Pure crystalline BaZrO3 powders can be produced by precipitation in highly basic aqueous solution. The influence of several synthesis parameters is studied. At high OH? concentration ([NaOH] = 20 mol/l), it is possible to obtain the well-crystallized stoichiometric perovskite phase at relatively low temperature (~80 °C), after a short reaction time (15 min) and without requiring any precaution to avoid the presence of CO2. This synthesis method yields spherical particles, whose size can be controlled by changing the concentration of the Ba + Zr solution. No calcination treatment is necessary since the precipitate is crystalline. Suitable choice of the synthesis parameters ([NaOH] = 20 mol/l, [Ba + Zr] = 1 mol/l, reaction time = 15 min) yields a sub-micron precipitate with excellent densification behaviour. Corrosion tests in BaO–CuO melt show that ~98% dense BaZrO3 obtained by sintering at 1650 °C for 13 h could be used for crucibles in the synthesis of YBa2Cu3O7 superconducting single crystals. 相似文献

Macromers with functional groups that allow for chemical derivatization, polymerization reactions or impart specific physico-chemical properties are functional building blocks for polymeric systems used in different biomedical applications. With this motivation, a series of oligomeric macromers was synthesized by free radical polymerization of maleic anhydride (MA) with N-isopropylacrylamide (NiPAAm) and pentaerythritol diacrylate monostearate (PEDAS). This chemical design provides anhydride groups for effective reactivity of the macromers with amines and other nucleophiles, copolymerized NiPAAm for temperature responsiveness and lipophilic stearate domains for increased hydrogel stability. Macromers were synthesized with different MA co-monomer feeds and oligomeric molecules (Mn below 5000 Da) were obtained with MA contents between 7% and 27% as determined by titration. The fraction of chemically intact anhydrides was calculated to range from 75% to 80%. The ability of the macromers to cross-link di- or oligovalent amines as a function of MA content was investigated rheologically. It was also demonstrated that monovalent amines, e.g. aminofluorescein, could be grafted to the macromer chain utilizing only a fraction of the anhydride functionalities. The derivatized macromers could still participate in cross-linking reactions due to the remaining anhydrides. Temperature sensitivity was shown for aqueous solutions of macromers with fully dissociated anhydride groups. The solutions were additionally responsive to changes in calcium ion concentration and pH. Extracts from macromer cross-linked polyether hydrogels showed no toxicity on L929 fibroblasts.The macromers have perspective as biocompatible cross-linkers for hydrogel fabrication from various biomacromolecules with the opportunity to decorate the gels with monoamine molecules that alter the biological or physico-chemical properties. 相似文献

Infection with Helicobacter pylori is associated with the development of gastric cancer. To study whether the infection with H. pylori strains expressing the vacuolating cytotoxin (VacA) and/or the cytotoxin-associated protein (CagA) is associated with an increased risk of developing gastric adenocarcinoma, sera of 90 patients with gastric cancer and 90 matched controls with cardiovascular diseases were investigated for the presence of antibodies to VacA and CagA by immunoblot. Although no significant difference in the overall H. pylori seropositivity was found between cancer patients and controls, antibodies against VacA or CagA were significantly more frequent in cancer patients than in control subjects. Seventy-five (97.4%) of 77 H. pylori-positive patients in the cancer group, but only 60 (84.5%) of 71 H pylori-positive control patients had antibodies against either VacA or CagA (chi 2 = 6.63; relative risk, 2.00; 95% confidence interval, 1.18-3.39; P = 0.01). The presence of antibodies against VacA or CagA alone was also associated with an increased cancer risk (92.2% vs 80.3%; chi 2 = 5.30; relative risk, 1.74; 95% confidence interval, 1.08-2.78; P = 0.021, for VacA; and 87.0% vs 74.6%; chi 2 = 4.90; relative risk, 1.61; 95% confidence interval, 1.06-2.45; P = 0.037, for CagA). The relative risk for gastric cancer was mainly elevated in patients under 65 years, but not in patients at or over 65 years. By exposing flat and curved carbon surfaces to coronene, a variety of van der Waals hybrid heterostructures are prepared, including coronene encapsulated in carbon nanotubes, and coronene and dicoronylene adsorbed on nanotubes or graphite via π–π interactions. The structure of the final product is determined by the temperature of the experiment and the curvature of the carbon surface. While at temperatures below and close to the sublimation point of coronene, nanotubes with suitable diameters are filled with single coronene molecules, at higher temperatures additional dimerization and oligomerization of coronene occurs on the surface of carbon nanotubes. The fact that dicoronylene and possible higher oligomers are formed at lower temperatures than expected for vapor‐phase polymerization indicates the active role of the carbon surface used primarily as template. Removal of adsorbed species from the nanotube surface is of utmost importance for reliable characterization of encapsulated molecules: it is demonstrated that the green fluorescence attributed previously to encapsulated coronene is instead caused by dicoronylene adsorbed on the surface which can be solubilized and removed using surfactants. After removing most of the adsorbed layer, a combination of Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy was employed to follow the transformation dynamics of coronene molecules inside nanotubes. 相似文献

The Council of the European Union has proposed a revision on the EU regulation on novel foods and novel food ingredients concerning safety assessment of traditional foods from non-EU countries and their introduction onto the EU market. The proposal stipulates that such foods may be placed on the EU market if their history of safe use in the country of origin is appropriately documented. The present statement of the SKLM gives an overview on current discussions on practical implementation of the "history of safe use" concept as well as examples of its application. The SKLM, in principle, agrees with these concepts, underscores, however, in connection with convincing evidence for a "history of safe use" the need for a range of additional information to achieve a comprehensive risk assessment. In the opinion of the SKLM such information must comprise compositional data as well as experience on adverse effects. A list of questions considered essential is presented.
