The reaction between bis(diisopropyl) thiophosphoryl disulfide (DIPDIS) and silica has been investigated. The study reveals that DIPDIS can be used as a coupling agent for silica. The chemical bond between the silanol groups of silica and DIPDIS has been established through the isolation and characterization of isopropyl alcohol that is eliminated from the reaction. The chemical nature of the bond is also supported by the IR analysis of the reaction products of silica and DIPDIS obtained both in the presence and absence of rubber. From the exploratory studies it is indicated that DIPDIS can also react with NR even during mixing of ingredients. When used with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) or N-oxydiethylene-2-benzothiazole sulfenamide (OBTS) in the presence of silica, DIPDIS exhibits notable activation of cure and enhances the torque, modulus, tensile strength, and the scorch safety.  相似文献

Surfactants are frequently used in chemical enhanced oil recovery (EOR) as it reduces the interfacial tension (IFT) to an ultra‐low value and also alter the wettability of oil‐wet rock, which are important mechanisms for EOR. However, most of the commercial surfactants used in chemical EOR are very expensive. In view of that an attempt has been made to synthesis an anionic surfactant from non‐edible Jatropha oil for its application in EOR. Synthesized surfactant was characterized by FTIR, NMR, dynamic light scattering, thermogravimeter analyser, FESEM, and EDX analysis. Thermal degradability study of the surfactant shows no significant loss till the conventional reservoir temperature. The ability of the surfactant for its use in chemical EOR has been tested by measuring its physicochemical properties, viz., reduction of surface tension, IFT and wettability alteration. The surfactant solution shows a surface tension value of 31.6 mN/m at its critical micelle concentration (CMC). An ultra‐low IFT of 0.0917 mN/m is obtained at CMC of surfactant solution, which is further reduced to 0.00108 mN/m at optimum salinity. The synthesized surfactant alters the oil‐wet quartz surface to water‐wet which favors enhanced recovery of oil. Flooding experiments were conducted with surfactant slugs with different concentrations. Electrostatic attraction between α and β globin chains holds the subunits together in a tetrameric human hemoglobin molecule (α2β2). Compared to normal globin chains, the affinity of a mutant chain to its partner globin might be different in genetic variants of hemoglobin. This leads to an unequal abundance of normal and variant hemoglobin in heterozygous samples, even though the rates of synthesis of both the normal and variant chains are the same. The aforementioned affinities across various globin chains might be assessed by quantification of the different forms of the tetramers present in a variant hemoglobin sample. In the present study, by exploiting mass differences between globin chains, differently populated hemoglobin tetramers present in hemoglobin (Hb) Beckman, a β variant (βA135D), were structurally characterized. The relative populations of dissymmetric tetramers (α2β2, α2ββV, and α2βV2) indicated that both β and βV have different affinities towards the α globin chain. Conformational dynamics analyzed from hydrogen/deuterium exchange kinetics of the three peptide fragments of Hb Beckman in its oxy state displayed molecular insight into its functional abnormality. However, in comparison to normal hemoglobin (α2β2), the point mutation did not show any change in the collision cross‐sections of the functionally active conformers of the variant hemoglobin molecules (α2ββV and α2βV2).  相似文献

The use of conventional petroleum‐based plastics in many applications poses the risk of contamination, potentially causing infection when used in medical applications, and contamination when used in food packaging. Nontraditional materials such as protein are being examined for their potential use in the production of bioplastics for applications that require uncontaminated materials. The proteins of albumin, soy, and whey provide possible sources of raw material for bioplastic production, as they have already been utilized in the area of edible films and low‐stress applications. We conducted this study to investigate the thermal, viscoelastic, and antibacterial properties of the albumin, soy, and whey bioplastics with the use of three plasticizers—water, glycerol, and natural rubber latex (NRL). Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli were utilized as Gram (+) and Gram (?) species, respectively, for antimicrobial analysis. Albumin and whey bioplastics exhibited similar thermal and viscoelastic properties, whereas soy bioplastics had varied viscoelastic properties based on the plasticizer used. In terms of antibacterial activity, the albumin–glycerol and whey–glycerol were the best bioplastics, as no bacterial growth was observed on the plastics after 24 h of inoculation. In terms of the future impact of this research, the aim will be to scale up production of the bioplastics for use in food packaging as well as biomedical applications. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of porous calcium phosphates viz., hydroxyapatite (HAp) and a bi-phasic calcium phosphate (BCP) with predominately β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) prepared by aqueous solution combustion method impregnated with cefuroxime axetil for the treatment of experimental osteomyelitis and compared with parenteral treatment. In vitro release of the drug was tested for its sustained elution characteristics for 21 days in PBS (pH 7.2) and measured by HPLC. In the in vivo study, bone infection was induced in tibia of rabbits by inoculation of 1 ml (3 × 106) CFU Staphylococcus aureus. On the 21st day, after the development of osteomyelitis, six animals were treated by filling the cavity with cefuroxime-impregnated HAp blocks (Group II), six animals with the same drug-impregnated β-TCP (Group III) and in six others, only cefuroxime (15 mg/kg twice daily) was injected parenterally 6 weeks (Group IV). Group I with six animals was kept untreated. Histologically, the signs of infection were found to subside by 3 and 6 weeks. Radiological evaluation with cefuroxime-impregnated HAp and β-TCP pointed out the disappearance of sequestrum and existence of newly formed bony specules. Concentration of cefuroxime in bone and serum as estimated by HPLC showed highest value on day 21 itself which reduced marginally by day 42 in both the groups and these values were higher than minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against S. aureus. Our findings suggest that bi-phasic calcium phosphates with predominately β-TCP content is a very efficient carrier material for antibiotic compounds even for refractory infections by S. aureus.  相似文献

A working model for engineering analysis of pressure filtration is presented. Based on the filtration characteristics of fine and colloidal suspensions, the process was divided into two stages. A time‐invariant spatially uniform volume fraction of solids approximation is invoked in the growing filter cake stage (stage 1). A time‐dependent spatially uniform volume fraction of solids assumption is made in the cake consolidation stage (stage 2). The two models, named collectively as Mean Phi (M‐P) model, have a common physical basis, seamless continuity between the stages and internal consistency. The M‐P model has only three parameters: terminal or equilibrium volume fraction of solids in the filter cake that is related to its compressive yield stress, critical volume fraction of solids, which joins stage 1 and stage 2, and a permeability factor, which is common to stages 1 and 2. The model is validated with a large number of colloidal suspensions filtered under highly diverse physical‐chemical process conditions. A Pareto profile is identified that relates the timescale of filtration and the extent of dewatering achieved, the two most important performance indices of the process.  相似文献

Damage or overbreak not only endangers safety of structure but also increases cost of construction and time of completion. Drilling and blasting being cost-effective for excavation of any underground structure should strictly adhere into specialized controlled blasting pattern to minimize the unacceptable impact on peripheral in situ rock mass. The paper reveals that in addition to geo-technical properties of rock mass, in situ stress condition plays an important role in enhancing the magnitude of overbreak. Implementation of same blast pattern throughout the length of tunnel results into different magnitudes of overbreak and the magnitude increases in highly stressed zone. Furthermore, implementation of same controlled perimeter blast pattern along the tunnel cross-section may result into different magnitudes of overbreak. Different magnitude of overbreak along the tunnel cross-section i.e., in left and right wall and crown has been observed even with implementation of same controlled blast pattern throughout the tunnel cross-section. Feasibility and compatibility of drilling equipment with respect to tunnel cross-section also adds to the quality and magnitude of overbreak. Undersize drilling equipment leads to angular drilling on either walls or crown and enhances the magnitude of overbreak. The paper with the help of statistical and graphical analysis revealed that blast pattern for peripheral rock mass should consider geo-technical properties and in situ stress condition of rock mass to minimize the magnitude of overbreak. The authors also emphasized that to contain magnitude of overbreak within allowable limit; the implemented blast pattern should be different for different sections viz., right wall, left wall and crown of tunnel. Furthermore, in poor rock mass condition or in highly stressed zone, drivage of tunnel should be carried out in small sections and in different phases until the excavation reaches the required excavation profile in that area. Excavation in small sections and in different phases would lead to proper excavated profile and minimize overbreak and damage of peripheral rock mass.  相似文献

A light-activated NO donor, [Mn(PaPy3)(NO)]ClO4 (1a), has been incorporated into HEMA-based polymer hydrogel and the nitrosyl-polymer conjugate materials 1ax · HG and 1ax · HGMB have been characterized. The NO releasing properties and antibacterial capabilities of these materials in conjunction with growth attenuators such as hydrogen peroxide and methylene blue (MB) are reported. Since the nitrosyl releases NO only upon exposure to light, materials like 1ax · HGMB could be used as wound dressings that deliver NO under controlled conditions.  相似文献

High molecular weight polyacrylamides were synthesized and successfully modified to contain up to 8·3% hydroxamate functional groups. The selective flocculation tests carried out on 1:1 iron oxide/kaolin mixtures using parent polyacrylamide, polyacrylic acid and the modified polyacrylamide, confirm the possibility of enhancing selectivity through introduction of iron chelating functional groups in commercially available polymers. Starting with a feed grade of 35% iron, 92% recovery with acceptable grade of 60% iron has been achieved using the modified polyacrylamide. NCL communication No. 4415  相似文献

C-reactive proteins (CRP) have been affinity purified to electrophoretic homogeneity from the sera of major carp, Catla catla before and after exposure to environmental pollutants. Exposure to these pollutants elevate the levels of circulating CRPs to 2.8-3.5 times the normal values. Kinetic studies of metal intoxication indicate that a unique molecular variant of CRP is present in the serum at the peak level of acute phase induction, and this variant coexists with normal CRPs. Carbohydrate analysis and lectin binding reveals that these CRPs are glycoproteins differing significantly in total carbohydrate contents. Their electrophoretic mobilities in native gel are different but become identical on desialylation and deglycosylation implying that the molecular variants vary in the glycan parts. All these forms of CRP contain two nonidentical subunits of Mr 22 and 29 kDa. Examination of their immunological crossreactivity demonstrate their similarity in overall molecular topology but their differences in the quantitative extent of binding are reflected.  相似文献
