerator. One central electrode and four peripheral electrodes were placed on the front surface of the PZT detector to measure the impact positions of the incident Fe particles. It was demonstrated that the point of impact on the PZT detector could be identified by using information on the time at which the first peak of the output signal obtained from each electrode appeared.  相似文献

Nursing home caregivers (n=775; 604 women; mean age 33.6 years) were studied to examine how work schedules affect their sleep. The shift group (n=536) worked under a rotating two-shift system (n=365), a rotating three-shift system (n=66), or other types of shifts (n=78). The non-shift group included 222 caregivers. Participants completed a questionnaire about working conditions, sleep problems, health, lifestyle, and demographic factors. The two-shift caregivers reported the highest levels of difficulty initiating sleep (DIS, 37.6%), insomnia symptoms (43.0%), and poor quality of sleep (24.9%) among the groups. Adjusted odds ratios for these problems were significantly greater for the two-shift caregivers than for non-shift counterparts: DIS (odds ratio 2.86, 95% confidence interval 1.57-5.20), insomnia symptoms (2.33, 1.36-4.02), and poor sleep quality (2.15, 1.09-4.22). Our data suggest that working under a rotating two-shift system, which has a longer night shift, is associated with an elevated risk of sleep problems for nursing home caregivers.  相似文献

Abstract— Short‐range uniformity and bias‐temperature (BT) instability of ZnO TFTs with SiOx/SiNx stacked gate insulators which have different surface treatments have been investigated. The short‐range uniformity of ZnO TFTs was drastically improved by N2O plasma treatment of the gate insulator. The variation in the gate voltage where a drain current of 1‐nA flows (Vgs at an Ids of 1 nA) was dramatically reduced from ±1.73 V to ±0.07 V by N2O plasma treatment of the gate insulator. It was clarified that the variations in the subthreshold characteristics of the ZnO TFTs could be reduced by N2O plasma treatment of the gate insulator due to a decrease in the variation of trap densities in deep energy levels from 0.9–2.0 × 1017 to 1.2–1.3×1017 cm?3‐eV?1. From the BT stress tests, a positive shift of Vgs at an Ids of 1 nA could be reduced by N2O plasma treatment of the gate insulator due to a decrease in the charge traps in the gate insulator. When the gate‐bias stress increases, state creation occured in the ZnO TFTs in addition to the charge trapping in the gate insulator. However, N2O plasma treatment of the gate insulator has little effect on the suppression of the state creation in ZnO TFTs under BT stress. The surface treatment of the gate insulator strongly affects the short‐range uniformity and the BT instability of Vth in the ZnO TFTs.  相似文献
