Major technical issues are discussed related to the cost of transmission transactions provided by a vertically integrated electric utility company. The authors identify the components of the cost of a transmission transaction and present methodologies for evaluating them using simple examples. The major cost components of a transmission transaction are: operating cost; opportunity cost; reinforcement cost; and existing system cost. Perchlorate, an iodide uptake inhibitor, is increasingly being detected in new places and new matrices. Perchlorate contamination has been attributed largelyto the manufacture and use of ammonium perchlorate (the oxidizer in solid fuel rockets) and/or the earlier use of Chilean nitrate as fertilizer (approximately 0.1% perchlorate). However, there are regions such as the southern high plains (Texas Panhandle) where there is no clear historical or current evidence of the extensive presence of rocket fuel or Chilean fertilizer sources. The occurrence of easily measurable concentrations of perchlorate in such places is difficult to understand. In the southern high plains groundwater, perchlorate is better correlated with iodate, known to be of atmospheric origin, compared to any other species. We show that perchlorate is readily formed by a variety of simulated atmospheric processes. For example, it is formed from chloride aerosol by electrical discharge and by exposing aqueous chloride to high concentrations of ozone. We report that perchlorate is present in many rain and snow samples. This strongly suggests that some perchlorate is formed in the atmosphere and a natural perchlorate background of atmospheric origin should exist.  相似文献

The pterin component of the molybdenum cofactor, termed molybdopterin, is synthesized in Escherichia coli by enzymes encoded at the chl loci. A late step in the biosynthetic pathway, the conversion of a molybdopterin intermediate, precursor Z, to molybdopterin, requires the activity of a two-subunit protein, the converting factor. Precursor Z has many of the features of molybdopterin but lacks the dithiolene function essential for molybdenum ligation. Conversion of precursor Z to molybdopterin is accomplished by transfer of sulfur to produce the dithiolene. The present study describes an in vitro system for molybdopterin biosynthesis comprised of purified precursor Z and purified converting factor. It is established that these components are sufficient to yield molybdopterin, identified by conversion to its characteristic products, Form A, Form B, and dicarboxamidomethylmolybdopterin. Under conditions of precursor excess, the formation of molybdopterin was stoichiometric with converting factor, as would be expected in the absence of a sulfur-regenerating system. The labile product of the reaction, molybdopterin, remained associated with the converting factor large subunit. These results establish that the source of sulfur for molybdopterin biosynthesis is the converting factor and suggest that in vivo a novel sulfur cycle must function to resupply sulfur to the converting factor.  相似文献

This paper presents a study on energy performance of Singapore's hotel buildings. Energy consumption data and other pertinent information were collected from 29 quality hotels through a national survey. Building features and operational characteristics contributing to the variations in hotel energy performance were discussed. The annual average total energy use intensity (EUI) in these hotels is 427 kWh/m2. Electricity and gas are used in all sampled hotels, and some hotels also use diesel to power standby generator or hot water boiler. We also investigated relationships between electricity consumption and number of occupied rooms in individual hotels; the weak correlations found indicate it is necessary to improve energy management when occupancy rate is low. Besides, Pearson correlations between hotel energy use intensity and possible explanatory indicators revealed that three-star hotels differ from high class establishments in energy use. Worker density and years after the last major energy retrofit were also found to be highly correlated to hotel building energy use intensity. Also discussed in this paper is the effect of weather conditions on electricity consumption of the hotels.  相似文献

This paper reports on the synthesis of the nanoenergetic composites containing CuO nanorods and nanowires, and Al‐nanoparticles. Nanorods and nanowires were synthesized using poly(ethylene glycol) templating method and combined with Al‐nanoparticles using ultrasonic mixing and self‐assembly methods. Poly(4‐vinylpyridine) was used for the self‐assembly of Al‐nanoparticles around the nanorods. At the optimized values of equivalence ratio, sonication time, and Al‐particle size, the combustion wave speed of 1650 m s−1 was obtained for the nanorods‐based energetics. For the composite of nanowires and Al‐nanoparticles the speed was increased to 1900 m s−1. The maximum combustion wave speed of 2400 m s−1 was achieved for the self‐assembled composite, which is the highest known so far among the nanoenergetic materials. It is possible that in the self‐assembled composites, the interfacial contact between the oxidizer and fuel is higher and resistance to overall diffusional process is lower, thus enhancing the performance.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to study the effect of N+ ion implantation on corrosion and phase formation on the implanted surfaces of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-7Nb alloys. Nitrogen ion was implanted on Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-7Nb alloys at an energy of 70 and 100 keV, respectively using a 150 keV accelerator at different doses ranging from 5 × 1015 to 2.5 × 1017 ions/cm2. Electrochemical studies have been carried out in Ringer’s solution in order to determine the optimum dose that can give good corrosion resistance in a simulated body fluid condition. The implanted surfaces of such modified doses were electrochemically passivated at 1.0 V for an hour. Secondary ion mass spectroscopy was used to study and characterize titanium oxide and titanium nitride layers produced on implanted surface and to correlate them with the corrosion resistance. The nature of the passive film of the implanted-passivated specimen was compared with the unimplanted-passivated as well as as-implanted specimens.  相似文献

Uniform and adherent copolymer coating of poly(aniline‐co‐isoprene) was successfully formed on low‐carbon‐steel electrodes by potentiostatic electropolymerization. Electropolymerization was performed by using aqueous p‐toluene sulfonic acid solution as electrolyte. Applied potential and feed ratios of monomers (aniline and isoprene) were systematically varied and the reactions were done under aqueous conditions. The copolymer coatings were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and the formation of copolymer was confirmed by the presence of aliphatic secondary amine, aromatic secondary amine, and aliphatic CH stretch groups. The electronic structure of the copolymers was further investigated by using UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy.
